dealer offered me $200 over invoice on a new '06 Evo IX. still inclined to buy a used '06 model (15-25k miles or so), but i'm a little tempted.

the markup on the car was very small...like $1000 or so.

the invoice was $30,188...they offered it to me for $30,388. tax/tag/title brings it to $32,710 out the door. more than i want to spend, but the used ones still command big prices...tough to justify upper 20s for a used one with 15k miles.

I, obviously, highly recommend these cars as they are fantastic.

However, you shouldn't buy one if you value luxury items such as heated seats and climate control.

Otherwise, man the fuck up and buy one before you stop caring. There's nothing else at this price point that will touch its performance.

go buy the Evo so we can start our own Evo thread like all the lame BMW ones. We currently have 3 members in the garage with Evos (that i know of) a fourth would make it legal.

Duke, Vishnu is not the best tuning ECU combo to get for the Evo.

You should check out Busher's IX packages as they have proven to be race reliable (road and drag) and are actually offered as dealer add-ons in other parts of the country.

Not to mention, they come with a pretune (although conservative).

Buschur DID get an VIII into the 11s on a stock turbo, but hacking a FULL SECOND off of the 1/4 mile time with just an ECU flash? that's insane. you mean to tell me that Buscher can do even better for the close to the same money? i can't find any dyno or e.t. numbers on Buscher's website.

i also seem to remember Vishnu winning a tuner Evo shootout that I read once.

The VIII and IX are completely different. Rest assured, Buscher tuned cars are much better then Vishnu tuned cars.

I mean, I'm not going to magazine race with you. I'm just relaying what my perception of the general consensus of the EvoM forums are. I think they are a bit more impressive then reading a companies website.

very well, i just couldn't find any numbers on Buscher's website.

i looked in the forums, and Dave Buscher is saying that an air filter + flash is yielding about +60 whp, and that the dealership cannot detect the ECU flash at all. that's a pretty good deal...lot of bang for the buck, and keep the warranty to boot.

can you post links to the forums you're looking at?

beware...most of these people suck at life. all they care about is getting as much power out of their cars as they can so they can pass a civic on the highway quicker. and as you will find out soon, a lot of threads are along the lines of ....'i wrecked my evo but it wasn't my fault'...but turns out they were doing something stupid in it.

check the motorsports section on their site...it has some good info and good posters.

ok, piecing together numbers from Buscher's forums and Vishnu's dyno graphs, there seems to be a considerable disparity between their dynos (quite normal, as an FYI to anyone unaware).

the Vishnu reflash + boost solenoid emulator thingy is making about 270 whp from a stock baseline of about 225 whp. Buscher is reporting increases from a stock baseline of about 200 whp to 260+ whp with his reflash and air filter kit, which actually costs a couple hundred bucks less than the Vishnu deal.

You'll really have to dig through EvoM but Buscher's packages are fairly good deals. The BR330 and BR350 can be tracked very reliably.

I never really read up on Vishnu, but the stuff I did read wasn't very favorable. Again, dig through EvoM. Their search is cryptic, but functional.

Oh and, get an IX

Evo IX, 10k miles, $27000? KBB excellent is $28,500. good is $26875.

man, that's more than i want to spend on a car...but i want an Evo. I wonder how much the prices will drop if I just wait for the '07 models to hit the floors?

and why does the IX seem to respond so much better to the aftermarket than the VIII does? seems that they're almost exactly the same engine.

^is that a private seller or a dealership?

I wouldn't mind a X but i'd stick to a IX for track use...a X just seems more like an M5 vs an M3...M3 would be more fun on track but an M5 would be pimp for street, daily driver use.

(and no i wasn't saying that evo's are anything like BMW's....)

do you know if its been moded before by the previous owner and if the warranty still applies? (not that the warranty is a big deal since mitsu screws so many people out of it lol)

it sounds like a really good deal though....what kind of package is it? IX SSL?

warranty still good; regular Evo IX (no SE/SSL).

how does Mitsu screw people out of the warranty? what kind of stuff gets denied or voids it?

they're known to give Evo owners a hard time because of its rep as being a good 'modded' car. EvoM has tons of nightmare stories about stuff like that. I have yet to need any warranty work done (touch wood) but i'm not looking forward to it if i ever do. They will usually try and pull the "this car has been abused" card or something along those lines. And those that have gotten warranty work done...like caliper replacements have had to wait months for the parts to come in.

oh wait...is it that white one on their website? cause thats hot! White, red and Graphite grey are the best colors for an Evo. Also it looks to be in excellent condition (although its debadged which i don't like that) and the wheels are really nice...better looking than stock enkeis.

he said he'll take $27,500 for the white one (and yeah, i could do without it being debadged...but whatever. it'll make it easier to wax.)

he said he has a grey one that he'll put online this afternoon that he could sell for $27k.

[Edited on January 23, 2007 at 5:12 PM. Reason : he says that white one has HIDs, but i thought they only came with SE, SSL, and MR]

he said he'd take $25k (or was it $27k?) for the modded black STi on there, too...but I think I'd rather just go with a IX and flash it, put an intake on it, and maybe an exhaust (so I can keep that warranty and not have the headaches of a modded car)

I LOVE evos, but honestly if you plan on shelling out $27k, you might as well bid on this or just "buy it now". Insurance on EVO will run you the same, if not more and maintenance is probably the same if not more.

^now thats hot...but I'd take the evo over the M3 because its more practical. don't you have a kid duke? cause Baby seats in the Evo is no problem. plus the trunk is nice and big...and you have plenty of back seat room....even more so than a 4door E36 M3...and 3inches more leg room than a STi.

TheDuke:

The IX motor is somewhat different the the Evo 8. Mitsu slightly increased the size of the turbo, put on beefier fuel injectors, and added its own Variable Valve Timing and I think, but probably am wrong, a slightly larger throttle body. All this makes the motor easier to 'soft' mod through ECU tuning rather then hard mod like the 8, which required new fuel injectors fairly early in the process.

^^ ahh, i thought it was just the MIVEC thing and some little tweak to the exit on the compressor side of the turbo housing or something.

^ the E46 is a sweet, sweet, ride, but i can sell it for a substantial profit, and i want something more balls-out performance oriented again...i tried to do the grown up thing and get a reasonable car, but i'm just not cut out for it. plus, i'm moving to Washington state, so the AWD will be nice, and ability to carry my skiing gear (and install/remove a baby seat without flipping seats up and crawling around in the back) will be nice.

^definitly the Evo. like i said...it has a lot more leg room. Also i hope you are planning on putting your skies on top of the car cause the evo and sti seats don't fold down thats my biggest drawback with those cars. but then again how often will I ever use that anyway.

no way...i want a track mule. in that class, i'd get an M3 and say to hell with the AWD. i won't need it that much. the S4 isn't that much different from what i have now...just a lot more expensive.

i want balls out, no holds barred, totally performance oriented...with a warranty so i can drive the shit out of it and not worry about it.

don't get me wrong, i'm not hating on the 330ci...it's a fantastic automobile...but i need some testosterone and adrenaline in my diet BADLY.

Don't be so sure about that warranty man...here's a quote from Killboy.com:
Quote :
"I probably won't be out in the Evo either way for a few weeks, because the transfer case is making some noise so I'm going to have it rebuilt by Shep Racing. I tried to get it repaired under warranty, but Mitsubishi refused to cover it saying the car had been modified. (no mods to the drive train) Apparently if you put ANYTHING on a Mitsubishi vehicle, they use that as a way out of fixing anything that goes wrong.

Best backed cars in America my ass. Mitsubishi service sux."

One of the other Evo guys on here might have a better opinion, I just remembered reading that on Killboy (he's the Dragon photographer guy for those of you that don't know who he is)

i'll probably just flash the ECU (by all accounts, Mitsu can't tell) and pop an intake on it. at most, i'll put an exhaust on it and keep the stock stuff. if i break anything and it's questionable whether or not Mitsu will cover it, i'll just put the stock stuff back on before I take it in.

hey, the white Evo at http://www.auto-spectrum.com that I mentioned before...can anyone eyeball the pics and tell me if it has HID lights? The dealer says it does, but I was under the impression that only the Evo MR and sun/sound/leather equipped cars had HID, and this car has neither leather nor the Infinity stereo.
