I swichted from TWC to Dish Network last month

ESPN2HD is a bit overrated (at this point). I'd say that 10% of all airtime on the network is non-HD material with the bars on the side. Of course this will chance in the future as HD becomes standard, but as for now, it's not much better than regular ESPN2

Regardless, I'm new to the channel, and it might be worth its weight in gold come march madness, but as for now it's not something to get your panties in a wad over.

While unimpressed with ESPN2HD, ESPNU has been great to have as of late, and the VOOM HD networks make dish worth every penny.

espn2HD this time of year i imagine will be lacking, since all of the bowl games on ESPN have been in HD, they have had to have a few trucks on the move, and anything any good is on ESPN inbetween, in HD.

it'll pick up once there isn't any other football games going on.

10% is nothing really when you think about it...there was a time when people may have had good reason to complain about the lack of HD on these two channels, but that time passed after this past football season. I think ALL NBA, MLB, NFL, and CFB games on both networks are HD now.

Just curious though, how much are you paying for Dish? I know they just changed their price structure according to DBStalk.com.

i'm paying 69 for dish hd gold package

15 for hbo, 5 for locals (which i will get rid of)

so 90 a month for ~30HD channels, and ESPNU - which will feature NCSU vs. UNCG tonight

I use RR Lite... when i heard about it, I switched immediately. RR regular is 45 a month... but 35 if you have digital cable...

RR lite is 25 bucks a month and I cant tell a difference unless i'm downloading a huge file

so overall it's 90+25=115 versus 145 for HD cable with regular RR

not to mention there's a $20/mo promotion for ten months, so it's 95 total for the first ten months - BUT it costs 200 for the DVR, so you really dont get a promotion if you use DVR

if you have HD, you really should consider Dish Network. they offer 29HD channels - and that's not including locals.

I havent had any issues with the rain either, and it's been pretty rainy in the past few weeks

damn, after having DVR for so long I dont think I could make a switch to something without the service

I think our bill now with TWC is somewhere around $115/month, with DVR and without HD

Im guessing you dont live in Raleigh then? Last I checked only NBC and ABC locals were available in HD through Dish for Raleigh. In fact does anyone even offer local CW in HD? Ill have an OTA antenna if I make the move, but the locals does help you be able to DVR two network HD shows at once (without you can only DVR one).

Sorry, a guy that thought he knew what he was talking about (and still does think that) and I actually thought had a clue posted that on AVSforum, and it looked like it was the case. He was wrong unfortunately. And hell, even if there was a deal, who knows if TWC in Raleigh would add it or not...theyve had a deal for over a week for Sinclair owned stations and Ive yet to see CW22-HD added.

ESPN2HD will be offered as a premium package with the rest of the ESPN's whenever TW gets around to getting a contract together. But I repeat, ESPN will then be offered as a package kind of like what HBO, SHOWTIME, ETC are now. you will have to pay extra to get the whole package

^As in if one subscribes only to an extended basic package, they will receive no ESPN channels? NO, that wont happen...not anytime in the near future at least.

i didnt say it would happen any time soon, but when TWC offers all of the espn channels espsn espn2hd espnU etc) they will not be offered on any basic cable service. they will treated as a "movie channel package" is treated now. They basically have a monopoly when it comes to sports channels and they require cable providers to pony up the dough to carry their channels. (esp. rich ones like Time Warner) Not to mention ESPN is owned by Disney which is a competitor of Time Warner. Why else do you think Time Warner cable would allow for their competitors to carry demanded channels like espn2hd and espnU while they don't? ESPN wants them to pay big time $$$$ to provide coverage and usually it fluctuates according to how big the market is (same thing happened with regular ESPNHD)

DirectTV is sounding more and more attractive. Time Warner is the devil. Prices going up.. programming getting worse... Just got a notice in the mail saying my last bill had not been paid even though the check cleared two weeks ago... BEFORE THE DUE DATE!! They are a completely ridiculous company and do not deserve our business. I will be checking into DirectTV very soon.

I know I'm not the only one that would gladly pay extra to get some of these channels...shit my cable bill last month was $250 (although I'm still making payments for NBA League Pass)

If Time Warner says it would be too expensive and some people wouldnt want it/want to pay for it, thats fine...i don't know which asshole company is more stingy...Time Warner or ESPN

I've got Direct TV. Sports package with ESPNU and YES network, as well as all of the FSN channels.......FTW!!!!!

It's the fucking bomb. you get about 25 sports channels for an extra $12 a month.

I watch enough sports to where that is a fucking deal!

Actually it makes perfect sense. No need for to change over graphics when broadcasting multiple events from the same site (such as a conference tournament) or mic flags or whatever. Like it says, it will still be identified as whatever channel it is (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, etc) on the bottomline. They wont call everything ESPN (for example, when they teased our game being on ABC tomorrow during the Duke game last night, they said ABC and put an ABC logo up....not too confusing. Hopefully this will lead to the "Live" bug on ESPNU broadcasts going away (never understood the point of that, its not the local news).
