Most "consumer" cameras that offer over 6MP don't seem to add anything with those extra pixels. I mean, they throw on more pixels without improving the sensor... so you could get just about the same quality print with varying pixel amounts. I would prefer color accuracy over pixels.

If you are just a point-and-click kind of guy and want something for indoor shots, I'm afraid most pocket cameras give crappy low light response. I ended up going with the Fujifilm FinePix F30 because it is the only camera I've seen that gets 3200ISO at that size and price.

If you're willing to go semi-pro, the established favorite is the Canon Digital Rebel... although Nikon makes some good competition. I haven't checked out Sony's new dSLR line, but it might be worth checking out.

I'd go Canon all the way. If the specs are similar and you like the form factor of the Canon I'd go for that. I have never been impressed with the image quality of any Casio. Too much noise.
