I got caught downloading Tiger Woods PGA 2007. the ESA sent an email to NC State, I was scared to death. Since it was my first offense nothing happened, I don't use NC State's internet for illegal puposes anymore.

if it was the same torrent, then they'd have your ip no matter what isp you're on. But some ISPs are easier targets than others.

ResNet will sell your ass down the river asap. They dont want you shitting up their network with torrents.

Whereas someone like Road Runner would more likely ignore or dismiss it until they come back with more lawyers. Although they might be more inclined to do something if its a TimeWarner property.

The tv signal is free, but they still own the program and they don't want people distributing it without commercials.

Anyways, I've never received a legal notice for using torrents. I still use BitComet for the program and torrentspy.com for the files.

if you spoof the MAC address for your wireless interface, use an insecure access point and block all outgoing packets on the wireless interface except BitTorrent data it would be fairly unlikely for it to be traced to yourself

I imagine it'd be even less likely if you cracked a secure access point to utilize for BitTorrent, as the owners of the access point would likely have a difficult time proving the traffic did not come from their network

Got a question.

Under Seeds and Peers, it's usually listed something like 10(25) and 10(30), or something to that effect.

What do these numbers mean? I tried to google but didn't really get it explained.

Additionally, for a given torrent, if no seeds exist, is it possible that the torrent is still scattered across all peers...or...does the tracker keep up with how many full copies (thusly, seeds) exist across all peers.

So for example, if computer A has a full copy, a seed, and 2 clients connect to A to start downloading this torrent, for whatever reason, if computer B has 1/2 of the torrent, and computer C has the other half of the torrent, will this count as 2 seeds now (A + B & C together)?

you can have a full copy available with no seeds...one does not "seed" until they have a full copy of whatever it is...i know that utorrent tells you what the availability ratio is (i would assume other clients do this as well, but i don't know)...so you can have no seeds but a 1+ ratio (meaning that 100% of the torrent is available)
