Since 1996 when the Yankee's have won the world series their average payroll is right at 74M. The years they have not won the world series their average payroll is 148M. Twice as much money on average and no championships.
The Florida Marlins two world series wins had a combined payroll of 96.5M
Interesting stuff. 1/31/2007 1:05:42 PM |

I have to travel to the burgh quite a bit on business....my boss is there. And I try to go to Pirate games whenever I am there during the season. It is a great park, and I have actually eaten at that outback you referred to.....A good Steak, A couple beers, and baseball....It don't get much better than that 1/31/2007 1:28:33 PM |

No doubt.. I lived there for portions of the past two seasons. It's a great place to watch a game. Not hard to get tickets either. I could get online the day of the game most of the time and get tickets 10 rows from the field right behind the bases. Too bad they can't spend the money to compete. 1/31/2007 1:32:24 PM |

I am so sick of hearing about A-rod might opt out of his option year...he has opted out of hitting in the playoffs since he has worn pin stripes so I wish the sports writers would stop acting like he is our savior....Jeez 2/7/2007 8:41:50 PM |

Yeah. Well for all of A-Rod's problems in pinstripes, everyone on here damn well knows the SECOND he goes to another team, he's gonna light up NY everytime he plays them.
I'd almost him rather be a "mediocre" 50-HR guy for us than hit .398 with 68 HRs and 192 RBI for LA (a team God knows gives us fits anyway) or, God forbid, Boston.

How do you like teams if you aren't even from that city? Because you are all fair weather. Everyone likes the Yanks cause they win. Why doesn't anyone from here like the Kansas City Royals? Cause they suck, but if they were good, people would start a thread about them. 2/8/2007 3:34:35 PM |

The power rankings for 2007 are out....look who is on top !!!!
MLB Power Rankings Week Of 02/06/2007 Rk Team Last Wk Rise/Fall High/Low Comment 1 Yankees - - 1/1 Powerhouse offense capable of scoring 1,000 runs on the season, improved rotation, improved right-handed relief corps, decent bench for a change, Mariano Rivera. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 2 Indians - - 2/2 A surprise ranking? Perhaps. But the Tribe returns one of the best offenses in baseball and an underrated rotation. As well, the bullpen, the team's weak point last season, has been significantly upgraded over the winter. Their strong run differential in 2006 also portends a big jump in the standings. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 3 Mets - - 3/3 Without question the class of the NL. The rotation is the soft underbelly, but the Mets have plenty of arms in the mix. The offense is the best in the senior circuit, and Billy Wagner remains an elite, shutdown closer. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 4 Tigers - - 4/4 One-hit wonders? Nope, the Tigers are for real. The offense, even with the addition of Gary Sheffield, might slip a bit, but the rotation will again be exceptional. In particular, Jeremy Bonderman is a stealth Cy Young contender in '07. Deep bullpen, as well. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 5 Red Sox - - 5/5 The Sox have certainly improved themselves over the winter, but keep in mind this is team that posted a negative run differential last season. "Dice K" is the real thing, and Julio Lugo and J.D. Drew both address manifest weaknesses. Because of the strength of AL Central in tandem with the unbalanced schedule, the Sox may be your Wild Card favorites. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 6 White Sox - - 6/6 Expect improvements from Brian Anderson and a better outfield defense with Darin Erstad in the lineup. Jermaine Dye should come back to earth a bit, but this will still be a powerful lineup. It all depends on whether the rotation can bounce back. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 7 Twins - - 7/7 They'll miss Francisco Liriano's innings, and Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau are both primed for minor regressions. Still, they have the best starting pitcher in the game and the best bullpen in the game. The Twins may be the fourth-best team in the AL Central, but they'd easily win the NL Central, NL West and AL West. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 8 Angels - - 8/8 Solid rotation, strong bullpen. Much depends on how the young bats, Howie Kendrick, Mike Napoli and Casey Kotchman, fare and how soon Bartolo Colon is able to return. They look like the narrow favorites in the down-cycled AL West. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 9 Diamondbacks - - 9/9 The Snakes are the team of future in the NL, and that future might just start a year or two ahead of schedule. The NL West is without a truly great team, but it's a very balanced division. The high-ceiling youngsters in tandem with a rotation that's better than you might think give the Snakes the edge. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 10 Athletics - - 10/10 No Zito, no Big Hurt. Yet, the A's soldier on ... Their season, to a large extent, depends upon the ability of Rich Harden to stay healthy and the ability of Mike Piazza to replace Frank Thomas' production. They'll be a winning team, but they'll have a hard time repeating as division champs. Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy 2/11/2007 9:53:51 PM |

Be a Mets fan in the Tri-State area for a week and you'll understand. Not all Yankees fans are like that but the ones that are (and they are plentiful) make you want to see Yankee Stadium crumble to the ground when it is filled.

Yanks looked good today in their 1st pre-season game. Damon homered for the Yanks on the 1st pitch of the 1st inning. The rest of the team made some solid plays. Good batting, good defense. Wang pitched a good game and the bullpen didnt look too shabby either. Certainly should be a good season (barring injuries are minimized). 3/1/2007 10:38:03 PM |

Pavano actually didnt pitch that poorly. He had some sketchy defense that forced him to throw more pitches. He had a good 92-94MPH tailing fastball, which was hitting its spots. He only walked 2, and didnt allow a bunch of hard hits...just the homerun by Dukes. 4/3/2007 10:53:06 AM |

for people who say Alex isnt clutch:
Alex The Great
He's certainly had his share of failures in pinstripes, but yesterday brought to mind some of the shining moments in Alex Rodriguez's Yankee career.
May 5, 2004: A day after hitting his 350th career home run, A-Rod smacks his 351st, a ninth-inning solo shot in Oakland to tie the game and help spark Yanks' comeback victory.
August 4, 2004: Launches two-run, game-winning home run in bottom of 11th, breaking 6-6 tie against A's at Stadium.
Oct. 6, 2004: Drives in game-tying run in bottom of 12th inning in Game 2 of Division Series against Twins with ground-rule double — putting Derek Jeter, the eventual winning run, on third. A-Rod finishes game 4-for-6 with homer and three RBI.
Oct. 9, 2004: Three days later, scores the series-clinching run in Minnesota when he doubles, steals third, and comes home on a wild pitch.
Oct. 16, 2004: Before it all goes south against Boston in ALCS, A-Rod helps crush Red Sox in 19-8 Game 3 thrashing, with three hits, three RBI, a homer and five runs scored.
April 26, 2005: Hits three home runs in first three at-bats and becomes only 11th major leaguer to drive in double-digit runs in single game, finishing 4-for-5 with 10 RBI in 12-4 drubbing of Bartolo Colon and Angels at Yankee Stadium.
July 14, 2005: Tags Curt Schilling (pitching in relief, sans bloody sock) for two-run homer in ninth inning at Fenway that breaks 6-6 tie and proves to be game-winner.
August 4, 2005: Clubs solo homer in top of ninth off Cleveland closer Bob Wickman to tie game at 3 and set up game-winning solo shot by Jason Giambi.
June 28, 2006: In midst of month-long slump that has Yankee fans jeering, A-Rod blasts a two-run, 12th-inning homer to beat Braves at the Stadium.
July 2, 2006: In Subway Series finale at Yankee Stadium, hits grand slam and three-run homer in 16-7 shellacking of Mets. 4/8/2007 10:00:26 AM |
