His post was just about dead on when it was made.

The fact we actually switched quarterbacks is what changed all that.

Lets all make the comparison, after all he DID win 2 games. Rivers never won 2 games for us. Never. Rallydurham shouldn't post here (add some of your names to the list also) anymore. My opinion. Guy is never right.

FSU will crush us .

for the record i clearly stated:

Quote :
"State will win this one somehow

They always play to the level of their competition and FSU seems to be the only good team Chuck knows how to beat"

so it must mean that I am right about everything all the time

you know

because my hunch, that had a 1 in 2 chance of being correct, was right

Earl you fucking moron.

I made those comments a month ago when we had MARCUS STONE as the QB.

That's not a trivial thing.

That guy was god awful. You put Marcus Stone out there last night and leave all other personnel the same and we would have been BURIED.

If you look at the posts i made YESTERDAY i gave us a chance to win. I didnt think we WOULD win but i said we had a chance. Im surprised because FSU really didnt play all that badly and yet we still beat them. But you are acting like our offense went off on them or something.... what did we have... 350 yards or so? I remember at the end of the third quarter we only had about 220 yards. Im still amazed that we moved the ball so well. Our receivers were making ridiculously sick catches and our o-line played better than anyone thought they could.

I was wrong about Evans. Actually I never posted that i thought HE would suck. I said i didnt know. I'd never seen him play. I didnt know much about him at all.

When i said he'd get swallowed out there last night it wasnt because i thought HE would suck. I thought our o-line would suck. (they played well) . I didnt think it was a good situation for him to be in. I thought he would probably have a lot of trouble adjusting to the collegiate game and be too nervous to make plays, especially against teams like FSU. I'm amazed how well he's played. His talent level is about where I thought it would be, but i would never have guessed how comfortable he'd be out there.

And please dont start this Notre Dame '02 bowl thing again. Those guys werent any good that year. Yes, they were good at the beginning of the season but they were awful when we played them. We were FAVORED in that game. Imagine that... the darlings of the college football world were UNDERDOGS to NC State who almost no one had ever even heard of at the time. Do you know how many random people probably bet on Notre Dame in that game? If it wasn't for their extreme popularity we probably would have been 7 point favorites in that game. Listen to phishnlou, he knows they werent any good that year.

And as someone pointed out I said in Rivers LAST THREE SEASONS. I know he won a lot of games in the clutch his freshman year. But he sure as fuck didnt after that.

THe Ohio State game yes he played amazing in the 2nd half. But in the first half he sucked. He couldnt complete any passes. And then he botched the game with those horrid QB sneaks. He gets credit for a GREAT second half but it wasn't enough to overcome his poor first half and choke at the end.

where on earth did i say Evans was a better QB than Rivers? I'd never say that. Just like you won't hear me call Jake PLummer a great QB. But Jake is known for being somewhat clutch. Evans isn't John Elway or anything, but he's pretty freaking clutch. I called my buddy down 20-17 and said dude we're about to win this game i think and he agreed. Its not often that i EVER feel good about NC State's chances since we have such a penchant for blowing early leads. But I bet its only the 2nd or 3rd time Ive felt like we were going to win when we were losing in the 4th quarter.

Except of course when he beat UNC his freshmen year, on the road, with a shitty defense. Also smoked UNC on the road two years later 34-17. So every year = 2 outa 4. Someone failed statistics..."

And this is just outright wrong and I'm sure you knew that.

A) My post clearly stated I was only talking about RIvers last three seasons. Therefore he lost to UNC 2 of the 3 times in the specified time period.

B) We were getting beatdown in that Carolina game that you are referring to. Rivers couldnt do anything. We won that game on the backs of TA McClendon who went absolutely apeshit and Josh Brown who had his coming out party that afternoon. You are crazy if you think Rivers won that game for us.

did we beat unc his senior year? i think i have it confused with the year TA fumbled on the goaline... my timeline is a little blurry because i missed one of those games while i was in jail.

When i think of rivers vs UNC i think of two plays

His TD catch against them his freshman year.

The blown pass on 4th and goal to the open receiver when we lost his sophomore year.

yeah the game where TA fumbled was the Jay Davis semi-era, and one of two games (ECU being the other one) where he looked like an ok QB.

i think that was the game where rivers bowled over Dex Reid(for a TD?) and Reid pushed a photographer down at some point.

You guys are forgetting that Rivers was cursed with Kiker, how many games did he lose for us Rivers senior year? I know atleast two maybe three. He missed easy fgs in the florida st and maryland games that would have won the game if I remember correctly.

he has won 2 god damn games and you are saying he is doing something Rivers didnt...what the fuck are you smoking? Evans is no Rivers and never will be, they shouldnt even be compared......maybe maybe Evans is a poor mans version of a shorter, smaller, Rivers....however, only 2 damn games, he could loose all the remaining....

He also could have played about a million times worse than he did in this game: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=252470152

I don't get how people can still shit on Jay Davis after seeing what glory was bestowed on us by the Marcus Stone era.

He was just ungodly bad against Clemson

I think the only fair way you can compare the two would be their first two starts. RallyDurham is a fucking idiot to bash Philip's performance at any point in his career. You say Philip won tons of games his first year but not in his last three. Yet Evans has started two freaking games EVER and you're saying he's a better end of game QB. MORON!!

Why can't we just say that Philip was probably the greatest quarterback that we will ever have AND we are all very happy to have a QB at this point that is getting the job done. That seems simple to me. Why try to bring down a wolfpack great in the process?

I keep seeing all these threads saying how great Evans is, but where are all the threads talking about how great our recievers are? Don't get me wrong hes done a great job of getting the ball to our recievers so they can make plays, but 3/4 of those passes were just lobbed up to our recievers. On almost all those passes there was this feeling in my stomach that this pass had a chance of being picked off (maybe I haven't gotten over Davis/stone) but everytime our recievers went up fought off the CB made some acrobatic catch and came down with the ball, time after time.

Evans is just doing what stone couldn't, hes giving our recievers a chance to actually make plays. I give Evans credit for not being afraid to try and make plays and realizing he just need to give his team a chance, but lets not make him out to be better than Rivers just yet.

Over the last 10 years we have produced as good of NFL talent-Wide Recievers as just about anyone.

Torry, Whitted, KRob, Cotchery....now we are seeing a QB hopefully put more of these guys on their way. Bowens, James, and Williams look good. Dunlap is very talented and should play on Sunday too.

^^agree as well. It is a mix of things, the QB getting the ball in a spot that the wr can make a play, and then the wr actually doing it. early this year i was thinking our receivers weren't that good, but after watching the last few games that is not true at all. we actually have a ton of depth, some size, and good speed. some of those young wr's looked great tonight, and dunlap is clutch.

thats just football though, wr's sometimes don't get the credit. think about flutie, he just dropped back and threw a ball randomly down the field and he's a hero. nobody even knows the name of the guy that actually caught the ball.

last night the offense clicked for the first time in a long time, from the play calling(some of the best i've seen lately) to the running game and passing game. How about the back to back trick plays? they didn't work.. but still cool.

are you seriously an idiot, saying that Rivers wasn't a good "end-game QB." Freshman year. End of story. Practically all PR did his freshman year was make comebacks. Hell, he even did it in the freaking BOWL GAME that year.

His next three years he was such a good starting QB that he rarely ever needed to be an end-game QB. It's a dumbass comparison. "Oh, PR didn't have many comebacks his 3rd year." No shit! He beat em in the first 3 freaking quarters! And, when he did have the occasional time where he was behind in the 4th, it was usually TA who fumbled the freaking ball away to blow the game. How many terrible INTs did PR throw in the 4th quarter?

If you give me the choice between PR and Evans with 2 minutes to go and down 6, I'll take PR every single time. Even if he's injured. And unconscious.

Evans is doing a great job but lets not get carried away here. If Rivers had the supporting cast that evans has now it would be a national championship. And although some of amato's play calling has been questionable, this guy has really brought alot of talent into Raleigh. He's had a couple bad apples at QB, and you cant really blame stone's performance on amato.
