how is serving as both a state and federal congressman, sucessfully running a law firm and being a constitutional law professor not equate with qualification or experience?

What qualified Ronald Reagan, or Bob dole, or any number of people you supported or like, or whatever?

so now, in order to be president you must have served as a governor? Better get that constitutional amendment passed then. Let's not play games here. If obama was a republican you'd be throwing your life at him.

I like the man, I like what he stands for. In my mind, that makes him qualified to serve as president.

Well this is a fine example of how positions gained via nepotism shouldn't count towards a guy's experience.

Perhaps you'd like to mention how Texas is a gubernatorially weak state so your boy had little power and little say as to how the state was run. And how many businesses did he tank before becoming prez? Yeah, talk about qualified...

"As is the trend in many Southern states, the Governor's power is quite limited. With the exception of the Secretary of State, the remaining members of the Governor's cabinet are also elected by popular vote. In addition, because the Lieutenant Governor runs on a separate ticket, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor can be (and have been) from different political parties.

Another limitation on gubernatorial power involves the commutation of prisoner sentences, an issue which arises whenever a death penalty sentence is to be carried out. The Governor can only overturn a death sentence upon the positive recommendation of the Texas Board of Pardon and Parole, the Governor can choose to ignore the Board's clemency recommendation and carry out the execution, but the opposite is not true—the Governor cannot commute or overturn a sentence if the Board does not recommend such. The only unilateral option the Governor has is to issue one, 30-day stay of execution."

Quote :
"The Lieutenant Governor of Texas is the second-highest executive office in the government of Texas, a state in the United States of America. It is considered the most powerful post in Texas government because its occupant controls the work of the Texas Senate and controls the budgeting process as a leader of the Legislative Budget Board. But the fact that the son of a goat-herder graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law, taught Law at the U. of Chicago, and won state and national senate seats is not a legit qualification at all.

ok...so you are cool with just experience in other non-political things??

not that he has ZERO...but clearly he doenst have as much as 80% (??) of people in the house and senate...

but like i said...i can see how that could be a good thing...the ones who have been there so long (Lindsay Graham/Ted Kennedy) are pretty much worthless

The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.

This speech was Obama's introduction to most of America, and it was said that it gave him "instant celebrity"[30] status.

He is the unity candidate, and I think with edward who is the white male southern democrat candidate, they could combine to make a strong ticket.

Our country has pulled very few presidents out of the senate. Obama needs some experience as a governor first. Show us that he can be the executive of a smaller state before we hand him the entire country.

Of course even with that, I'd never vote for someone with such a liberal voting record.

Oh. That has no bearing on what he is though.

If a white person marries a black person, that doesn't make the white person non white.

Or maybe i'm still confused about what you're saying...

If his wife is black, with black parents, then his kids would be approximately 3/4 black and 1/4 white.

people have been jizzing over obama since the day he was elected. I remember that crap. The commentators were like "oh man, Obama could be a presidential candidate!!! Oh man!!!" And I was like "why?" They did the same thing with Edwards, too.

I'm not saying that Obama is worthless, but I think he has just been hyped up by the media from day one.

Edwards doesn't really compare to Obama.

Obama is hyped up, but if anyone deserves it, it's him. Initially at least, he was a fairly straight-shooter. He hasn't done anything too bold since that I can recall, but he's far better than Edwards.

^^ Good article. I think this part is worth requoting here:
Quote :
"What they fail to understand is that African-Americans meet other intelligent, articulate African-Americans all the time.
...
Obamania is rooted in the belief that 50 Cent, not Barack Obama, represents the real black America."

No, they didn't. I mean, you may have had some people saying it, but the noise was never quite as deafening as it is with Obama.

Obama came in a rock star...I'm not sure that Edwards hit rock star status until he defended Clinton against impeachment charges on the Senate floor.

Here's a good question: can someone please explain to me this about Hillary...

Quote :
"she is kind of an extremist in her own way."

I'm thinking this is either based on a) because she backed a universal health plan (THE HORRORS!) or b) because bitch=extremists.

I'm not voting for her, but I don't understand why she's an EXTREMIST in the eyes of so many people that aren't exactly far-right Republicans.

I'm voting Tancredo. MEXICO OUT OF AMERICA!

So how is she more of an extremist than Obama, according to the thread-maker?

Was it "liberal" of her to push for legislation regarding violent video games?

Well then that's a pretty sad definition of extremism you have going there.

I'd define it as trying to disrupt the poltical order of the nation entirely. Has she done that?

i think your definition is a piss-poor definition of extremism. you don't have to want to disrupt the entire nation's political order to be an extremist.
