Atlanta is pretty fucking ghetto.

I got back from there recently. The place got old after one weekend. Stayed in one of the nicest hotels in the entire city and it was still like a bad rap video.

There are some decent places in Buckhead. You'll probably want to go to Fado. It's a laid-back place and not too ghetto. It's like Hibernian here, but maybe a little more high energy.

Midtown is all right, but traffic is a bitch. It's bumper to bumper low-riders. Went to a club called Halo. It was all right. There is a pub around there (on sixth street I believe) that was decent.

Probably the coolest thing in the entire city is this area called Little Five Points. It has some really eclectic shops there and it's a great way to spend an afternoon.

Don't go to the undergroupd. It's ghetto.
Don't go downtown. It's ghetto.

All in all, Atlanta is ghetto-not-so-fabulous. You couldn't pay me to live in that shithole.

I live in Midtown, right on Peachtree Street. Traffic isn't always bad if you time things right. I work in downtown, but usually hang out in Midtown or Buckhead. I don't do the clubs/bars often, so I can't help you there, but there a lot of really nice restaurants to go to.

haha, Atlanta isn't a shithole. Go to Detroit if you wanna see a shithole. Atlanta is no different than any other major US city, it has its nice parts, and it has its bad parts. I really don't know what you expect when there are 5million people in a city, the entire place isn't going to be perfect. Not to mention its in the south and there are a lot of black people in Atlanta.

there aren't 5 million people that actually live in Atlanta, it's more like 500k

that's like me saying there are 25 million people in San Diego when I'm really just talking about all of Southern California

Atlanta has 5million people. Atlanta itself is a small city, and nobody lives in the city limits hardly. Its really fucked up how the city limit is drawn out. Its like Los Angeles, I think there are only around 3.8 actually in the city, and over 10million in the metro area. The city limits of major cities are not what you go by, its the metro area. And the metro area of San Diego is not 25million anyway.

To get my point across, go look at Albuquerque, New Mexico. Its 490k vs Atlanta at 470k. Now we all know Atlanta is shit times more bigger than Albuquerque.

i'm not saying the whole metro area isn't huge, just that 5 million people don't chill inside the city limits all day long

YES. Good god they have some humongous burgers, an awesome beer/wine/spirits menu, good environment (gotta be 21 now), just an amazing spot to eat.

If you're ever on 20 heading west, you pretty much don't want to exit from anything <60 til you hit Six Flags. Moreland Rd, which is the street you'd take to Little Five Points, is actually exit 60A-B.

Don't go to Sandy Springs.

There's not much to be desired within the city limits. If you're good at remembering where the interstate is, then feel free to peruse the Peachtrees (see below).

Avoid taking 285 if you can help it.

North Atlanta - Roswell, Dahlonega, Alpharetta, etc; pretty much anything you encounter once 85 becomes US 400 at about exit 87 - is mostly suburban, partly Mexican, extremely boring.

Honestly your best bet is Midtown or downtown east of the interstate. If you're a health nut, ditch the Vortex and head to R. Thomas' Deluxe Grill on Peachtree Road.

Finally, don't let all the different Peachtree Streets confuse you. Pretty much anything you've ever finished off a street name with has a Peachtree for it. Peachtree [St., Ave., Blvd., Rd., Dr., Way, Battle, Creek, Memorial], W. Peachtree, E. Peachtree, N. Peachtree, S. Peachtree, SE Peachtree, S-SE Peachtree, N-NW Peachtree, peachtreestreet.com, peachtreestreet.net, http://www.geocities.com/peachtreestreet...]

I know, thats why I posted it right before you posted this. And thats the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Im sure some of those 500k leave too, so its a stupid point to make. If you knew anything about how the city limits in Atlanta were drawn, or where people in Atlanta actually live, you might could pretend you know something.

Its pretty much implied that the city is referring to the metro area. haha, Im not arguing with you, its pretty obvious you lost.

Either way, its not fucking Raleigh, so you should expect to see things you wouldn't there, or anywhere in NC for that matter.

My friends and I were thinking about catch phrases for Atlanta. Some of the contenders:

Atlanta! It’s Ghetto-not-so-fabulous!
Atlanta! I went for a weekend and came back a racist!
Atlanta! The stoplights are optional!

Finally…

Atlanta! Hey, at least it’s not Detroit!

You’re right. Detroit is a dump. But no one actually goes to Detroit thinking it’s worth seeing.

I've been to just about every major city worth seeing, aside from San Diego and Seattle. You simply can’t compare Atlanta to say Chicago, NYC, LA, or DC. Yeah, every city has its rough spots, but even the *nicest* places in Atlanta are thugged out. You could be walking into a restaurant that cost $75 per person and chilling outside would be some homies getting lit in a Mercuy Marquis on 24's. And for whatever reason, the preferred color of the Merurcy Marquis in Atlanta is this wierd piss yellow color. What's up with that?

Yeah, I had fun in Atlanta, but I have fun in Raleigh too. Shit, I had more fun in Richmond. I hate to say this, but the Triangle—an area of PhD’s, programmers, and rednecks—has more to offer than Atlanta. Well...to be fair, I've never seen a old ass station wagon with wood paneling on 24" spinners driving around in Raleigh. Saw it in Atlanta. Wish I got a picture.

If there were ever a place designed specifically to promote black stereotypes, it would be like Atlanta.

BTW, if you're looking for good clubs, also consider club one tweezy. Hope you got your crunk cup ready.

See, thats your problem. You come to Atlanta expecting it to be like a NYC, or LA, or Chicago, but nobody that lives here thinks of it that way. We knows its a big city, and there is a ton of shit to do, but most of it isn't the tourist shit. I don't think most people come to Atlanta expecting a "badass" time or anything if you are coming as a tourist or on business. Unless you count our many strip clubs. There are a lot of things to do here, but its not some shock and awe place for you small city people like a NYC or LA is. I've been to a lot of big cities, LA, DC, NYC, SF, Miami, Detroit, Philly, Houston, etc.... They all have their shit parts, and even their nice parts have shit in them. I've gone out to eat at nice ass places in Beverly Hills, NYC, and a bunch of other cities, and in all of them a few blocks away is some shit apartment building, or there are even..imagine this....black people driving around in cars with rims and loud music!! OMG HOW SCARY! Atlanta is a lot different because its in the south, and is the only true huge southern city, and there are ALOT of black people here. Oh, and if you think $75 a person is some "nice ass place to eat" you have a lot to learn in life. I don't know what dream city you expect to see when you travel, that is all white people driving BMW's, Mercedes, and Jags, and everyone plays their music at a nice level, and nobody is dressed like a thug, because it does happen. And the funny part, alot of those "thugs" you see in Atlanta have a shit ton more money than you do. I was in a gas station a few months ago here in Buckhead getting some beer, and this complete fuck face thug walks past me and grabs some beer out of the spot next to me, and as I am paying, I look out and see him getting into a fucking Bentley. And don't even act like fucking Raleigh has more to offer than Atlanta. If you honestly believe that, you are just lying to yourself. How about you call me when the Olympics, or even a major sport competition come there. Other than a bunch of universities with a lot of money in small area, the triad can't hang.
