We are one of the Top 15 programs in college basketball history without a doubt. Certainly not on UNC or Kentucky level but we have a very competitive program resume with schools like Louisville or Michigan State.

Though I do think at times State fans do exagerrate our place but that isn't to say we should 'settle' for less than excellence. If you look at the Valvano and Sloan years they aren't anywhere near GREAT. They are good to very good. Valvano's ACC record wasn't near a Dean Smith or a K but he preached the importance of tournaments over the regular season..

I believe we are one of 5 or 6 schools to win a National Title with 2 different coaches.

^^I'll take a a couple down seasons in exchange for ACC Championships....and national title contention, which is exactly what every coach at NC State did before Robinson. Thats what NC State was, thats where everyone wants to be. What did valvano have...2 acc championships and an NC in 11 years? And there were years that we lost a game or two, but who gives a shit when you know your team will show up for the tournament and not lay eggs against our rivals.

^ Good call

Michigan State and NC State are spitting images of each other IMO.

-Both have 2 national championships...
-Both have always been very solid programs with downtime in between
-Both are the redheaded stepchild in thier respective state
-Both are 'known'...at least nearby... for one player (Magic Johnson/DT). Granted, Magic is a bigger name unless you're an ACC fan or sports fanatic, but that's becuase Magic actually had the chance to become great on the grand stage.

Unfortunately, they've been hitting thier stride for awhile now and we've had our troubles (We've gotten back to a respectable program but nowhere near where they are now or where we've been)

^also both have block S's, rabid student sections that are better than their main in-state rival, and have great science programs. most though consider Michigan the best engineering school though in that state.
