Saban didnt do terribly last year...9-7 with no quarterback and a rookie HB was impressive.

This year was terrible, but hopefully we can pick up Cowher.

"

first of all he was in the middle of the season with another team, he had to say that stuff. It's the fucking coaching business. (I COULD GIVE A DAMN ABOUT CAROLINA!!!!! remember that shit? or how bout amato will remain the coach at NC state?) Also I am sure he was not expecting the offer that he got which i am assuming made all of the difference in his decision

i wouldnt call dec. 21st the middle of the season for the miami dolphins, but i somewhat agree with you. coaches have to say that kind of stuff.

Agreed, I am glad we didn't have to deal with Erskine Bowles trying to pull some shady crap about our hiring of O'Brian.

I don't understand it. It's not like he was making a shit salary in Miami, it's pretty much the same exact deal money-wise. He's already been successful in college and he's done a decent job at Miami. If he had a decent quarterback, they'd probably be in the playoffs.

it was no where near the middle of the season and there are different ways to handle it, like "I'm not answering or addressing any questions concerning the Alabama rumors", not "how many times and different ways do I need to say I'm not going to Alabama"

what he did wasn't the typical "coach speak"

It was a pay cut. He'll make $4 mil a year at Alabama, and was due to make $4.5 mil/year with the Dolphins.

How are college hours any less than NFL hours? You play four less games but that month is spent preparing for one game. Not to mention in college you have to go on recruiting trips.

well, HE might have needed the pro experience to realize he preferred college... and I would have Bama slightly above LSU in terms of prestige, not saying LSU isnt really really high, but Bama is at the very top level

I think bare is technically the right one, but the other two are used too, bold is older I think, remember it being in some "classics" I have read

The only one of these spellings recognized by the Oxford English Dictionary as meaning “shameless” is “barefaced.” Etymologies often refer to the prevalence of beards among Renaissance Englishmen, but beards were probably too common to be considered as deceptively concealing. It seems more likely that the term derived from the widespread custom at that time among the upper classes of wearing masks to social occasions where one would rather not be recognized."

there really is no offseason for an nfl coach, if no playoffs, then draft evaluations, mini camps, otas, training camp

i know college coaches work alot of hours, but saban was head coach, and had all gm duties, so he had to work even more hours.....

Seems like a case of "ours schools suck, so we'll blame AU for it"

^ They have a point but it's not really new. Tide fans in general value a winning football team over a decent education. They're no different than the UNC fans that never went to college in this state that think the only reason the Chapel Hill campus exists is to put out a winning basketball team they can cheer for every year. It's nothing new.

This guy thinks the same way and puts it better than I can:

^ That wasn't what I was saying. I was saying that if you took a cross-section of Alabama alums and Alabama residents on what to spend a set amount of money on, football would rank above the academic part of the university as far as priority.

I don't know about that. You could've said the same about LSU. Then Saban jumped from their ship in 2004. What about Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Michigan, USC, or your beloved Tennessee?

SHIT! I'd take a job in Knoxville in a heartbeat for a whole lot less over being in Trailerloosa for a bunch of fans who are mentally retarded (literally).

5 NCAA Titles, playing in 7 championship games in 18 years is pretty big-time. Nouveau Riche of CFB, I guess.

"he is now the Larry Brown of football"

Couldn't have said it better.

Actually, most of the Dolphins fans down here are not sad he is gone and his assistant coaches didn't say much to make the impression that Saban is missed. Fans in Miami are just pissed he snubbed the team. Saban had a worse win percentage than Dave 'Stache and he was volatile. As Don Shula said, he ran away from a challenge.
