My dad started playing chess with me when I was 5. I NEVER beat him till I was at least 15 or 16. He never laid it easy on me. Now it's been a good 8 years since he's beat me. By him continually beating me, sometimes in 7 or 8 moves made me learn the strategy.
This dad needs to grow the fuck up. His kid won't be pitched to underhand the rest of his life. GROW THE FUCK UP. You strike out, you go to the cages. 8/11/2006 8:42:40 PM |

This story isn't about pitching to the worst hitter....its about NOT pitching to the best hitter, a HUGE difference! Bottom ninth, game on the line, you better believe i'm walking their ace hitter. My kids worked just as hard to get to the championship game and I'm gonna do everything they can to win it for them. Then look at it this way: you walk the slugger and pitch to weaker. What happens? He gets a base hit, knocks in a run or two and becomes the hero. He becomes famous like the kid who was the manager the hit 6 three's in 5 minutes or something. The Dad should want his kid to have those opportunities. 8/11/2006 9:18:07 PM |

Man, I guess if your kid is bad at being a catcher, the best thing you should do is make him the catcher.
And flip out the bench, blame the coach, too.

What if the coach of the other team put the kid with cancer behind the slugger on the other team thinking the coach of the other team would never walk the slugger to get to the kid with cancer...i mean if you think about it, it makes no sense to have the worst hitter behind your best hitter. 8/11/2006 9:41:45 PM |

now i'm no little league expert, but i believe that the teams in the little league world series being broadcast on espn play in a more competitive league than the one in question. just a hunch, could be wrong.8/12/2006 12:19:52 AM |

I played baseball from Tball on up through high school. I remember 2 or 3 instances of intentionally walking batters when I was in like 9-10 league. I piched some and I remember walking the best hitter on another team to get to the next guy. This dude was right on the verge of being too old for the league and thats a big difference at that age. I don't remember anyone getting all up in the air about it happening either.
Also, since when have youth sports ever been completly fair. The way it went where I grew up was that if a dad wanted their kid to be on the good team he would sign up as an assistent coach. So the good team would end up with like 5 coaches. 8/12/2006 11:52:40 AM |

see...this isnt just some other little league game either, this is the little league world series. Its a much bigger deal than any other game and if this kid is playing on a team this competitive he needs to learn that there is a strategy to the game and just deal with it like every other kid 8/12/2006 6:16:04 PM |

^^Did you read the damn article?
Its an instructional league.
Regardless the kid shouldn't be out there if he can't take the heat. 8/12/2006 6:31:24 PM |
