Krombacher Pils is the best I've ever tasted. The brewery is near my mother's hometown in Germany, and once a year they have a beer day where the brewery fountain's water supply is switched to beer, where it's free for the public.
I don't think you can get any of the Krombacher line outside of Europe, though. 1/12/2007 1:58:13 PM |

Abita Purple Haze is one of the worst beers I've ever had. That fruity shit just isn't for me, it doesn't taste like beer. Might as well get a damn cocktail. 1/12/2007 4:50:00 PM |

i dont know why, but i used to be the biggest supporter of microbrews and imports when they weren't as popular, and now i just stick to bud light and the shitty beers that don't taste like anything. i just find them easier to drink and less heavy. it's not so much about enjoying the beer anymore for me after all, it's about getting toasted and having fun.

Both types of beers have a time and a place. Nights when I want to have a few good beers and chill you get the good beers, times when you just want to get as drunk as possible or are on a low budget you get the cheap domestics. Personally, I keep both in the fridge now and even when I get old I will always have some cheap beer in the fridge.

if you are looking for something interesting I had this stuff called Abita Purple Haze (I think) at Brixx. Its a wheat bear with a strong raspberry aftertaste. I wouldnt buy a case of it, but if you are looking for a single beer for a mix its a very interesting taste. 1/13/2007 1:14:09 PM |

The truth is until you start to try more beers then you're never gonna figure out what you like.
Of the suggestions here I like many but also dislike some.
It's all personal taste. 1/14/2007 9:43:49 PM |

A stupid tradition but what I typically do:
If I'm drinking at home while watching the game I try to drink a beer that's brewed in the state of one of the teams that is playing. Often if it's a tough choice as to which one to select then I go with the team that I want to win.
It definately helps you to try all kinds of stuff. 1/14/2007 9:47:48 PM |

I'm hoping to get my mitts on some Westervylen, but considering as how you can only buy it in Belgium from the monk's abby...and all distribution is black market because the monks discourage reselling...it's damn near impossible to find here. 1/15/2007 9:48:25 AM |

I've had great experience ordering from BelgianShop. I ordered 4 Westvleteren beers (1 blonde, 1 of the W8, and 2 of the W12). Came out to less than 100 bucks including shipping.
The Westy 12 is THE BEST beer I've ever tasted. I still have one saved up for a rainy day. 1/16/2007 2:00:11 AM |
