All I know it this $25 tool from Advance Auto would have already come in if you would have ordered it 2 weeks ago when this thread was started, Speedsta wouldn't have looked like an ar$e, you'd have your new balancer on and life would be grand. Instead we're still talking about a pain in the ass crank bolt.

Yeah, next time I have an issue like this I'm just going to order the right tool right off the bat. When I started this, I knew I'd only have 3 or 4 days to work on it. I was also dead broke, didn't know loans would be coming in a week later, and needed to sell the thing to pay a couple bills. Hindsight's great, and working on cars sucks when you don't know what you're doing yet.
Oh, and I'm still worried that the tool won't fit without disconnecting the left upper engine mount and lowering the engine an inch or two. That's something I still don't want to deal with, at least not without help from someone who's done it in a parking lot before.

There is enough threads on the engine mount so all you have to do is loosen it to lower the engine enough. You will need a deep socket to get one of them. And with that tool you may not have to lower it at all to get it to fit in. Although if you did the timing belt you'd have to remove that engine mount. Just make sure if you loosen it to lower it that you don't REMOVE it without something supporting the engine.

Only for service reasons. Hell no, you don't leave it off for good.
I'm just saying that you can drop the engine off that mount totally when doing the aforementioned task. You can even get by with no support from the topside or from the bottom, but it really is best to support with a jack. 9/9/2006 3:21:37 AM |
