If it is a misdemeanor it is usually required to be listed on a job application in my experiences. It is also a pain in the ass for other things like background checks, getting a notary license, etc. If it isn't a misdeamenor, then pay the fine and fuck it.

^ that happened to me once, but we weren't actually trying to entice the cops. My buddy went to Baja burrito for food, and i bought some liquor for him while i was making my purchase to save time. We get in car, i hand him his purchase gettin rdy to take off and the Man himself stopped us. I am sure he was about to bust a nut with the idea of catching someone purchasing alcohol for a minor. After seeing that both of us were 21 he had disappointed look, half-heartedly told us to have a nice day, and went back to his undercover car.

alot of companys do background checks anyways

majority of the time they are just making sure you are going to be deemed safe in the working environment, so the things that are *most* concerned with are violent/physical acts

^yeah

i guess there are more, point is just because you have something there does not mean you are overlooked

also, most of the time only the HR staff knows about it and they do not share it with your hiring manager - which means your qualifications are the only things your manager knows about

Okay, here's the deal, as I am going through this same thing right now. My friend and I were leaving the Harris Teeter in Cameron Village in January and ALE pulled us. My friend took the class, she said it was actually quite fun and informative-they taught you how to get out of a breathalyzer, and the particulars on the laws about searching the car and whatnot. The total cost of the class and court is $260, but after you take the class, you can get it off your record through expungement. I was going to take the class, but I had some extenuating circumstances, which made go to 15 AA meetings instead of the class, but I can still get it off my record, which is all I care about. If you have anymore questions, feel free to pm me. I would advise the class.

As a side note, I have a friend who is a Durham cop, and he told me he thought it wasn't worth the expungement. seeing as how you only get the one chance, you should use it wisely. I guess it just depends on what you want to do later in life...I want to work for the state, so I think I should go ahead and get it expuged; however, that being said, if you are prone to high risk behavior, I would save the expungement. If you take the class, you don't have to get it expunged, it just means that you weren't found guilty of the charge, which is better than paying the fine and being guilty.

because if you ever get caught with something worse (drugs, etc) you may want to use your expungement for that. there is no time limit on when you can get things expunged (atleast no short term time limit), so if you make it though college without any other busts, go ahead and get it expunged then.

Expungement and taking the class (ie getting it dropped) are different if I am reading this thread correctly. So my advice would be to suck it up, pay and take the class, which will save your expungement just in case you get caught buying a hooker or beating up the elderly.

take the class
then when you go back to court after taking the class they will ask you if you would like to go ahead and get it expunged, say no

the class is just a couple saturdays, doesn't cost that much, and you'll hear some funny stories
