Andy, the only reason they did that was because they simply couldn't cope with the size change. IE, he went from a gigantic robot to a damn rifle that anybody could hold in their hand? It don't quite work visually, and people that aren't fans of the original would just be confused when he became something small and light enough to fit in your hand.
