need more discussion. if we build up some excitement for this and the crowd brings their A game, then i could see us willing the team to a win over a Top-10 team. when i saw the schedule i was really excited about this game, but then later i realized that i would probably not be able to go. i have graduation all day on Wed. the big one early in the morning. the biochem departmental graduation at 1:30 then the microbiology departmental graduation at 4:30. i probably would get out of that around 6, then be hungry as fuck and my family will want to go out to dinner at a nice restaurant to commemorate the occasion (i'm the first in my family to graduate from college). plus my brother and sister-in-law for some reason are coming down today but are leaving back to Charlotte tomorrow. it really doesn't make sense to me, especially when my parents offered to have them stay in a room next to them at the hotel for both nights. while my parents would love to go to the game, my brother and sister-in-law wouldn't b/c they want to get back on the road as soon as possible. i'm so mad that i'm going to miss this game. hopefully we'll go somewhere where the game is on.

predictions:
if the crowd shows up
Bama - 74
State - 79

if the crowd sucks
Bama - 80
State - 68

We had a great crowd last year during the break for GW. I'm thinking it'll be fairly similar for this game.

It'll be my first game of the season.

i thought it was well known that since the semester is over Ferg can play
Even so, Sidney confirmed that Fergy would be in and Engin would be play also

the only thing im worried about is game time chemistry

What's the deal with this? Is it on any of the Fox College Sports channel? I'm leaving work early tomorrow for it so I hope it's on TV out here somewhere.. (I guess I can go to happy hour to watch it?)

V I'm in California.. I know it's on FSN in Raleigh but every game on there has also been on the FCS Atlantic channel out here. This one isn't listed on TV Guide but neither were the past ones..

^excellent contribution

I would love to go to this game but I have to work. It would be really nice to be able to pull this one out. If our team could come together and get a win here it would do wonders for the rest of the season. Michigan was a good confidence boost, but this would show our guys that they can compete with anyone if they play they're best.

from state fans, maybe a little optomistic but somewhat accurate

Quote :
"With all of this on the table, this five-game stretch prior to the start of the conference season is pivotal to setting the stage for the rest of the year. It breaks down like this:

- 5-0 and fans can legitimately shift their conversations from aiming for the NIT (with a 15-14 record) to aiming for the NCAA. State would be 12-2 with two very big wins vs Michigan and Alabama.

- 4-1 (11-3 overall) would keep fans hope for an NCAA Tournament bubble appearance alive for another couple of weeks. State’s strong play against Michigan and Virginia generates excitement for the Alabama game and Cincinnati’s early struggles gives the Pack hope on the road this weekend. The Pack would definitely have to finish at least 7-9 in conference play (potentially 8-8) for NCAA dreams.

- Before the season, a 3-2 mark would have been the hope/expectation for this stretch. Because of the Michigan win, a 10-4 overall mark prior to January 6th would keep some NCAA hopes alive but would more prominently place the Pack in solid contention to qualify for the NIT with a 15-14 (or better) overall record at the end of the year.

- Anything worse than a 3-2 mark in the next 5 game run would relegate hopes for the season much closer to what was expected heading into the year.

actually if we go 0-5 over the next 5 games as opposed to 5-0 i think it will help determine quite a bit.

it just is saying how the next 5 games will affect what state fans will be thinking about long term for this season

it's not saying that winning the 5 means we are in the NCAA tourney

Its stupid cuz its saying the more games we win the more likely we are to make the tourney and the more we lose the less likely we are to make the tourney in a fancy way. DUR

i dont see why they singled out those 5 games inparticular, but our performance during them will matter.

State fans also reporting that Atsur is likely a no-go for this game.

Apparently he had a bad practice and wasn't 100%.

pile on to the stupidity.

if we beat alabama then we will do a hell of a lot better than 8-8 in ACC play.
if we play them close, like I expect, we will have to fight for every ACC win possible, which is to say that if we were in the Big Ten we would be conference champs
if we lose big then its a tough home loss to a top 10 team. big deal

no matter what, its not the end of the world

If we are a bubble team with wins over Michigan and Bama, that'll get us in. It only matters what we do the next 5 games if we can win 7-8 games in the ACC.

b/c this last stretch is the primer for the team before real ACC games start up.
these 5 games will allow the "new" team to gell and become a more cohesive unit on the floor.

we should at least finish this run at 4-1 but dont get mad if we wind up 3-2.
5-0 would be awesome and its achievable. a win agains top 10 Alabama would be huge for our NCAA chances if we finish strong [all pending the conference record]

I think we should worry about our chances. I mean why shouldn' we? The season has just begun and there is a lot of playing left to do. It's true that we are a young team with basicly no experience and a new coach. However, we do have fairly talented players and a bench is only going to grow with Atsur comming back and with ferguson finally being eligble. I dont see why we cant finish out these last 5 games for conference play at least 5-1 if not 5-0. We will certianly win at least half of our conference games. We will be on the bubble for sure and maybe just maybe make it to the dance. gotta have hope......GO PACK!!!!!!

Alabama is vastly overrated just like every other year...weren't they ranked when we went down there and won despite all the calls at the end to help them out?

I still have a bad feeling about this game without Engin.

I say we lose close by 8 or so. Bama 74 State 66.

10 hours to tip. I can't wait to see how this turns out. I think we pull it out as long as we can get some semblance of player rotation going.

if atsur and ferguson can both contribute effectively tonight we should be able to go to an 8 man rotation of Grant, Atsur, Ferguson, Fells, McCauley, Costner, Horner and Neiman. Horner and Neiman have both already shown they can be significant role players in the offense. Running 8 should prevent some of the fatigue issues down the stretch and let Grant and Fells run wide open while they're in the game. I think it'll be an exciting game.

I wish Atsur were playing tonight... then I'd give us a slight chance.

As it is now, I don't think we have anyone to keep up with and defend Steele. Our 'guards'... or rather who we have playing guards, don't have the speed he has.

Looks like we'll be playing some zone tonight, IMO..especially if he gets hot

The word from all the media outlets is that Atsur is playing tonight..... I know media can be misleading, but for a pull he's been out for about long enough.

Where are yall getting this info that he isn't playing tonight?

for what its worth, this is from the lead story on gopack.com:

Quote :
"Both teams have issues at the point guard position. Lowe said on Monday night that Engin Atsur will miss his fourth straight game because of a pulled hamstring. In Atsur’s absence, the Wolfpack has been forced to use small forward Gavin Grant at the point.

....

Even though Atsur will not be available on Wednesday, the Wolfpack will have the luxury of stretching its rotation to seven players since Pittsburgh transfer Trevor Ferguson will be eligible to play for the fist time after sitting out for a year.

acc play is 100 times more important than this game.

i would rather have atsur 100% healthy for ACC play than have him at 75% for this and watch him get injured again and be out for half the season because of an out of conference game no one outside of this school expects us to win.
