^preach it
who has the slowest e30 here?
does JonHGuth still have that eta? That'd probably be well up there in the runnings...

Mine is the 89 325i with a slushbox. Probably still faster than the 325e models.

Something is going on with my kickdown cable. Shifts fine when you press it down far enough to engage the kickdown, but I have to let up on the throttle just a tad after the first shift with the kickdown cable engaged or else it doesn't shift again (and it nails the engine to the rev limiter in the process.) It's weird. I don't think it is a tranny issue though because it shifts very well in every gear at any RPM.

But really, I've called on 2 more that were already sold... Anybody know one for sale? Already built, somewhat modified or just stock. All I ask for is a good deal.

Thanks for the heads up cally wally. I somehow can't get warmed up to that car. 1 out of 4 that I'm passing on isn't bad though. Now if I could just find another one...

Pretty sure we've all owned e30s before. Either way, much of the appeal is to have people you know doing track events in similar cars...

I removed all the "tar" from my trunk several months ago and its sat around my room in a box waiting for me to get a scale to measure it. By removing both layers a total of 53 lbs came out of the cars trunk! A nice weight reduction in an already light car.

Removing trunk tar, A/C, and the full-size spare drops a good bit of weight on these cars.

I'd be interested to see what my car weighs in at- considering the mild track prep.

by earlier do you mean the e21 '75-'83 or e30 '84-'91?
You see an e21 or so every once in awhile at the track. Unless they have an engine transplant, they're probably going to be the slowest thing on track, and finding parts/replacements would probably be a problem. Might be a cool track rat candidate- I know one of the senior nasa instructors has one.

E30s are great track rats. Ubiquitous and cheap parts, donor cars, and lots of great resources/advice. They're not as popular at autox as they used to be, but they're still a mainstay of most HPDE organizations. Spece30 (the race class) seems to be as popular now as ever. Let me know if you have any questions about them! I'll post pics of my car after we take a few at VIR this weekend.

not long. i just used a flat head screw driver and pried the stuff out. if i was lucky, i could get a nice chunk going and pull back on it to push the screw driver deeper. i suggest wearing gloves because that shit is sticky as hell.

Anybody got a spare tire/rim with at least 15% tread? I have no spare tire. Trying to spend around $20.

What other car wheels can I use as a spare? Would a steelie 4x100 from a Civic fit or would the backspacing be wrong?

PS: It's true, I whine way too much. I'm spoiled, and my means cannot keep up with my
taste/preferences, which is too bad. E30s are still awesome, and I cry a little every time
I see a cool one.

finally got both ric0r seats and harnesses installed. pain in the ass. of course nothing i bought worked so i had to modify all sorts of shit. i still need to have someone (gk2004?) modify my seat bracket to lower it. i replaced the sliders w/ steel strips, but it still not quite low enough.

her maiden voyage is tomorrow's autox testntune. hopefully itll keep together

The last e36 I was in had weird seats that weren't supportive at all:

I mean, the driver was practically on me, and I was touching grass...

And the trunk openning was annoyingly small too;

But at least the trunk lid wouldn't get in the way:

I really should just get an e30.

it was alright. i ran till i was about nausious. the car didnt fall apart so thats a plus.

i need sway bars. the weight transfer was so slow my steering was like perfectly out of phase w/ the car's movement in slolums. ha

i also need to work on my seat. its still a bit too high and i would like the steering wheel closer. I'm gonna have to mod these brackets (already sliderless) like me and gk2004 did on my old brackets. my legs are good so id like to move the steering wheel closer. i wonder if theres such a thing as a spacer that works w/ a stock wheel.

oh and the car rotates VERY well. i never drifted and countersteered so much in my life.. it might be hairy on the track .

but all in all, a very fun little car.

oh, and my LSD seems to be working great. it got tested pretty hard in the dry and wet yesterday. woot.
