"I bought two micro SD memory cards from a seller. I recieved two cards, but neither are the ones I bid on. One is a different brand card & one is a transflash memory card. Yes, the cards are pretty similar, but still, if I bid on a specific item (as shown in the pic), shouldn't I get that specific item?

I contacted the seller about the transflash card & he basically refuses to do shit. He said if I ship him back the card he'd refund the purchase price. (leaving me short of the S&H from him & to ship it back to him) He's just being a dick about it, so I'm going to report it. "

You are entitled to the return shipping and handling. You can open a dispute at the paypal resolution center (assuming you paid thru paypal). You can also open a claim on ebay by going to My Ebay, going to your Won auctions, and off to the right of your miniSD auction, theres a drop down for actions. The last one is report item not received (though it covers more than this that). Click that, and it will start you thru the claim process. good luck.

Yeah I would think that if someone paid with a fraudulent payment source through paypal, and after the fact the seller tried to file a claim, paypal would probably say tough luck and send him a link to the seller protection policy. Though, in the case of fraudulent payment sources...it usually only takes a week or two for that to be identified, not over a month.

On the other hand tho, some of these people are selling their pre-order rights, not the actual system so those transactions probably wouldn't be like the above.

so... the short answer is no? I just think these sellers are nuts for listing the systems so early... seems like it's asking for trouble.

i love when an auction has all of its "major bids" done by people with 0 feedback who were created after the auction began.

kid obviously has 2 shill bidding friends bumping up his auction. one bumped up all the prices of old bidders until they were outbid and the last one presumably set a really high reserve (more than it is really worth in the market).

Has anyone ever bought something on eBay and gotten a tracking number from UPS and after checking to see if the package was delivered found that UPS said they delivered it and left it at the front door, but the package was nowhere to be found?

I called UPS about it and they confirmed that the address was right and told me that it was delivered according to their system but I never got it.

To investigate further, they said that they have to talk with the shipper so I emailed the seller through eBay and told him to call UPS but he hasn't yet and it has been a couple days.

What is my next course of action? Am I just out $25 or is there some other way to fix this? Maybe file a claim with PayPal or my credit card or something??

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

you just file a claim with UPS that your package was stolen. They will refund the insured amount.

UPS won't normally leave packages on the doorstep if its insured...but I do think they provide $100 or insurance with every shipment (or am I thinking of USPS or FEDEX?)

I bought something on eBay at work last night, and after I was done I logged out. I went to log in this morning, but it says my login info is invalid. I have the password saved on my home computer, so I know it's right. I went through the "forgot your password" process and it said it would send me an e-mail, but I didn't get one. I'm worried something bad has happened to my account, but as far as I can see there's no way to contact eBay about it.

What should I do?

Ebay has a phone line? The times I've had to deal with them in the past they said they only have that online chat thing, which is only for buying and selling advice.

That's PayPal, not eBay. Will they still be able to help?

OK. The answer was no. Any more ideas?

I just talked to someone else who can't log in either, so I guess it's just an eBay problem. Hooray for no identity theft.

Is there a way to prevent people in foreign countries from bidding on my stuff? My auctions say that I ship to the US only, but these fucking U.K. and Canadian assholes bid anyway without sending me an e-mail. One of those fuckers even used 'buy it now' so I had to pay to relist the item again.

You should be able to relist without paying if that happened.

Does anyone have ebay market research? Is it worth it? And can you track the average prices of a particular item sold over a certain period of time?

since someone locked the other thread:

Quote :
"^^how many of those 16 positives were on items sold and how many items bought?

i am skeptical of buying anything for more than about 20 bucks if the seller doesnt have at least 100 feedback with >98% on items SOLD

cause it would be easy to buy 20 small items and get 100% feedback and then jip somebody on a car or some expensive shit"

well now that i look closer, 3 of the 16 positives were from auctions that he had sold something. the 3 came from items that included a blackberry, ipod, and digital camera. and those 3 people had legit ratings as well. that's what made me think this was an ok deal; cause he's been involved selling high priced electronics.

Weird this thread popped up...I was just thinking about this.

I've never sold anything on Ebay and I'm thinking about putting a travel voucher I have up for auction. I a little apprehensive about it because: 1. I've never sold anything on Ebay before, 2. from the research I've done so far, there seem to be some weird rules about selling travel vouchers and 3. I don't want to get screwed, as first time seller.

Anyone have any pointers to offer?

^ yeah thats a tough one. First off if you're feedback isn't at least 10 over with >=98% positive you probably dont want to bother. try searching for the exact travel voucher you have and see if theyve been sold there in the past.

oh please. theres a difference between being cautious and just limiting your options. if someone has less than 98% and under 50, fine, be worried if it is a high priced item, but other than that you are fine if they are a verified paypal member because of buyers protection policy.

i got my money back from paypal after a scammed 360 deal in no time.

part of ebay is just bulk sellers and whatnot, but another legitimate part is small time sellers who just want to unload their good, just like in classifieds. those people arent going to have hundreds of feedback, but may be willing to take less and/or work with you more if something goes wrong (particularly since they dont have thousands of positives to fall back on and building rep back up aint easy as a small seller). i've been on since 2001 and i've only got 60. people still buy from me and my stuff is always in great condition.

yeah thats overreacting. If the price is smaller (<$30) or so I'll buy from almost anyone if all their feedback is positive and everything looks right. I've bought $100-$200+ items from sellers with 10-20 feedback and never had a problem with them. You look at their feedback, the items they're currently selling, the items theyve sold in the past, how well the ad is done etc and use all that information to decide to buy or not.

i agree that that is overreacting as well. considering i didn't go blindly into it and actually looked at what he sold and to whom over what period of time, everything looked completely good to me. it was just a small time guy trying to get rid of stuff, like me on occasion. well since posting, i found another user that just posted negative feedback for the seller on another model radar detector that ended the same day. he said he hasn't had any contact after calling and emailing. so due to that, i filed a claim with paypal to see if anything gets resolved. i do have a phone number now for this guy though; anyone wanna have some fun?

Thanks for the feedback.

The vouchers have been sold there in the past (i.e., http://tinyurl.com/3bsphs), but the sellers have a fare amount of feedback, so I don't know if I'd get same response.

Hmmm...Selling a $40 truck part on eBay. I accept Paypal only, but the buyer sends me an e-mail saying "where do I send the money order."

Buyer has zero feedback and just opened the eBay account this week. Buyer happens to have a Gmail e-mail, but I get no hits when I google it. Sounds very scammy to me. The only thing that makes me think it is legit is that I'm selling such a cheap item. I would have expected a scammer to get something of value.

I guess I'll take his money order, but I'm holding it until it clears with my bank in case it is a forgery. How long should I hold it?

I'm holding the item I sold until I know that the guy didn't send a forged money order or cashier's check.

This is a decent guide to identifying real money orders:

The bank can't recognize a forged check. Scammers use them all the time in cases like this:

Quote :
"Not "Made of Money"

04/23/03 by Chuck Rupnow - Wisconsin Leader-Telegram

A 23-year-old Menomonie man thought he sold his motorcycle over the Internet for about $4,800.

After no one came to pick up the cycle, and bank officials informed him the check from Nigeria was a fake, he knew he was a victim of a scam that cost him nearly $4,000.

Police in northwestern Wisconsin have been busy in recent months trying to thwart the scam, which has appeared in New Richmond, Cumberland, Whitehall and River Falls.

According to FBI officials in Eau Claire the scam artists attempt to purchase items over the Internet, such as cars, bikes and horses.

The apparent buyer sends a check for more than the amount of the purchase and asks the seller to wire funds for the overpayment to an overseas address.

The checks, sometimes cashier’s checks, look authentic, complete with watermarks, FBI agents say. But the checks and bank accounts are fake.

In the Menomonie man’s case, his cycle was purchased for $4,800 and the buyer sent him a check for $8,900. Subtracting certain fees, he sent a check of his own for $3,916 to an address in Nigeria.

A short time later, after no one came to pick up the cycle, he contacted police, who told him he’d been victimized.
"

Basically, you cash the check, the money goes into your account, and don't find out for a week or two that it was a fake. If you've ever tried to sell a car on Craigslist, Autotrader, etc. you are almost guaranteed to have at least one of these scammers contact you.

If he were an established eBay member I wouldn't worry about it. It's only $55 (after shipping.) I don't mind working with him since he is obviously a n00b, but at the same time I'm going to protect myself.

Ugh these fuckin' eBay n00bs that don't know how to check their junkmail folder and fuckin shit all up.

It's only been a week since the auction ended and the fool still hasn't put a damn check in the mail. Half the shit I sell is to get it out of my house.

So what happens if you ship something to a customer, it is delivered, and the customer claims he never received it? I have a FedEx Ground tracking number saying it was delivered.

Typical scam. They will eventually file a charge back through PayPal, and you will be covered by the Seller Protection policy (meaning PayPal will just foot the bill, they will not take your money), provided you:

1. Shipped to a confirmed address
2. Required signature confirmation if the amount in question is >$250.

If you fail to meet either of those guidelines, you got pwnt.

It turned out to be a FedEx error. The dumb bitch typed "Unit #7" instead of "Unit #1" so it was delivered to the wrong apartment. FedEx tried to blame it on me of course and told me there was nothing that could be done. I told them that I wanted proof that I wrote it incorrectly on the shipping label (I didn't have the shipping label in front of me at the time) and they finally said they would check to see if it was a typing error on their part and get back to me in 24 hours.

I told the buyer that I'd take care of it regardless, but I asked him to just go knock on the door of Unit #7 and tell them that a package had been delivered there accidentally. When he went there it turned out to be a vacant apartment and the package was still sitting outside the door. It sat outside of the apartment for 4 days and we were just lucky nobody grabbed it. Must not be a college apartment complex.

He checked the hand written part of the shipping label and confirmed that I had written the correct address. FedEx is supposed to call me back today. I'm tempted to tell them the package is lost and I want them to cover the cost of the package ($50) + refund my shipping. I'm not going to do that just because I can't stand shady people, but I am going to demand that they refund my shipping.

Shit is going to hit the fan if they tell me I wrote it incorrectly now that I have confirmed that the shipping label was correct.

They are, but I doubt that covers the package after they deliver it. I think it would only cover things that happen in transit.

So FedEx never called me yesterday as they had promised. They faxed me "proof of delivery" which is just the stuff that shows up if you plug the tracking number into their website. I'm going to call tonight and bitch at some people.
