Quote : | "What incentives do health insurance companies have to expand into the too-rich-for-Medicaid (i.e. $2000< in total assets) but too-poor-for-private insurance market?" |
They don't have any because of government mandates.
The government mandates the range of benefits (which can be expanded to include massage therapists via political lobbyists) AND requires small group policies are guaranteed issue under HIPAA.
This increases the cost to the insurance company and raises premiums, which prices some people out of the market.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against insurance policies covering all small groups or massage therapists. I just don't think the government should force them to do so.3/17/2008 10:39:53 PM |

Quote : | "The rights set out by our forefathers are rights to actions like the pursuit of happiness." | This may seem like a minor point, but rights aren't "set out", they are. From an American perspective, they are codified in the first ten amendments to the Constitution.
That doesn't mean we aren't free to debate what is, and isn't a right. But once we agree that something is a right, it isn't something that can be taken away or repealed.3/23/2008 7:59:20 PM |
