I suspect he was referring more to the fact that it was a market failure, like most of Sony's proprietary media ventures. Having a technologically superior product doesn't guarantee market success.

Huh, for that reason alone I came to the conclusion that the PS3 was begging to be hacked. I'd say that would push people who otherwise wouldn't bother with a modded console to actively seek one out.

While I agree with this I'd just like to point the following out. CDs and video games are different. For example, some people may think that the "right price" for a CD is $8 and the same person may think the "right price" for a video game is $30. If enough people think like this you will have a large community of people stealing the games/music that otherwise wouldn't if the prices were lower.

Why $60. Because people will pay. For me it's too much, I won't bother with the next gen of consoles because I don't feel like it's worth it (plus any game I want can be had for $39.99 on the PC day of release). Obviously there are enough people that will pay the $60.

well, yeah, there are a few different camps. some people just like to make excuses, others actually do think it is too much.

when my PC was up to spec, i bought a TON of games compared to how many i buy on the console (in fact i got gamefly because i was wasting so much money and/or not buying games because of the prices).

none-the-less whether you value it or not doesnt really justify downloading games or hacking a system. thats just a cop-out; there are other options (again, like gamefly) that lower the price.

Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on unit coming to Japan on November 17th (notice the date?) for ~$170

Should hit US Shores shortly thereafter for around $200 most likely

With it will come a firmware update boasting 1080p output
