How can you put Ga. Tech so low and Duke so how?
well, of course Duke always seems to be able to find a way, so I can see them being top four, but really ga. tech should be a 2. 10/23/2006 12:08:57 AM |

Quote : | " GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Sidney Lowe sat down for brunch at a table with the rest of the Atlantic Coast Conference coaches Sunday. And like the new kid at school, the North Carolina State coach opted to just take in the scene.
"I didn't say a word," he said during the ACC's annual preseason media day. "I just listened."
Lowe has been on the job for only a few months since taking over for Herb Sendek, who left in April for Arizona State. It wasn't a quick route to Raleigh either; Lowe had to complete course work for his undergraduate degree while learning NCAA rules and finishing his stint as an assistant with the NBA's Detroit Pistons before officially taking over in July.
Lowe began preseason practice with the Wolfpack earlier this month, taking the court to lead the program he helped win a national championship in 1983. But his coaching experience in the years since has been confined to the NBA.
Lowe will have his work cut out for him. After losing key contributors like Cedric Simmons and Ilian Evtimov, the Wolfpack was picked to finish last in the league.
Perhaps that's just one reason why he figured it was good to listen to his experienced peers at the table.
"I was taking it all in from these guys who have been through it before," Lowe said. "I'm not a genius, but I'm pretty smart, though. I know protocol. I know what you do. You come in somewhere new, you listen."" |

McRoberts was incredibly unimpressive last year.
But he wasn't in the role that he is best served being in since egghead was still there. This year he'll be in the post and will be very good. They are going to need him to be too. I don't see Duke winning more then 10 or 11 ACC games this year unless he turns in to an absolute stud... 10/23/2006 1:45:19 AM |

It was a lot more fun during Jule's last year when the expectations from fans weren't as high.
That's why I think this year is going to be just as fun. I honestly think that this is a step in the right direction for NCSU and our team is a lot better than what we're getting credit for. 10/23/2006 2:13:14 AM |

This is the best thing that could have happened to us.
There is no way we'll finish last in the ACC. I think We'll be in the bottom of it, but definitely not last.
Too much talent in our starting lineup.
But this is great in terms of motivation, etc.
My prediction: We go 7-9 or 8-8 and finish 7th or so and Lowe is considered for Coach of the Year honors. 10/23/2006 9:45:15 AM |

"There was no way we should have had just four teams," Williams said. "That was stupid. We should come out and say from the get-go [that] we should get seven or eight teams."
Williams seemingly doesn't have to worry about whether the Heels get an NCAA bid, although he does have to worry about being the target.

no, not really.
i hope we don't, and i dont think we will, but if we do, it won't surprise me. we have 2 players on the roster with consistent experience. while we do have some talent in our starting 5, they will be having to adjust to a new offense, under a new coach, who has zero college coaching experience....let alone any acc coaching experience. yes, lowe has NBA experience, but its a different game, and a different type of motivation. i think the nba experience will help lowe in recruiting, but that won't help during his first year. we also have no bench. if we have one starter injured, we are in trouble.
based on those factors, at the end of the year, if we end up in last, it really won't surprise me.
would i predict a last place finish? no, but it certainly can happen.

I don't understand why we are supposed to be so bad this year.
We were fairly good last year, right?
What did we fucking lose from last years team?
Evtimov is addition by subtraction.
Herb is quite possibly addition by subtraction.
Bethel was a solid player but he was inconsistent.
Bennerman had the potential to be a great player but he was held back under Herb's system.
Brackman played horribly last year due to injury and asthma.
Simmons was an incredible talent but he was so underutilized in Herb's system its not even funny. What, we are doomed without a 6'11 post player roaming the perimeter and getting in foul trouble defensively???
You mean to tell me that these five players and a hard headed coach are gonna be the difference between top tier ACC team and cellar dweller? Please. Duke was essentially a two man team last year and they lost them BOTH. Then you add in the loss of their best ball handler (Dockery) and an injury to their only PG (that little white faggot that wears timbalands). So why isn't the sky falling in Durham too?
What the FUCK is wrong with our lineup Atsur, Fells, Grant, Costner, McCauley? There is no fucking way we finish last. Do people even know that UVA, Clemson, FSU, Wake are in our conference?

yadda yadda i hear every year how good FSU is going to be.
And every year they suck.
They are the Arizona Cardinals of the ACC.
HYPE.
And UVA good lord i cant even remember the last time they made it to the semifinals of the ACC tournament. Id like to think NC State gets enough respect that they aren't picked behind perennial doormats just because they changed coaches.
Last place is absurd.
I don't understand NC State fans. We had a terrible football team on paper and yet we had people clamoring about how we might actually be good.
In basketball we have a decent team on paper and yet everyone thinks we're going to suck.
It's like 2001 all over again.

the only thing i'm really worried about is how a new uptempo offense is gonna go without a good ball handler? we got by with herb's offense cause they shared the ball control duties, but atsur always looked panicked when he had to do it himself. he's not very good as a pg. i know he had a good assist to turnover ratio and all that jazz, but being a primary ball handler in a more traditional offense is entirely different from the princeton-style.

^^the ignorant ones are the people that hated him.
the reality is that he really was a pretty solid post player, but he was plagued by his knee injuries that definitely slowed him some. He probably understood Herb's offense better than any other player that we've had here while we ran it. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better passer among big men as well. His vision and leadership while on the court were his best qualities. And he had spells where he was lights out from behind the arc.
he was a good player for our playing style with Sendek, but he would definitely not fit in with what Lowe will be doing here so it's good he graduated last year.
we definitely won't finish last, but we aren't going to win the conference or anything like that either. i'm expecting us to end up somewhere in the middle of the acc, maybe 5th-10th range with 5th being the highest i see us finishing and 10th the lowest. for the dreamers (read: all state fans), by march we may have had enough time to get used to lowe and his style to have a shot at knocking off some teams in the ACC tournament. I think we'll have to win it if we have any NCAA hopes this season.
depending on how we round out the 2007 class we may have a shot at making it on our own that year. 10/23/2006 7:57:05 PM |
