never in my life have I heard a coach that ducks questions, and brings up assanine excuses like chuck

just watch tressel, or coker, or some of the other major program coaches, they give canned speaches that basically say we didn't get it done, the other team played great, every kid is upset in that locker room, we as coaches did not do our job, and we are going to do everything in our power to get it done next week.

its like bull durham where crash starts his lesson on the media, just thank the lord, your teamates, etc.

there is a way to handle the media, and chuck is not well versed in it, is he more interesting for the writers, probably, is his conduct good for the university....definately not

and if you are going to blame him

have your facts straight and don't blame him for not taking the blame when he clearly said he was to blame.

^I can't really blame chuck for that. There has always been and advesarial role between him and the media especially Chip alexander.

chuck did admit he didn't do his job. if you listened to the post-game interview, he blamed himself entirely for the loss. he took personal responsibility for the excessive celebration penalty, among other things. that's the one thing he did right about all this.

so when does the blame get something done?

and why are we paying someone who admits to NOT DOING THEIR JOB

if i dont do my job I GET FIRED

Florida has won national titles, NC State hasn't

Also, Dixon is a better WR coach than Holliday.

^What do you want done?

Do you want him fired? I don't. What do you want accomplished with the blame.

smacker......

i was not saying he did not take blame, i was simply giving a blueprint for how to answer those fucking questions

without, being short with the person asking the question, blaming some NCAA/conference rule, and generally trying to argue with the media

chuck could use about 10 years of classes on media relations, he simply sucks at it, fact is the way chuck deals with the media negatively effects our university's public image

i am so sick of Chuck's attitude. he thinks everything is perfectly fine with our football program and constantly tries to defend his shitty coaching and ridiculous losses to lower tier programs.

why cant he just man up and admit that we just are no where near where we need to be as an ACC football team.

i hate that asshole.

fire his mediocre ass

AND HAVE WE DONE ANYTHING TO SHOW WE ARE ON THE WAY TO DOING SO?

Go compare where FSU and Miami were at this point in Bowden/Schnellenberger's careers. Look at where they came from. Both were mediocre football schools like we have been for most of our history, occasionally making something like the Peach Bowl. By their 7th seasons, both had played for national titles, with Miami winning won and FSU losing the Orange Bowl twice.

Ok, the comparison with Florida schools is unfair. How about this? In Frank Beamer's 8th year, VT won the Big East. Don Nehlen went undefeated and played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl in his 8th year. George Welsh won the ACC in his 7th year and made the Sugar Bowl in his 8th. Before that, UVa was an absolute wreck, never having even smelled a bowl. All three showed steady improvement up until those seasons. Have we done anything to suggest we are on the way to playing in big bowls like that?

Yes. We should never have been in that bowl. UVA would have beat ND too. All anyone with a decent offense had to do was hold on to the ball and not turn it over. If you turned it over, ND's defense would score or put the offense into a position where it didn't have to try hard to score.

I mean how do you have Philip Rivers for 4 years, with a decent line and supporting cast, plus a decent defense, and not finish any better in the conference than the previous head coach did the four years before he was fired.

no, thats stupid. but it would be nice to be competing for it and the acc title by, say, year 7.

with the investments put into the program, we need more of a return.

That we shouldn't have been to in the first place and had to use one of the 2 1-2A school wins to qualify for. I will give kudos to Amato for his marketing ability (begging, crying, singing--whatever he did) to get us in that bowl however.

I can't even get worked up about anything this school does anymore.

We hired a basketball coach whose only head coaching experience can be noted as "fucking terrible" (BUT HE LOVES STATE!) and I'm sure if we fired Amato we'd go and try to pickup one of the Coordinators of notnotableinanything U.

To be fair to him, he NEEDS to do that. If I'm a kid on the team the last thing I want to hear my head coach say is 'we suck and my players and myself haven't gotten it done.' The second you lose the players trust it's the end of the line. I think that is what ultimately made Herb leave personally. When all the fans and the media start questioning EVERYTHING you do it's hard to keep 18-21 year olds believing in the coach and the program...

** That said, I've been in Chuck's corner but things need to change and fast. I can stomach losing games but I can't stomach losing them due to stupidity and easily correctable things. Countless times the past 3 years we've lost points and games due to STUPID penalties, bad decisions, and ridiculous playcalling. Something needs to change and it needs to change fast...

Quote :
"esp when he went to school here, and has caused tremendous amounts of improvements to the program"

People want to keep comparing this for some reason but the program RESULTS under Herb were a much greater improvement then the program results under Amato. I mean that is a fact, whether or not you thought Herb could bring us to the next level (the championship level) or not.

It's not like O'Cain was going 2-9 every year and finishing 8th or 9th in the ACC like the bball program was...

yeah, we need to give amato a lifetime contract so we can go to the car care bowl every year until the bowl goes bankrupt. gotta take care of the alumni

if you think we should give him carte blanche simply b/c he "built the facilities" and won a gator bowl, you have incredibly low expectations, much like the people who were cool w/ herb losing in the 2nd round every year.

^ I don't know if I trust that source. Everything I've ever read and remember (I was at the game) had FSU at #2. Maybe they were #1 in one poll, but definitely not a consensus #1.
