I think I'm going to be too high falootin' for Olive Garden from now on.

I'll sit hella upright, wipe my mouth with a napkin, and start drinking unsweetened tea while I'm at it.

Please don't stain my doilies if I invite you over for tea.

Chili's fucked me over one time when the To-Go chick hung up the phone on me, then I got there 20 min after I called and my food still wasn't ready, so I waited another 15 minutes, they bring out my "food" and it wasn't even what i ordered. They didn't offer me a discount or anything, so I wrote a Nasty Letter to corporate and by some magical surprise, I got a $30 gift card in the mail, along with a letter from the manager later in the week stating that my situation should not have been delt with "in that manor".

i'm not talking about for a place to go on a date or special occasion. im talking about a normal night that you don't feel like cooking. i go to these type of places 3-4 days a week and the ruths chris type places once a week. sure some place in the middle of cary might be better, but are they at a convient location for everyone. no. do they have a good all you can eat salad and breadsticks? i doubt it. the best thing about og is the salad and bread. they also have a large selection of unique wines.

it all depends on what you call average. imo the average restaurant is like an applebees ruby tuesday tgi fridays bar and grill type places. below average would be golden coral and expensive fast food

of course applebees isnt on the level of ruths chris carvers creek peddler angus barn kanki etc etc etc. those are top of teh line restaurants.

518 uses frozen sauces too. most places do. just cause an OG server told you that OG uses frozen sauces doesnt mean that the place sucks. i mean dont get me wrong, im not an og fan... but to dislike it cause of the sauce being frozen.

baaaaaa

find a real reason.

So a chain resturant isn't ok unless it charges $50 for a meal? Ruth's Chris is special occasion place at best for most (graduation, got a big raise, win the lottery, etc).

OH an speaking of bad deals at restaurants. My senior prom night, we had a group of 8. We went to this little Italian place in Gboro called Cafe Pasta. Really nice place. We had reservations for 7. More than half of us were on 'prom court' (still no clue wtf that is) so we had to be there by 9:30. At 8:30, they brought about half of the tables order. At 9:15, the other half got their's. I boxed that shit up, brought it home and let my dogs eat it. The manager made us pay for the meals that came at 8:30. We all paid b/c we were in a hurry. Next day, I wrote a letter to the owner. 2 days later I had $60 in gc. I didn't use it but it made a great Christmas present to my parents

I personally like Olive Garden....yeah, its very commercialized, very Americanized.......so what. Its still good, and it has good variety. Plus the never-ending soup, salad, and breadsticks IS da shit.

Yeah, Carraba's and Romano's Macaroni Grill are better food. But both, to me, feel cramped. You can easily hear your neighbor's conversation. Not at OG.

Btw, you SHOULD be able to get refills w/ sausages and different pastas/sauces. Technically, the $2 is really supposed to be for one bowl's worth of sausage, or atleast it used to be that way. But a quick bitch to the manager will fix that. Its a common complaint, and they commonly take care of it by refilling w/ sausages. Same w/ meatballs.

^that is incorrect. I went to olive garden tonight (yes, i'm a hypocritter) and got the never ending pasta deal and they refilled my sausage as much as i wanted.

It's fucking food yo. Eat it!

There is a Cinellis on Six Forks at the "Celebration" shopping center too. It is very good. I was hesitant about going to an italian place that is in a shopping center, but the atmosphere is actually very nice inside and the food is good.

we eat dinner out 3-4 times a week because my parents are too tired/sick to cook when they get home from work. we have a small binder with a bunch of restaurant to-go menus in it.

I can't stand people who are "above" lower-end chain restaurants.

That being said,

doesn't surprise me at all.

Because the Cheesecake Factory is so much better than Chili's...

i wasnt a fan of 518 either.

the reason i dont like OG is that its overpriced and just doesnt taste like a quality product.

thats all.

i do admit to being a rather snobish diner however.

It definitely gets old, but if chain food was that bad they wouldn't be so successful. They have a formula, carry it out, and people accept it because it's usually reliable and it takes away the concern over not knowing what to expect.

but sticking to the normal, not being adventerous is boring.

not knowing what soemthing will taste like and how pleasing it will be is one of the pleasures of dining out.

your food is your fuel sure, but goddamnit, im going to enjoy it.

^^ No disagreeing with you there. It just depends what mood I'm in... if I just want a meal, I don't mind a reliable chain. If I want something more adventureous, I'm not going to be in a place like Olive Garden.

^^^ The only thing I implied was that you would probably pay more to eat a higher-end place because you seem to think you are better than most and would not eat amongst proles like myself, independent of the quality of food.

^^ I don't care who else is where I eat, but you can get quality food for the same price at many other places. I'm above eating at Olive Garden because it's shitty food, the "trailer trash" thing was a facetious aside.

If my standard is not paying $30 for a steak that is worth maybe $15 at the most, than yes, you have "higher" standards than me.

This would be referring to Ruth's Chris NY Strip.
