haha, oh shit. My HS blew themselves in the foot in today's season opener. the score was 10-6 (them) with 30 seconds left in the game and we drive 70 yards to the 6 yard line and our QB ran 10 yds back, then threw a nice fat INT. Typical Southern Nash Firebird doozyball......oops.

There is a pretty good H.S. game on ESPN right now.

#2 Byrnes High School out of South Carolina and #5 Glades Central out of Florida.

Tonight's biggest games locally (assuming they don't get cancelled due to soggy fields):

Raleigh Millbrook (1-1) at East Wake (1-0) -- Probably the best bet tonight
Raleigh Enloe (1-0) at Garner (2-0) -- Enloe looks improved, but this one still may not be close
Siler City Jordan-Matthews at Pittsboro Northwood -- A big rivalry of small schools in Chatham Co.
Wake Forest-Rolesville (0-2) at Southern Durham (2-0) -- WF-R isn't bad, but their schedule is brutal

My old school's rival (Lincolnton) was given a win last week due to South Point (Koren Robinson's old school) playing an ineligible player. So now, they are 2-0, instead of 1-1. We (East Lincoln) play Newton Conover tonight.

Big games this week across the state (rankings from the statewide all-classifications Fantastic 50):
(12) Crest (2-0) at (11) Shelby (2-0) -- One of the state's biggest rivalries
(21) Rocky Mount (3-0) at (2) Greenville Rose (2-0) -- Rose is tough anytime, anywhere
(17) Roberson (3-0) at (9) A.C. Reynolds (3-0) -- Another big battle in Asheville
(10) Richmond County (3-0) at Purnell Swett (3-0) -- Swett may have their best team in years
(3) E. Randolph (3-0) at Durham Hillside (3-0) -- Are the Hillside Hornets for real this year?
(1) Charlotte Independence has an open date, so their winning streak will remain at 95 games

In the Raleigh area:
Cary (2-1) at SE Raleigh (2-1) -- Looks like an even game, on paper
Wake Forest-Rolesville (1-2) at Fuquay-Varina (2-1) -- Could be a tough defensive battle
(15) Garner (3-0) at Durham Riverside (1-1) -- Trojans are the area's best team
Raleigh Millbrook (1-2) at Northern Durham (2-1) -- How the mighty have fallen!

Southern Nash used to be the "given win" for Northern Nash when I was in hs. Team has gone to crap after we were in the state playoffs my senior year (2002) and I haven't been back since. Few people willingly return to Rocky Mount....

Athens may be better, but the jury is still out because they haven't played anyone yet. They may well run it to 5-0 (against five opponents who will all end the year with losing records) but they may find things tougher in the balanced Tri-Seven 4A.

It's hard to believe (even as bad as they are) that Pinecrest is considering forfeiting the rest of their varsity games and just playing JV football for the rest of the year.

If they do that, the folks at the other schools in the football-crazy Mid-Southeastern Conference will be really ticked off. Richmond County can make $30K-40K off ticket sales for a home football game, and Scotland County isn't far behind. Not having a home game will be a real financial hit on some of those other schools. There are rumors that the other MSEC schools may refuse to play Pinecrest in other sports; that seems ridiculous, but I can understand why they would be upset.

yea, I was surpised when I saw that Southern actually beat Northern the last 3 years but then I looked at Nash Central and saw what I used to see at Northern Nash. Northern got screwed by the new high school.

Oh and....Southern snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last night at Beddingfield. Same old shit, Different year...

When there are 350+ teams, one loss (especially to a mediocre team) early in the year really hurts. With Garner ar #51 this week, a win tonight would almost certainly put them back in.

Hate to break it to you, darling, but New Bern will have a thing or two to say about that. Don't be so smug...even though I know it's hard for you Rose people not to be. The Bears barely lost to a team that crushed us last year under a new coach's first game. Yes, you may do well in the play-offs, but I would like to see how you guys would fare against Independence. Go BEARS...3 out of the last 4 season as runners-up (darn you, Indy!).

Also...go JAGS It's great to be at a high school with so much school spirit now!

^^I remember that too, but this isn't the same Fuquay team. I was at the game and Fuquay really stepped it up. They were physical on both sides of the ball and their QB is a gamer. He would roll out and throw across his body to the open man on numerous occasions.
