I agree with xvang on this point. You really need to look at the history of Asia and the Buddhist religion before you make sweeping statements like this. Buddhism has a long track record of corruption, political meddling, and violence. The only reason you don't see much of it these days is that many of its traditional strongholds were overrun by communist governments which snuffed them out with state-imposed atheism.
If you need a modern example of violent Buddhist governments, then I submit to you the case of Sri Lanka, where a Buddhist government in a majority Buddhist state is listed as committed atrocities and brutally attempting to suppress their Islamic Tamil minority.10/31/2006 9:07:16 AM |

Greco-Roman Polytheism. Works with democracy. Works with western civilization. Is tolerant of and takes in major gods from other religions. Polytheism. Good for you. Good for America. this ad was paid for by no one, otherwise it would have been better 10/31/2006 11:34:52 AM |

Why have one wife, when you can have wives? Less is more? I think not. In today's day and age, more is more, and Americans above all else can appreciate the fact that bigger... really is better. However, that does not mean our wives can be fat, no fatties. Amen. 10/31/2006 11:38:13 AM |

what kills me is saying that scientology is the dumbest. they are all equal as far as i'm concerned. in fact, regarding the bullshit each one spews, i dont' see how scientology isn't just as probable as the other tripe 10/31/2006 4:45:20 PM |

Cherokee, if you don't think Scientology is the dumbest, you got real problems my friend.
I mean, they can all be as equally far fetched (though I disagree) with Scientology still being the dumbest.
Most of the major ones are about verified people that existed. Siddhartha/Buddha, Moses(?), Jesus Christ, Mohammad. Hinduism is a little different in this regard so I say it ties Scientology, but any religion that won't tell you its beliefs until you join up is crazy. Especially when you finally get to the beliefs and it starts with "So these aliens came to Earth in DC-9-like spacecraft..." 10/31/2006 5:18:12 PM |

because as far as religions go, spirits coming out of spaceships that look like boeings and then going into the earth then being spewed out of volcanos or whatever is still really crazy. perhaps only slightly more than mormonism. 10/31/2006 5:19:38 PM |

hehe you are proving 2 points of mine:
1) SOME are based on HUMAN events, nothing at all indicating the existance of god 2) not all of them are proven to even have existed, as denoted by your ? next to moses, also denoted by listing jesus, a character not proven to have actually existed

I'm not sure if you meant this to be ironic for some reason, but modern Judaism, by and large, doesn't really encourage conversion.

Wouldn't the world be a great place if people used their brains to make decisions rather than supporting their decisions with ancient religious texts that are outdated and irrelevant in today's society? I'm sorry, but I can't accept "because it says in the bible/other religious text" as a reason for anything. 11/1/2006 1:30:19 AM |

I totally agree. But that will never happen while so many people base their beliefs about life in religion. Religions are too different for anyone to ever treat eachother with respect. I feel that religion should be completely personal.

The problem with it being completely personal is that it would discourage people from talking about thier religion to others and would possibly deprive someone of experiencing a religion that might actually suit them better then their current one. 11/2/2006 12:33:40 AM |
