garbage time =

leak - 'coach coach please put me in please put in'

fulmer ' ok you whiny bitch, now that we are up 55-0 against wofford...go in and play punt team and tackle someone'

sorta like senior night in high school where the coach just wants everyone to get on the field, no matter the position. he never played linebacker in a game situation that was even remotely significant. maybe he got on the field in some capacity, but he wasnt a 'linebacker' stepping on the field once doesnt qualify.

wright knew larry harris, hence the connection....kinda like me.

I like the old school references where you really get a perspective. Like, for instance, did we really have a chance on Jordan and Stackhouse. Those would have changed our history as we know it. By the way, Leak and Stone were both looking here, when stone commited early, leak went to UF.

dude, leak was NEVER going to come here. he was NEVER going to take an official visit here. it was not between UF and NCSU. we did stop "recruiting" him when stone committed, kinda like how ive stopped asking jessica alba out since i got with my girlfriend.

yes about stackhouse, dont know so much about MJ. Stack and McInnis were seriously considering playing here. pistol pete wouldve played here but couldnt get into school.

I think we still should have a shot at Elijah Dukes if his career cant take off in baseball.

Schea Cotton hahhaha that guy was a joke. What an idiot

Im pretty sure Leak was moved to safety his junior year. That was a huge feature in Sports Illustrated i believe. I think he even started at safety his senior year or was projected to before injuries...

i believe MJ grew up a State fan, right? Kind of like how Torry Holt grew up a UNC fan.

safety sounds a little more likely than linebacker.

I think he was moved to safety after Chris leak had already committed to Florida.

I believe Chris was all set to go to UT but backed out after they yanked his brother at QB. He eventually moved to safety because he realized it was his only chance to get on the field.

seems like he had bad knees too.

but im not positive about all this because i dont watch college football. get jaybee he'll know.

Basketball: PJ Tucker. A girl I know that went to high school with him said that he really would have liked to go to State, but Sendek didn't try to recruit him.

^i heard the exact same thing. mike bell was NCSU bound but from the girl i talked to (enloe cheerleader at the time) said that State didn't even bother talking to Wilcox because of grades. Wilcox took offense to that and apparently hated Sendek/NCSU for that.

^Mike Bell has been the most disappointing bball recruit we have ever had that I can remember.

He was top 100(?) and like 3/4 stars and didn't even get to play here before transfering to a shitty school.

He can take offense all he wants. It's not as though ncsu has high academics standards. If he really wanted to play here, he could have done the little bit of work it takes to reach ncsu academic standards.

^^Mike Bell was not a Sendek type player. He went on to be player of the year once or twice in the Atlantic Sun, I believe. Bell was good, but not a damn ACC stud.

^Maybe he would have done the work if he wanted too, but too bad he had an offer from the Maryland "Final Four" Terps.

yup, everyone considered it a given that he was coming to Tennessee but the family got really pissed when CJ Leak couldnt win the starting job and Ainge/Schaeffer started as freshmen (first time in the SEC in some retarded amount of time, like 40 years or something), so he switched over to Florida. CJ ended up playing a little bit on defense, safety and linebacker, but nothing meaningful (think he lined up at TE a few times too)

I think CJ is on the staff there, as a strength coach or something like that. His M.O. was that he looked really good physically, threw a perfect ball etc, but just couldnt read defenses worth a shit

ouch... here are some quotes from him:

With Casey Clausen graduating this past year, do you feel you have the upper hand in the battle for the opening at QB?

CJ Leak: Yeah I do. Coach Fulmer actually came out recently and pretty much said that I am the guy.

Matt Miller: Are you looking forward to the Florida game though?
CJ Leak: Definitely. Especially since I am going to be playing.

whoops

In basketball, I'll agree with Chris Wilcox. He was wrapped up for State, but we went after Mike Bell instead. Chris Paul was a huge miss as well.

For football, I'll go with Xavier Adibi or Channing Crowder. Leak was never coming to State.

All Time:

Football - Joe Montana (Who had committed to play at NC State)
Basketball - Michael Jordan ('Pistol' Pete honorable mention)

montana was recruited by coach sloan to play basketball (i don't think he ever committed). he could've sucked, so i don't think montana should be considered a miss.

From what I've always been told, he had committed here to play football, but was pissed when we wouldn't let him play (baseball?) also.

He decided to Notre Dame becuase they allowed him to play both.

(Again, just what I've always been told. No idea)

p.j. tucker was never recruited to come to state because his grades were terrible. there obviously had to be some problem that made no acc school want him. he couldn't even make grades at texas and was eventually ruled academically ineligible. herb didn't want to deal with that.

trot nixon was coming to play baseball and football here in the early-90's. he actually played in the red-white football game before boston offered him a deal. he signed a few days before classes started and that was that. he's from wilmington, nc.

I thought he committed to wake as a sophomore. I might be thinking of Swinton though.

I'll go with Eric Hicks for basketball. Wouldn't have really fit in our system, but was a great player and really fun to watch.
