You're not going to die. Don't say that. But whatever you get in pink better be hot pink, with a million reflectors.

^^There's always the chance of some idiot taking you out, but you can lower your chances by wearing proper gear, riding in groups, and most of all being extremely alert.

I bet they told you this in MSF, but ride like nobody can see you and assume everyone is going to do the absolute stupidest thing they could possibly do at all times. Cover your breaks (keep two fingers over the brake lever) around town, and start slowing down anytime you see a car come up to a cross road. It's saved my butt several times.

I hope BigBlueRam is alright. I've never met him, but when you start riding anytime you see a rider get hurt it's like a family member getting f'ed up, ya know?

It's true. I've locked the bike down twice from douche bags pulling out infront of me.

to protect my ass on the street, im geared up and i ride with my high beam on all the time, cept when i pull up at a stop light behind a car at night

otherwise i turn it right back on when the light goes green. i dont give a shit they are blinded, at least they can see me.

one of my worst fears is a car pulling out in front of me, so i usually ride in the most left lane if it is a 4 lane road (2 each way). this protects you from ppl pullin' out a gives a lil advance warning if they decided to take a lazy turn and come all the way out.

other than that i always cover my front break and im always on the watch for someone who can hit me. if im cruizing with some cars in traffic ill always watch their front wheels read to see them turn and ill instinctively lean outta their way.

i also ride aggressively

for example when someone is on my ass ill look back at them repeatedly until they get the idea, or throw my bike in left and right leans, within my lane, which almost always makes them back off.

if someone does cut me off ill yell the shit outta them at the next stop light and if their window is up ill back it with my titanium gauntlets

also i will make sure i get out ahead from lights away from packs of cruizing cars. it's always better to go faster than slower, you dont want to be rear ended and this means you only have to worry about the shit in front of you. also constantly watch ur mirrors, my fav to watch is my left one but it varies upon ppl.

i suggest everyone rides with high beams on at all times though.

he didnt stand a chance of evading this one, because car hit him straight in the side, not pulled in front of him. i was glad to see today that he is holding up really well and his spirits are high. dude's a soldier for sure.

BBR is tough as nails. He's going better than ANYone could possibly hope for right now.

And fj40 has a lot of similar tactics to my own. Make your presence KNOWN at all times. I'm too damn tired to type anymore and add my own methods of safe riding. Been a lonnnnnnng fucking week. I'm exhausted. Time to hit the sack.

yea kyle i do pretty much the same thing. just remember, sometimes it pays off to hit the gas instead of the brakes

Yup, I'm always either slowing down or speeding up to minimize certain potential hazzards. And I use other cars as "blockers".

funny you say that, so do i, say taking a left turn where you have to yield to oncoming traffic, i turn on the inside of the car that's in front of me, so if anything they get hit and i'll have plenty of time to hit the gas and complete the turn

well you gotta remember most of all of us ride the same. i only usually go riding with you guys, and when i got my first bike it was with you guys so i picked up on your survival tactics. yep hitting the gas many times is a lot better than throwin the gas on.

Riding/following another vehicle down the road and you see an oncoming vehicle that is going to turn left across your lane of travel...speed up and get on the bumper of the car ahead of you. The left-turning vehicle then has NO chance of turning in front of you.

I guess BBR's wreck is what spawned the "Motorcycle Vigilantes" thread. It sucks to get taken out, but it is really bad when you have no control over the situation. Hope he gets well soon.

After surgery today, it looks like he gets to keep it. Still not 100% sure, but they are going ahead with plans for reconstructive surgery. I'd say that's a pretty good sign. Should have him out of the hospital by Wednesday or so if things continue to go well.

Morphine has turned that guy into a f'n comedian.
