saw this with some high school friends. dont remember what happened, or there even being a plot... i was bored out of my mind. perhaps it's better on a second viewing, but i'll pass. feel free to love it though.

I'm watching The New World right now - another Terrence Malick flick.

It looks way too similar.

The fact that great directors have a recognizable style infuriates me to no end as well.

The style is great.

The long silent walking shots in nature with a steadicam and soft narration just reminds me of his last movie.

Spielberg didn't put any shark POV shots in Schindlers List.

Malick likes to linger on characters to allow us to enter the experience. He doesn't make this scene to make a point, gets it accomplished, then moves on the next scene and repeat... that's very Speilberg-esque. All told, I can completely understand how boring it might come across to those unwilling to participate.

I watched The New World in HD the other day. It looked so much better than the first time I saw it. They should totally have an HD channel devoted to playing only his films.
