Actually now I think the streaks are very different, and almost equally impressive.

Favre's streak is impressive in that he is lucky enough that he didn't get a major injury and tough enough to shake off minor ones.

Ripkin had to worry about injury less, but the fact that he had the endurance to go out there every day for 16 years is crazy.

ok, i just asked him about it - apparently Kevin Costner and co. were filming the movie 'The Postman' at Ripken's house, and supposedly Ripken came home to find his wife in bed with Kevin Costner, and subsequently whooped Costner's ass

Ripken called ahead to Camden Yards saying that he didn't feel like going in and playing that night, and the Orioles cut off the lights, with the official statement being that there was a 'Lighting Malfunction'... no game was played that evening and the streak was kept alive

I don't know. Favre may get the edge because he's being chased by 300 lb lineman all the time. However, baseball does have some freaky injuries sometimes, so surviving that long should be acknowledged.

In baseball the biggest source of injury is yourself.

Cal Ripken's record is kind of like saying "hey, I played 16 sesons without hurting myself"

Whereas Favre's record is more like saying "hey, I've gone 14 years without someone breaking me in half"

Favre, hands down.

Favre - The only position in baseball that even closely compares to QB is catcher.....and I would still give it to Favre.....Besides the last couple of years have been a bit down.....his stats and longevity make him in my mind the best QB ever !! But to be fair I have been a life long GB fan

Ripken played more than 16 games a season. Favre could take practice off for a week and show up on Sunday. Ripken never did that, for 16 years.

All Ripken did was show up to work 162 times a year without breaking or severely spraining a bone in his body, or calling in sick for the flu over the better part of 16 years.

Most members of the American workforce could pull that off.

Its tough to compare these two streaks.....Cal's is rediculously long in a less physical sport, but he played through some pretty crazy injuries (broken fingers and torn muscles)

Favre's streak is long too and he took more of a beating but had less injuries than Cal....hmmmm

I go with Cal...more production at the end of his streak

Dude, Favre played an entire season with a broken thumb on his throwing hand.

Also, Cal Ripken didn't do shit at the end of his career, whereas the current knocks against Favre all stem from the fact that his team isn't very good.

I think you are comparing two different things, but if I had to choose I'd go with Favre. I played football and baseball in high school and I'd have to say my body was more worn out after football season. Granted, our baseball season wasn't nearly as long as MLB, but football in the NFL is A LOT more physical than high school football. Either way it is two very impressive records.

Why are we comparing these two streaks? They are two of the greatest streaks in sports hands down.

Football is more demanding, Baseball plays 164 games per year.

No one is even CLOSE to Ripken. No one is CLOSE to Favre either.


You can't really compare the two.

Something like 75% of baseball is standing in place or sitting in the dugout.

There are people who go to work 5 days a week for 200+ days a week that do more physically demanding things than Cal Ripken did and I'm certain many of them could do it for 16 years straight.

Because, again, it's not like anyone was actively trying to kill him.
