Quality flick.

There were a number of ways that this could've gone way cheeseball by accident and it never did. Sure, the dialogue got a little clunky at times (excluding the characterization-intensive choices made with the dialogue, it's just a bit not-preachy-but-speechy here and there) but the relationships are all pretty well developed and everything fits together well. There were some nice stylistic flourishes during the fight scene that I wasn't expecting.

If you're a fan of Rocky or the inspirational sports film genre, you'll like this one. If you go in expecting something different, you might be disappointed, but I'd say it's better than at least half of the movies you could go see in the same multiplex today.

Umm...okay?

I didn't copy the synopsis, but it's pretty hard to say something original about a film with few outright flaws that we knew the plot of 30 years ago.

Plus, "multiplex" is fun to both say and type. Just like "fanciful" and "Yakostonisian."

I mean, on RT there are two reviews that use the same bad joke right next to each other, but one has hyphens and the other's in parentheses. It's not like we're talking about 2001 here and one person think it's brilliant while the other fell asleep during the overture.

I also refuse to believe that any writer with gainful employment of the sort that would facilitate internet publication would actually write "not-preachy-but-speechy."

I saw it last night. Wasn't bad. It was pretty slow in the beginning, and the lead up to the fight wasn't nearly as long as it was in the other movies. Seemed like it all happened too quickly at the end. Either way, its better than Rocky 5.

If you're a Rocky fan, go check it out. Man, now I really want to go see the other ones...

^ It wasn't as long as the second Clubber fight in Rocky 3? That lasted THREE rounds. And didn't his first fight with Clubber only last 2?

I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know.

And maybe you meant it was 6-7 rounds but they sped through it.

All I know, is that looking at some of the pictures online, that is one man I never want to see with his shirt off again, lol

^why do you have to spoil that for everyone who hasn't seen it? That caught me totally off guard. It was fucking awesome.

Loved the movie. Great fight, up the the high standards of III and IV. Adrian being dead was great, I'd rather have constant visits to her grave than listen to all her whiny shit. Fitting end to the series( FUCK ROCKY V).

OK, this may be bordering on the grotesque, but the way it was explained to me by the writer is you hold two seashells like chopsticks, pull gently and scrape what’s left with the third. You asked for it…. Be careful what you ask for, sorry."

without having seen the 3rd one, these are my rankings:

1a. Rocky 4
1b. Rocky Balboa
3. Rocky 2
4. Rocky
5. Rocky 5

from talking to a friend, i'd probably wind up putting 3 somewhere between 1st and 3rd, but i know rocky balboa has to be in the top 3

3 had the best trash talking
4 had the best training, best fight sequence, best score (Vince DiCola, FTW), and least dialogue.

what's with all this II ahead of I stuff? Rocky II absolutely blew until Adrian came out of the coma(with the notable exception of "In the afternoon, I put it on, to go out with the guys, for a rendezvou). Is this all just the difference between beating Apollo and "going the distance"?

This was on par with the V. Pretty inspirational and brought life lessons to the forefront but other than that this movie wasn't all that great. I thought it was great to see the clashing of the generations. I hate alot about our generations attitude towards things though.

II
I

III
VI

i liked it, but Mason wasn't ANYWHERE near the awesomeness of Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago, or Clubber Lang

they should have gone with an actor, not a boxer to make the character better

no i'll give you that one. you probably are an expert at spewing shit.

my point was: you don't just proclaim yourself a movie guru. it will rightly just end up getting you harrassed.

i guarantee you there are MANY people who know far more about movies on this board (hell probably even in this thread) so don't act like you're something special. it won't make your opinion any more valid.
