When exactly is he going to turn it around?

When do we play another IAA team for him to greatly underachieve against?

stone may be able to play quaterback while brown and our defense win some games, but he is by no means a good quaterback.

i'd rather see justin burke get reps to be honest. maybe i'll just have to wait until next year when he is competing with harrison beck to take over when stone gets jay davis'd.

oh, and we don't have an o-line.

^^exactly. stone doesn't win games. stone lets andre and the defense win games, just like last year.

or did you not notice that andre brown cemented the starting job at the same time that Marcus came in last year.

^dude, how could it hurt to see what burke could do.

OH NOES WE MIGHT MISS MARCUS'S IGNORING OF WIDE OPEN RECEIVERS AND AWFUL PASSES

Yes, if he turns it around, I will jump right on the bandwagon. I don't hate the guy, or have anything against him personally. I would imagine the same goes for most of the other people on these boards. I hope he can emerge as a legitimate starting quarterback, and will be absolutely thrilled if he does, but I have my doubts. He is just too tentative to throw the ball downfield, and downright refuses to do so if we have the lead. Games like tonight's exist so that things can be fine-tuned, such as the passing game. Stone isn't going to throw the ball downfield it seems until a situation where it is absolutely necessary; I hardly think the best place to test out the vertical passing game for the first time is the second half against BC or FSU. Not to mention the fact that our outstanding backfield combo of Brown and Baker won't mean much when defenses are stacking the box every play.

I would be happy as a hobbit in a hole if marcus started to not suck so badly, but it is not looking good. he had all summer to improve and if this game was a faithful indication of what is to come then he still looks like a retard trying to hump a doorknob

7 for 13 for 36 yds.

36 is a little concerning, sure, but he only threw it 13 times and never really went for the long ball....give it some time people, that's all i'm saying.

that's part of the problem. sometimes it honestly seems like he is afraid to go deep

i mean this was the appalachian state university secondary. we had open receivers. but marcus never went for them. instead he took the safe route and dumped it to a running back or tight end.

if there is a receiver 3 steps ahead of a saftey, I don't care what the score is, you hit that receiver.

Well, that's the problem as far as I'm concerned. He never really even tried to go vertical. Maybe he actually has worked on his accuracy and can get the medium to long passes in there now, but we wouldn't know it. Tonight there were multiple occurances where he checked down from wide open receivers to dump it off into the flats.

This was not Stone's day, but it's not like everyone else played great.. The OLine, Linebackers, & Punt fielding unit all struggled & we were sloppy with the football.

Defense played great, Deraney was amazing, offense sucked....seriously if andre brown wasnt so good we would have lost this game...and while i do say stone isnt the best, i also think that the play calls dont really give him much of an opportunity to throw it down field but yes i do agree he could have a few times and for whatever reason just chose not to....finally it looks like it will be a long year and i have a feeling that akron is going to beat us next weekend unless the offense makes some serious improvements

I'm wondering if we ran a limited playbook on purpose so we wouldnt waste anything on App. State. I mean that shotgun package sucked asshole, and we ran left, and ran right, and threw in a pitch here an there. I really hope to see something different. ANd I dont give a fuck if we cant run a 2 back set if it means getting out of the shotgun. That was just pathetic.

not nearly enough people talk about the offensive line, but they are so bad. we only have a running game when brown turns the corner and does it himself.

think about last season when Jay Davis looked great in our first game against VT only to suck later on in the season. Maybe the opposite will happen this season. I can hope atleast

evans burke or hell, even throw blackman in to mix things up. its time for a change. anything of the 3 would be an improvement. i mean how much better can stone be at throwing the ball than blackman? blackman could be like a marcus hagans at qb. stone keeps most of the passing plays anyway might as well have a hb running these keepers.

^lol just goes to show how good our wrs are when when our best one is a hb naturally. he was born a hb and will always be a hb. hes a playmaker thats why he can play wr. i don't think it would be too far of a stretch to put him at qb. HAVE YOU SEEN THE WAY STONE PLAYS QB. you would think he was a hb or something

I was impressed with the team and happy that they won. I'll just spout off the complaints though.

Marcus Stone. He sucked. Didn't complete a pass that went more than 5 yards through the air. STILL has happy feet. He ought to thank his lucky stars that he has two stud backs and a defense to make up for his ineptitude. How can he be playing this poorly against a D1-AA school?

I really hope that he steps it up, but I have a feeling that he probably won't.

I hope Chuck burns Burke's redshirt. With Stone playing as bad as he did, it wouldn't be that much of a deal if Burke picked up some reps. He's raw and he doesn't know the system, yeah. But surely he can do everything that Stone was doing (well, maybe not the scrambling part). Judging by his high school numbers, I feel confident that he could throw an accurate ball. I just think he should be given the chance, while we're still playing teams we can beat.

Oh yeah, the way Stone plays, he's probably going to get himself hurt in the next few weeks. One of the backups better be ready to roll when he breaks something.

I was also disappointed with the playbook. Maybe Chuck is hiding all the good stuff for a worthy opponent, I dunno. I was expecting to see plenty of sets with Toney and Andre in the backfield. Instead, they take turns on drives and some other guy plays at the fullback slot if they run any I-formation.

And lastly, I was disappointed with the score. I wanted a blowout. I wanted to see App. State become embarassed off the field. Instead, they leave feeling pretty good about themselves because they hung in there with a D1 team. I thought that a convincing win would at least make the other teams a little cautious and nervous about us. Noooo. Instead, Akron probably thinks they'll be able to give us a game too.

Speaking of which, I have a sick feeling that we won't do very well against them either, which will only be a bad sign of whats coming next.
