I wouldn't mind if me mixed in a shovel pass from the shotgun.

I agree with this...however, o-line will be carrying a lot of weight

I only wish we'd try a little trickery every now and then. Have we tried a reverse yet this year?

did you watch the game? Receiver in motion behind the QB, snap as the WR comes behind the QB, toss...

I mean, trickery? Maybe that's not it... but being conservative won us that game.

9/25/2006 9:13:00 AM"

Yes, I watched from section 24, where I have been for every home game (that I was in the country) for the past 3 seasons.

You act like I want us to go to some gimmick offense or something, calm down. Would it be better if I stated it like this

"Our play calling is a little too predictable to me at times."

Would you be more likely to agree, because that is essentially what I said.

I think, as Evans gets more experience, we'll see the offense start to become more complex again. Frankly, with the RBs we have I'd like to see a bit more misdirection and diversity in the rungame...

how about on a toss sweep let andre throw it back to evans who goes deep. like what florida did. we used to do sweet shit like that all the time before trestman came in with his alabama offense.

"Oklahoma coaching great Barry Switzer has been controversially credited by many for having "perfected" the use of the wishbone offense. The wishbone's reliance on execution and discipline make it a favorite to this day of programs that routinely play opponents with superior size and speed, such as the Air Force Academy."

There is a difference between the Wishbone and the Flexbone (which Air Force runs).

But misdirection and diversity are not the strong suits of our #1 and #2 backs... they are power runners.

Play calling is going to be pretty smple when you have a QB that is in over his head (Stone) or you have a QB that is new (Evans). The West Coast offense is notorously difficult for QB's to learn so don't expect anything too earth shattering for Evans early on.

I'm not saying we want to see an Air Force type offense just a bit more then running up the gut. Andre and Tony are power backs but they are both relatively agile too. A little diversity in the run game could possibly make up for some of our OLs deficiencies.. I'm no football coach though; it was just a thought...

funny how sports works:

in skimming over this thread, i am seeing the majority say that we should go to a very conservative style running game, almost never pass, control the clock, limit possessions and shorten the game. That is funny b/c we have superior athletes in football and yall want them to slow it down and then in bball we didn't have superior athletes compared to our competition and yall wanted them to speed it up....some coaches can never win

Evans played, I thought, a wonderful game for the most part on sat. night. he was poised, hit a receiver when he was open MOST of the time, and made great reads on coverages a few times and got us yardage. he did wait a little long on a couple of throws but that will come w/ more first team reps. It has been much publicized that Trestman runs NFL practices, meaning the starter gets 85% of first team reps. Evans will start to get that. THe pitch to Hill was just something that you cannot teach. The throw b4 the "hail mary" was an absolute beautiful throw. I am excited that when a receiver is open he gets the ball, most of the time in stride.

and don't put too much into stats. He had to throw away at least 4 balls quickly b/c he had no time from the oline. that makes him 15/27 throwing out the purposeful throw-aways. Also, the batted balls at the line are on him but still if his oline wasn't so close to him b/c they get pushed back he would have better throwing lanes. he will also learn how to adjust to that w/ time.

overall, as you can tell, i am excited about the rest of the season. w/ evans proving he is at least a capable qb of throwing the football, that will open the runs for baker and brown more than anything else.

I mean really what is Trestman suppossed to do to impress some of you fucks? You want Mazzone back?

I mean it was our QB's 1st ever start.

The offense clearly was better Saturday against a good defense.

I don't know if anyone will be able to run the ball 60 times against UNC... If the D never stops you it severely limits your number of attempts.

screw fire chuck...FIRE TRESTMAN. Its ridiculous to have a combined 0 pts against both maryland and UVA two straight weeks in the first half.

One example is bringing Stone in. After the first play when he decided to pitch the ball back to somone looking at a girl in the stands, I woul dhave taken him out right there.

Another is the complete inconsistancy with the offense. We throw one series, run the next, throw one, run the next. When they ahve stopped the run all day, you have to open the playbook up to page 3 and pass the ball more. They had 8 men in the box the entire game and he failed to realize that until the 4th quarter.

You can't blame the defense. They were only the field all day long.

EXACTLY.

I have no idea what the fuck is going on with our play calling. First we run it way too fucking much....then we pass it every sing play, and with nobody in the box, we continue to pass it. MIX THE SHIT UP TRESTMAN. Jesus.

Jay Davis might have thrown over 300 yds against Miami when Gameday was here.

Jay davis threw for almost 2200 yds that season, that is an average of just under 200 yds per game, he was probably over 200 in 6-7 of those games

and evans threw for 200 against Wake

and I am sure there were at least 1 or 2 200+ games in 2005
