how is he hiding it? do you want him to take a bunch of cell phone photos of him smoking and sending them to the media?

funny how nobody has commented on what Bob Ryan said about Obama smoking weed and using coke

seems like that might affect someone's opinion of him

really? a president or presidential candidate who used to do cocaine doesnt affect your views on him? i coudlve sworn you've pointed out bush's cocaine use as something that affected you...hmmm

even still i'm sure some other people would have a problem with his past drug use, even if you dont

C'mon, man, be honest with yourself for one moment. If Obama were not trying to hide the image of his smoking, wouldn't there be at least one photo of it? After all, he's apparently been smoking for a while.

^^I can't say that there are photos of me smoking and I smoke. I'm just tyring to understand why you are making a big deal about it.

^^^Obama, unlike Bush admits to his drug use. Bush just Bush just pushed it to the side and said he wasn't going to talk about it.

all of the above is why i dont think obama's campaign can sustain itself. the media has worked so hard at turning him into a demi-god, small stuff that is unimportant will probably end up taking him down.

One of these days he is gonna show up somewhere looking tired and say something stupid and instead of most campaigns where it would get a couple of stories but wouldnt be that big a deal with him it will lead to every paper in the country having stories that say, "Is Obama ready for the national stage? Apparently not" /campaign

who cares if he smokes? honestly, I would have more respect for him if he kept on smoking than if he quit just to make himself look better. I mean, how many elected officials in Washington drink? It's not like he's smoking crack. Oh wait... that's the former mayor.

^ Yeah, that's why I left the type of poll out. If I'm not mistaken, it was a text message poll. Probably a promotional thing; I wasn't paying close attention.

i was wondering because i dont think there is much wrong with their actual polling. the last "text message poll" i saw them do was during the sotu. the numbers didnt change once through the whole thing. it was pretty amusing.

I agree with you that he is trying to hide it. Most smokers in public positions hide their smoking. Shoot, plenty of smokers that aren't in public positions are trying to hide their smoking from some people.

For the children, you know.

^I see why you're arguing with him. I've changed my opinion.

Quote :
"hooksaw: Yes, be a role model: Hide and duck and dodge and so on. I think people are tired of bullshit."

Yes, he is perhaps hiding it, but we can't say "ducking and dodging." Choosing not to smoke in public is not "ducking and dodging." We could argue that he thinks smoking in public is rude, and the fact that there aren't any photos of him doing it isn't evidence of him hiding it but rather evidence of him being respectful of the people around him.

And the fact that he admits to smoking isn't the behavior of someone who's trying to hide it.

Why are you so hung up on this detail?

If Bush could make cocaine and DUIs a non-issue, I'm guessing that Obama can make tobacco a non-issue.

OMG, Obama's lost so many brain cells! He's barely coherent:

Quote :
"Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man. Except the highs hadn't been about that, me trying to prove what a down brother I was. Not by then, anyway. I got high for just the opposite effect, something that could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory. I had discovered that it didn't make any difference whether you smoked reefer in the white classmate's sparkling new van, or in the dorm room of some brother you'd met down at the gym, or on the beach with a couple of Hawaiian kids who had dropped out of school and now spent most of their time looking for an excuse to brawl. ... You might just be bored, or alone. Everybody was welcome into the club of disaffection."

Quote :
"I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though."

And I think comparisons between Bush and Obama's drug use are silly.

1) Bush wasn't honest about it.
2) Obama and Bush probably had different relationships with cocaine, given the role of money in the situation.

And to answer the original question, Twista, anybody who has lost all their brain cells to drugs use would never be fit for the presidency, honest or not.

"The Last Smoking President

With news that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) has quit smoking, Ken Rudin says "the last big-time cigarette smoker in the White House may have been Franklin Roosevelt, who, interestingly enough, was often seen photographed with a cigarette holder in his teeth but rarely ever in a wheelchair."

Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush all quit smoking before becoming president."

Ducking and dodging:

Quote :
"In Obama's case, the pressure isn't just political. His wife has always been concerned about his smoking and, over the holidays, according to family friend Valerie Jarrett, the two of them agreed that he 'should stop now.'

'He began the process of quitting over Christmas,' Jarrett said. 'I have not heard of him smoking over the last several weeks.'

There's a little hedge room in the time frame, allowing for the possibility that Obama's resolve might have slipped a time or two. Obama didn't clarify the point [emphasis added]."

One more thing:

AND he fired up a fat ass cigar on 60 Minutes--in his gubernatorial smoking tent.

I want authenticity. Unfortunately, Obama is yet another packaged product.

you want authentic? ask Arnold where he stands on, well, anything. I think you will be surprised by his answers, cause he doesnt really stand anywhere, he just wanders around.

once he is done waffling you can ask him how many times he has sexually assaulted a woman?

^ I referenced Governor Schwarzenegger because he is a popular politician who does not hide his smoking. In addition--and this may come as a shock to you--I didn't vote for him. Since I am not one of Governor Schwarzenegger's constituents, I don't have to ask him shit, k?

Maybe if I keep posting this, you'll finally get it.

BTW, tonight on 60 Minutes, Obama waffled again on the smoking issue. His wife said that he had quit, but she would NOT call him a nonsmoker. As for Obama, he simply avoided the answer (read: "ducked and dodged") by comparing himself to a recovering alcoholic.

Remember, Obama's wife said that he had quit--except they then both said that he hadn't--sort of.

It's quite simple: (1) Obama could say that he still smokes, or (2) he could say that he no longer smokes.

PS: I forgot one: Or (3) Obama could say that he still smokes, but he doesn't inhale--like Bill Clinton, who was apparently unable to master the intricacies of inhalation.

I actually had trouble with inhalation for the first year I smoked. My friends used to tell me that they liked to watch me blow the smoke out cause it was all thick, and we finally figured out that I wasn't inhaling. I actually had to work at it.
