Did one of the Vick boys transfer here?

Littleton is in my soc class and has a cast on his hand. Could be why he isn't going to be starting.

Im not doubting that he will do fine at LG, but their are not many teams that place a premium on interior lineman when it comes to the draft. Centers tend to go much higher than any LG/RG unless the Eagles have a pick.

I'm surprised that Reggie Davis is starting and Rumph is not.

Rumph isnt that great of a LB. His skills from safety arnt translating that well into SAM. Martin came off his knee surgerys and lost weight from his DE position. I dont know why Rumph is having problems covering the slot/TE since he should be used to the calls and assignments from playing some safety.

OK I see that Evans is listed as 2nd string, but is that legit?

If Stone gets injured in a close game, is Amato gonna throw Evans in there? Or will Burke get the nod? Everything I've heard is that Burke is looking very good so far.

NO. Guards are much more valued. The top salary for a center last year - 3.25M. Four guards made more than that last year, up to 4.5 for Larry Allen.

As for Harris & the positional change...
NFL teams love for backups to be versatile, especially on the Oline, where they only have 3 backup spots for all 5 starters. It's pretty much a requirement for any late pick OLinemen to play 2 positions. Most teams don't carry a backup true center anyway, unless he's a great long snapper. They prefer a guard, who can play center. Harris fits this criteria, so his NFL stock is fine.

Evans will be the backup, because Burke is obviously still new to the system. Evans is no where as gifted as Burke or Stone and he is just holding Justins spot till he learns the offense. If Justin could have graduated in December and bypassed that art class or whatever it was, it might be a different story. Martin is fine at SAM. He wont be blowing anyone away with his play, but we have bigger concerns up front than the LB's. Im not trying to argue with you at all twolfpack3, but do you honestly think that a LG/RG is more important than the Center who calls the protections and assignments? I do agree though that every team does value versatile lineman since only 8-9 roster spots are usually taken for the 53 man roster. My point was that Leroy has played guard and then moved to Center, and Im not understanding why you would move your most consistent lineman.

Who cares if the Center calls the protection? The guard is the main one who has to stop the defensive tackle. The Center is more of a help blocker, unless there is a blitz up the middle, then the center will take the linebacker. Now which is more important? blocking a 250 lb. linebacker or a 330 lb. DT?

If you look at a typical positional value chart, as such you would use in a draft, Center is ~.85, while Guard is ~.92-.95, which is why guards make ~ 10% more. For comparision, an DE & OT is ~1.05-1.10, while QB is ~1.15-1.20

Nobody else notice that Ernest Jones is no where on the depth chart?

It's important to remember that Chuck has been known to use these post-camp depth charts as a motivational tactic. Much can change in the next 8 days.

I think the move of Harris over to guard and putting Lathan in at center is a good move. Harris can definately handle guard and Lathan, who's been in plenty of my science classes, seems to be a reasonably large and intelligent guy.

^^I thought I'd see Kalani Heppe starting. He was higher recruited and has more experience than Lathan.

Maybe it has more to do with Harris than Lathan.

^Hell Evans threw for like 4800 yards his senior year. And he is on scholarship because he has some ability. How bad can he be?

Evans isnt bad at all. But Burke and Stone are just far more talented than Evans is. Not a knock on Daniel at all. Im actually decent friends with him and wish him the best, but physically he is behind the other two.

^Yea I know. But Stone dosnt have to be great for us to win a bunch of games. Everyone knows that we will have a split backfield with Tony and Andre running. Once teams put 8 in the box to stop the run, (De)Marcus just needs to hit Dunlap,Blackmon or Hill, or anybody on a quick slant to move the chains. I know some of you think that may be asking a lot, but if we can win the battle on the Oline consistantly, we have a chance to hold our own. When we are in longer situations is where I worry INTs will happen.
