^^Not ER (Eastern Randolph), I went to ER; it was Eastern Guilford.

And I dont spend alot of time in Asheboro, but being from outside there; I think you people have been a little harsh on it. But, thats TWW for ya, nothing compares to Raleigh or some other big city and they cant put comparrisons out of their mind for one minute to give a non-senecal view on something. And heaven forbid anything from even a partially rural setting be anything more than trash, hick, or redneck.

Well, that's how it works. You're able to effectively assess how good or how bad a town is by comparing it to other places you know about. The assessment of Asheboro being a dead end town, or a bedroom community to Greensboro at best, is pretty fair. You really would have a hard time of being gainfully employed and making a good career for yourself in Asheboro.

Though this can be said of any rural town.

If jobs aren't your concern then there are plenty other rural settings I'd rather live in.

What I'm saying is that it depends on what youre looking for. Of course, it dont compare to Raleigh in alcohol, night life, SOME jobs...but it does have great schools, a good place for a family, within commuting range of bigger cities, nice areas to live, safe, and only one "bad side of town" (Presnell St.).

I went to ER. I wouldn't call it a great school. It may have changed between the time I was there and the time you went there but I'd compare any Randolph Co. high school to a Wake Co. middle school. They never really challenged their students and the facilities were way behind (computers) as compared to other schools.

Its a false dichotomy to think that the only lively art/music scene with open minded people are in big, fast paced, cities & that the only rural setting has to be weighed against the inevitable close minded dying small town atmosphere.

You're 10 years older than me...alot has changed. (no offense intended) When I graduated in 2004, they had just gotten all new computers at ER, and we were around the last in RC to get them. We were always exemplary for test scores, not just ER but other Randolph County schools as well. I'm not saying the Randolph County Schools are the best by any means, but they're not shabby at all. Crime is low, classes are small, and each school has some different specialty to offer...although ER has more than one (Agriculture, band, nursing stuff, and college prep).

I graduated from SWR...went to the track last night(havent been in NC for 18 months) and wow, it has changed...they have a soccer field behind the football field, have a "new" scoreboard, some funky looking metal things in each endzone(not sure what they are). Beside the soccer field, they have goats(yeah, goats) about 15 of them. Everything is all cleared out, no more trees, hill, etc, seperating the middle school and high school.

that's good to hear because SWR's track used to be horrible. That was such a run down place. I'm not too sure about the goats though
