Its sad that a store like tweeter has just as poor a video distribution center as best buy. I didnt honestly think it could get worse. To top it off they seem to make a living off selling pioneer elite equipment. Their home theater room (cary nc) is one of the worse projection setups ive ever viewed.

I love my 37" 1080p LCD... Love... I was watching the original matrix on it from my 360(upscales to 1080p) and I had just finished one of my sub projects and was testing it out with my 5.1... I found my self giggling like a schoolgirl several times through the movie on how sweet it all was...

I actually worked for the Cary store for a little over a year. We had that argument with corporate the entire time I was there. You're right - the theater room is one of the worst in existence.

The video distribution is another beast. The store is actually equipped with some decent gear, but the electrical causes that annoying purple bar to scroll through every TV in the store. We tried many things to correct it, but to no avail...

Of course they're going to sell Pioneer Elite plasmas - there are two reasons this makes sense:

1) They're commissioned salesmen, and the Pioneer Elites carry more profit than any other plasma in the store.

2) The Pioneer Elites are the best plasmas that Tweeter offers. What salesman wants to sit around and sell the same old crap everyone else is? (i.e. Panasonic, Samsung, etc.) Tweeter is not a volume store, so one can't make the argument that they would make more money by taking the easy sale. The Panasonic 42" that was going for $999 on Black Friday (in the morning) would pay a Tweeter associate maybe $5 of commission, vs. an Elite packing about $200... I'd walk 30 bargain-hunters to land one Elite sale - wouldn't you?

Honestly, I haven't sat in either one, but since the 075 is at the top of their home theater section of their website, I have to believe it is better. Also, are you talking about the 083, or "088"? I don't see the 083 on their website. Not that it would matter, regardless, since I haven't sat in either of the two you're looking at.

I do, indeed, sell the product, and my partner in Ohio might be a bit better versed on which line is best for what, etc.

My favorite product right now is the Pioneer Industrial Plasma with a Key Digital video processor. Unfortunately, since I don't have a multi-million dollar showroom, I'm not really moving a whole lot of furniture, but I know a damn fine plasma display when I see one...

Hey customwired,

I am moving into a new home and if you were anywhere close to local i might pay you to run my cables, but since you arent......

The home has hardwoods, on a slab (no crawlspace). Its two stories. In the den, there is a doorway on either side of where the TV/AV equipment are and the hardwood is continuous through the doorway.

How do you recommend getting cables to rear speakers? Are wireless rear's even an option quality wise?

I would really not like to have to go all the way to the attic from the first floor, then over, then down 2 floors again.....

Thoughts?

They've got a lot bigger problems than just a purple bar on their TVs.

Wireless speakers suck. Pull up the baseboards and break out the drill. Gotta love the builder that doesn't prepare you for surround sound...

I'd like something with a digital cable tuner built in so I can avoid paying for a 2nd box from TWC. Other than that, just looking for something general purpose for the living area. I have a projector setup downstairs with surround sound for more serious DVD viewing and gaming. Upstairs would just be for wife watching DVDs, Nintendo Wii (maybe), and watching TV shows, etc.

So, what are the options I should be looking for? I'd like to get something that's fairly compact. I'm probably going to wait until early January or so to make a final decision, so any input you guys would provide (or just some models I should be comparing against one another) would be great.

i wouldnt spend 1000+ on a tv which will be doing 480p max. you could probably get a nice EDTV plasma for 7-900 at 42". whatever though, not my call. you can get plenty of 32-37" lcd tvs right now for 5-800 as well.

i mean if it sounds really fucking terrible like 200:1 id be worried, but beyond that they all seem to be out of some marketing execs ass.

if i were in your position/price range id go a 720p 32". there are a million diff types on sale this season, but regular and off brands. can get um for 5-7 easy.
