You guys had a nice haul as well...

Quote :
"Most impressive class (besides Florida and USC): Tennessee. Considering the Vols haven't seriously contended for a national title in six years -- and are only a year removed from a 5-6 season -- it's beyond impressive that coach Phillp Fulmer continues to rack up such loaded, nationally stocked classes. This one includes a trio of stud receivers (Kenny O'Neal, Brent Vinson and Ahmad Paige) and a trio of five-star defensive players (DB Eric Berry, LB Chris Donald and DE Ben Martin)."

yeah, I am really happy with the class, Fulmer's best skill aside from eating has always been recruting. We really need WRs after losing Meachem, Swain and Smith this year. Gerald Jones might be a WR too, either that or RB. Berry is fucking amazing, really fucking fast

This might be in the recruiting class thread, but it's appropriate here too. What about Jonathan Hannah? Anyone know what's the deal with him?

Most of the insiders are saying Hannah hasn't made his mind up and has not signed with anyone, and will wait a few days. Most think he nearly inked with FSU, but he will wait a few days so that he can sleep on it.

Back to the UNC future Morehead Scholar Jones. Clemson did inform the Jones kid they wouldn't be able to accept his commitment because of grades (Jones is quoted saying this), and the rumor that the kid was suspended form school recently for cursing out his Spanish teacher (doubtful it was in Spanish) didn't help his cause. I don't think it's right, but someone published his SAT, and it was stated to be a 670. I guess he is going to give Neon Bodeau a call and hire his tutor, Coach Bell's wife, to get it up to about a 900, because with the sliding GPA/SAT scale, that's likley the minimum he will need. UNC needs to stop walking around telling everyone that the athlete they recruit is so much more well rounded academically than everyone else's recruits (The UNC spinsters saying Clemson might face recruiting violations is some very good spin I must say). I think Washburn may have found his match.

Jaybee, Could I get your assessment on the UT/Bama recruiting incident a few years ago with Fulmer and that Tide big time booster that wound up dead in his home.

^ I just spoke with one of the attorney's I work for, and he said that he heard Hannah sent in his signed LOI, but his parents wouldn't sign it. Supposedly, both the recruit and the parents have to sign it. His dad went here and played here and wants him to honor his original commitment to play here. Some family issues yo!

Bama had a lot of recruiting violations, everyone in the SEC knew about (all the coaches) but no one officially called them out on it until Phil was giving testimony in a totally unrelated case and was under oath and they asked him about it so he had to tell. After it came out several other coaches backed him up

^^If that is true, then I don't want him regardless of his father. I don't want a guy here that doesn't want to be here regardless of talent level.

if somebody with the time could do the following, it would be cool:

take Tom O'Brien's recruiting class relative rank over several years, and correlate it to his team rank at the end of the year.

for example if he averages #50 in the nation out of a 100 ranked teams in terms of recruiting class, but finishes on average ranked at #25 out of a 100 ranked teams, it can be said that he makes efficient use of assets.

if this is the case, it smells like we're in for some good times given our potential recruiting clout over BC.

Toyota, I'm not so sure about that, I know if a senior in high school (which Hanna is not) is under 18, his parents have to sing the LOI as well. Hanna was not committed to FSU, he was committed to Amato, I can't imagine going to a school because of a position coach, and not even your own position coach at that. I'd say he will end up in Raleigh.

Jaybee, very very intersting stuff. I'm not so sure I buy all of it though. If you are a coach, you don't open your mouth about others and recruiting violations, that's an unwritten rule, you let the NCAA handle that, unless you hypothetically cut a deal because of your own wrongdoing. If the case Fulmer was on the stand for was "unrelated" to Bama, why in the world would someone ask him those questions? And if you're Fulmer's attorney, you know full and well to object and get them to reword so that Fulmer doesn't have to throw any mud if the case is "unrelated." Why would he want to initiate such an ordeal? All I'm asking is when has there been another case where a coach spoke up about another programs violations without some form of a motive. His attorney or he himself could have at the minimum shared this concern with the court that exposing these rumors could be detrimental to his own career.

it wasnt totally unrelated to bama, but it wasnt about that particular case. Logan Young was dirty as fuck, paid Albert Means family and coach $150,000 to get him to go to Bama

No question about that and Alabama's troubles in that era. But why in the world would the head football coach of any school testify against them, unless he directly saw the transaction, which would be nearly impossible, without a motive. Bringing the head coach in as a witness to testify against another program (in the same conference) seems very hard to believe without any motive, or was there? If the NCAA wants to take down a program for things and people such as Logan Young, you certainly don't have to go digging up evidence on another coach's doorstep, the evidence can be found in many other places and through many other people, so why Fulmer???

I dont know the details, maybe they asked Fulmer if so and so went on and if he had ever witnessed it and therefore he had to bring it up, not sure

Come on now, you don't just arbitrarily go to the head football coach of Tennessee and ask some questions to get the dirt on another program equally as big, there is a motive. The NCAA could get that information from a multitude of different sources regarding the Logan Young and Means situation tot ake down Alabama, unless Fulmer was hiding in a tree with fatigues and a digital camera in another state, but I kind of think he has more important things to do with his time like get his team ready for football.

what??? you arent getting it, the goal of the trial wasnt to "get bama"... it was something totally unrelated and during the course of that it somehow came up. It not like the whole thing was some weird roundabout way of getting Fulmer to admit it but somehow it came up and since he was under oath...
