this ending absolutely ruined my week.

it will be put in the T.A McClendon referee category along with Julius Peppers' blocked FG against dallas last year.

Who cares, we aren't Duke, we never will be, so stop obsessing over them and worry about our own team.

^^ dude were just fucking saying that they got it wrong, you sound like a duke fan

i'm not saying about them always getting the calls, although sure they seem to get a few, im just saying the referees definitely fucked this one up

0.6 seconds to shoot that shot?

yeah right.

^ i don't know but anybody with any sense could see that was more than 0.6

doesn't matter

even if there were only 2.8 seconds left duke still would have won somehow

instead of throwing half court to under the basket they would have thrown to the basket or shot from half court

and probably made it

don't the refs keep time during the last minute of the game

or was that in the nba

or maybe just a long time ago

or did i just make that up entirely

Its not the refs fault. They did what they were suppose to do. Blame the clock operator if you really have to blame someone.

yea but the refs can look at it. but they somehow figured that the whole play clemson ran took .6 seconds instead of the 2 seconds it really took. duke got lucky tonight really lucky.

I don't think any NCSU student, alumni, or fan would want a guy like K coaching our team. We are certainly jealous of his win loss record, but would never want someone with his personality, he'd curse out Mother Teresa if it came down to it. The way he sidestepped and countered the preferential treatment from the officials last season on multiple interviews was brilliant I must say. Celebrations on either home/away courts are not different. The only thing is that if you are away, you shouldn't stomp on opposing mascots or taunt, as long as you don't do either, it's fine, I don't think Va Tech did either, but I didn't see every bit of it.

you guys are unbelievably lame. How do you know 4.4 wasn't right? maybe an extra second or two ran off on the previous play? and 4.4 didnt guarantee duke a win they still had to make an amazing play. they took the time given and did what they had to do. 1.8 2.8 4.4.

then they should have stopped the clock after those plays and fixed the clock. you can't just randomly go back in a game and find random spots to change clock times.

How do you know the clock didn't run early on the layup play?

The time didn't win the game anyway. Dave's basket did. Simple as that. Clemson has only theirselves to blame.

and by the way hamilton walked

Oh my god, just shut the fuck up now. If coach K left Duke tomorrow to come to NCSU 99% of NCSU fans would shit themselves, then after they got done wipping up that mess, they would clean the front side where they creamed themselves. The guy is loyal as fuck to Duke....remember when Buss offered him shit tons of money to go coach THE LAKERS? It takes a classy guy to turn that down. He is pretty much college basketball. Sure, he has had his moments as a coach, but what coach hasn't. There isn't a college basketball program in the nation that wouldn't spend 2x whatever it would take to get him to coach their team. So just shut the fuck up with your "Nobody here would want him" shit.

This happens all the time. A game I was watching a week or so ago had several "clock starts a full two seconds after it should" moments. This is a chronic problem with college basketball.

I wouldn't want him to coach at State. I've seen him take a chair from a handicapped man before. He's not a likable guy. He screams and curses at everybody until he's red in the face and looks like an ugly child. He's a terrible loser. He's "too good" to do most of his own interviews anymore. He's not a "classy guy." He loves Duke and he's God in Durham...he could never be that at LA, even with "shit tons of money." There's nothing classy about not wanting to coach professional basketball and recognizing when you already got a good thing going.

If you wanna fellate him, go for it. But I'll pass.

this is as well written/explained on the situation as your gonna find

from 850theblog:

Quote :
"Let’s quickly handle the mistakes and the final outcome from last night’s 68-66 Duke win over Clemson at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

> Duke held a 5-point lead with 12.7 seconds to go before Vernon Hamilton drove the baseline for a slightly contested lay-in trimming the lead to 3 with 5.0 on the clock.

> Duke set up to inbound the ball and Josh McRoberts’ pass intended for Greg Paulus ended up going right to Clemson’s Hamilton who was standing just beyond the 3-point circle.

> Hamilton set his feet and launched the shot, it went through the hoop and tied the game. Unfortunately, the clock continued to run after the ball went through the net and Mike Krzyzewski asked that the referees check to see if more time should be placed on the clock. At this time, there was 1.8 remaining.

> After reviewing the tape, the referees set the clock at 4.4 – which is precisely what the clock should have read had it been stopped when the ball went through the hoop.

> What was missed by Mike Kitts, Tom Lopes and John Cahill – three extremely experienced officials – was that the clock failed to start when Hamilton touched the ball. Instead, the clock started when the ball was just about to pass through the net. It’s important to note that the three officials were not the only ones to miss this. ESPN’s crew of Len Elmore and Mike Patrick – along with their production staff failed to realize the error. And, most importantly, OLIVER PURNELL failed to recognize this error.

Did Purnell really think that his player could catch shoot and swish in 0.6 seconds? That is a physical impossibility. So why did Purnell not challenge the timing? He was well within his rights to say to the crew, “guys, there’s no way on this earth that it only took 0.6 seconds”.

He didn’t.

4.4 was put on the clock and Clemson’s matador style defense allowed the Blue Devils a point blank opportunity to win the game.

I’ve heard and read all the conspiracies, but this is just a bunch of people angry because the Duke Blue Devils took advantage of the situation by winning the game. Just like Clemson took advantage of Duke’s inability to handle the ball – not to mention the pressure – in the closing minutes of the game and rallied from 8 down to tie the score.

Clemson played a very good game last night – for 39 minutes and 57.5 seconds. But, games are 40:00:02.5 seconds long nowadays, and you have to be ready to play the whole 2,402.5 seconds in order to win on the road in the ACC.

For all of you people slamming the time-keeper at Cameron, consider this….

1- Everything involving the clock is reviewable by the officials.

2- If the timekeeper was trying to help Duke out then why did he allow the clock to run after the ball had already gone through the hoop? By calling attention to the mistake, that allowed the officials to correct ANY timing errors they could detect.

The really sad part in all of this is that it has obscured a very entertaining – albeit sloppily played – basketball game. Both teams hit big shots, both teams made big mistakes, and both teams played with a lot of heart and guts. The way it ended was unfortunate, but to say that Duke was given this game by the officials, or some sort of higher power is simply wrong.

Mike Krzyzewski didn’t reset the clock, the three officials did – with Oliver Purnell’s blessing I might add."

^Give you a break on what?

Ollie Purnell isn't the timekeeper. And he doesn't have a bench full of dudes waiting to suck his cock and watch every detail of the game for him.

And none of that has to do with the timekeeper fucking up.

I didn't see Purnell give his blessing. It all happened really fast. One moment it looked like three seconds was what they were going with and the next moment Duke had won and was falling over itself.

well the problem came because the clock started too late on the shot. the ball went through with 4.4 so they did in fact put very very close to the right ammount of time back on the clock. In the heat of the moment they didn't look far back enough to see the clock start late.(they were just trying to get the time the ball went through the hoop asap, and did)

And it wasn't homerism because if the clock operator was giving duke the extra time he wouldnt havve ran it all out afterwards. Possibly trying to run off the time that should have elapsed at the start of the play?

either way...

I don't think it was homerism but a stupid timekeeper who thought the game was basically over anyway and had probably started mentally celebrating.

But this whole letting the clock run out is not evidence against any homerism, as everybody knows that no timekeeper would actually think he could get away with that.
