my dad got that car.....but as its been said already, it takes a little bit of configuring before you can parallel park, its not just 'press a button'.
id still be wary of trusting any computer/machine to 'think' enough to not damage other cars.
its more or less just a clever novelty. 3/7/2007 11:44:04 AM |

Something doesn't look quite right about the IS-F's hoodline. I guess it had to be further domed than the IS250/350 to accept the bigger engine? Makes the side profile look a little odd. Good-looking vehicle otherwise... 3/8/2007 1:57:23 AM |

ahahaha, yeah it does have quite a dome-piece! the problem is, instead of gently sloping in a constant curve from front window to grill, it comes out straight, and then at the end, drastically slopes down, and then it makes an elongated bumper... (see side profile on previous page, and compare it with side profile of M3 in the M3 thread). don't know, guess it is the engine.
in fact, it looks even odder in this picture below (slightly turned to front) as opposed to in the side profile:

it parallel parks itself, however, it does not un-parallel park itself. Therefore, the feature seems pretty useless to me. If you can't get into the spot by yourself, how are u supposed to get out by urself. 3/8/2007 2:11:06 AM |

getting out is magnitudes of order easier than getting in.
and btw, for those of you blasting the car for how worthless the feature is because it takes forever, guys, this is new tehcnology, and it has to start somewhere.
newer generation of this technology will obviously be more and more useful.
you guys back in 1880 would have been like:
LOLOLOZ that new invention is useless!!! we can walk faster than it... what the use??!!! 3/8/2007 2:15:43 AM |

I don't know if i would go as far as to say that. I can def see ppl getting into a tight space and being so used to using auto parking features that they don't know where their bumpers are (like when you get a new car and it takes some pratice with judging distances from objects...esp when backing up) and tapping other cars.3/8/2007 2:26:27 AM |

Finally!
Lexus to reveal LX 570 in New York
Quote : | "Lexus will stage the world debut of the all-new LX 570 luxury utility vehicle at the 2007 New York International Auto Show. "The third-generation LX 570 will reach new heights in performance via a powerful new V8 engine while achieving elevated levels of comfort, style and safety," the company said in an announcement.
The LX 570 is expected to feature a 5.7-liter V8 similar to the one offered in the new Toyota Tundra pickup. The Tundra powerplant puts out 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. It's not known if the power ratings or specifications will change in the Lexus application.
The LX 570 will replace the LX 470 and will feature an all-new exterior." |

I think it brings the question of who's at fault when the accident happens. I'm sure somebody will use the 'it's the car's fault' excuse to get out of a hit and run or something.
Personally, I feel this is a horrible idea, just like CVT transmissions....they both put more empahsis on the machine controlling whats going on versus the driver. (CVT transmissions are bad IMO because they create an even larger dissonance between what the car is doing and what the driver thinks the car is doing.
Nissan....Lexus....why can't you just offer people some 'Accelerated Driving Experience' where people are tricked into improving their driving skills while testing out new vehicles. Sounds like easy sales to me. 3/14/2007 3:18:11 PM |

VIDEO: Holy holograph! Lexus ad stops foot traffic in NYC
Quote : | "Holographs have certainly come a long way and you just have to see this Lexus ad to believe it. The company Vizoo is responsible for its creation and has quite a few other non-automotive holographic projectors out there as well. You'll find them quick enough if you click around YouTube for a bit. This particular one is an interactive display for Lexus that allows users to select models and colors before beaming them into the indoor space for a 360-degree walkaround of the lifesize virtual vehicle. It's so realistic that the shop is drawing too big of a crowd for its own good. Police can be seen in the video asking people to move along. The old, "there's nothing to see here" line just doesn't hold water in this case though." |

FUCKING INSANE!!!!
LS 600h L = $104,750
Most expensive Jap car ever, by a huge margin (if you ignore the NSX).
Do they really think this will sell???
What's $104,750 buy you? The Lexus LS 600h L
Quote : | "If you're a high-level executive and an environmentalist at heart who just can't give up the leather, wood, and most importantly, big-car power for a Spartan-interior, gas-sipping Prius, the Lexus LS 600h L is the solution to your quandry. Toyota's luxury arm combines a 5.0 liter V8 with an electric motor and a CVT to produce 430 hp. Lexus says the car's sticker price will start at $104,750. On top of all the geeky hybrid bits, that money gets you the world's first production-car LED headlights, full-time all-wheel-drive, 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system with an 8GB hard drive, Intuitive Parking Assist, and loads of luxury. Options include 4-zone climate control, a power-reclining rear seat with massage, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Lexus doesn't give fuel economy estimates for the 600h, but expects the car to receive the Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle rating and says the car will have the best-in-class V8 fuel efficiency that's roughly equal to the numbers achieved by other V6 AWD luxury sedans." |
Sure it has Myabach-like rear reclining seats with foot rests, but I don't think it would sell well. Well I don't know, if you are a CEO and you want the luxury of reclining seats, either it is this, or the $350,000+ Maybach 62 (Maybach 57 has regular seats). So, it might just sell well enough for it to be viable.
I would post pics, but there are like 3-4,000 pixels wide:
