^ thats your own dumb fault for not going there for a week on a free trial membership. Parking at the peak off of glenwood is a fucking bitch around 5 up until around 7:30 7/26/2007 10:55:14 PM |

I go to Peak and love it. I use the downtown, falls and duraleigh locations and I am quite pleased. My only disappointment is that the one pool they have in Raleigh is too small for swimming laps.
The only problem I've had was with the company that manages their trainers. The gym itself is nice. 7/27/2007 7:41:12 AM |

I've had no problems with the Peak Fitness Downtown. It's in a much, much better condition than the old Beyond Fitness I went to. They've got a pretty decent amount of free weights, it does get a little bit crowded around 5pm - 6pm, but you're never really waiting very long to use something and you can generally work in with most people there. Not really a ton of dip belts, but I've seen a number of people using medicine balls, so I'm sure there are a decent amount of them floating around.
As far as parking is concerned near 5 are concerned, it's a popular gym in downtown Raleigh, so while spots directly next to the gym aren't plentiful, you can generally find parking within a block or two. I never have an issue. 7/27/2007 8:20:04 AM |

Fitness 19 on the corner of High House Rd and Cary Parkway opened up earlier this year. It's great. Lots of treadmills, bikes, and elliptical machines plus a ton of different weight machines. Plenty of free weights and cable setups too. You almost never have to wait for a machine. The only possible issue is it doesn't have showers, but it's only five minutes from my house anyway. 7/27/2007 8:30:13 AM |

^^don't expect it to stay like that.
If you want a clean gym that doesn't get very crowded, then go to Golds or one of the newer gyms like Lifetime. You'll get what you pay for. 7/27/2007 8:37:34 AM |

i also go to peak downtown. they used to have a really big parking lot but its now one of the many new condos they're building downtown. i don't think parking is too bad....i normally park in the creamery lot on West and Johnson and it's 1 block to walk. 7/27/2007 8:47:57 AM |

Its gotten progressively better and better since I've been going there, so I'm not too worried.

I used to park down there until they closed part of West. Now that it's reopened it's a lot more convenient to get to.

i had a membership at gold's in north hills this summer and loved it.
if you're a student, a three month membership is $180, plus you get three free personal training sessions. i didn't really know how to put a solid workout routine together, and the three sessions helped out immensely. i lost ten pounds and one percent of body fat in four weeks at the beginning.
they have tons of cardio machines and weight training machines, so there's no waiting for machines. there are also all kinds of classes throughout the week, like yoga and aerobics, etc. they have a pool, steam room, and a movie theater full of cardio machines so you can watch a movie while you run/ride a bike/whatever. highly recommended. 7/30/2007 5:11:08 PM |

I love the cardio cinema when they have a good movie playing, because I lose track of time and zone out doing cardio for the length of a movie.
They also have personal TVs on a lot of the cardio equipment, so you can watch whatever you want. I think there is a way to hook up a video Ipod into them and watch what you bring in. 7/30/2007 5:28:10 PM |

I've been at O2 in Cary for about a year now. I love it. They have a pretty good corporate discount if you work at State or any of the state schools. I pay $38/month. 8/1/2007 3:16:42 PM |

PEAK Downtown has great equipment IMO. But I've been working out at MacGregor PEAK lately due to convenience and 2 out of 3 guys who lift at the one downtown are overly "friendly" which doesn't sit well with me when I'm trying to work out and dudes keep eyeing me. I'm joining the new Lifetime gym in Cary next. 8/2/2007 1:04:07 AM |

spooky, look at Gold's. They have a location in Cary off of Kildaire/Cary Parkway, as well as the North Hills location which is just off the beltline and less than 5 miles from downtown/campus.
Its not the cheapest at $45 per month, but its been well worth it. Always very clean, plentiful cardio and weight equipment so that there is never a wait, even at peak hours, pool, sauna/jacuzzi, cardio cinema which rocks, basketball courts, and tons of classes (which I have never used).
Not on the cheap, but $50 bucks a month is well spent if you actually use it. 8/2/2007 3:37:05 PM |

you can pay more up front to reduce on the monthly dues at Gold's. this is a good option if you know you're going to keep a gym membership there for a year or more. 8/2/2007 4:23:28 PM |
