UNC is far more recognized in bball... no one is old enough to remember our glory days.
In football that is like arguing which smells better: cow shit or horse shit... we both suck ass

Just curious, how many football games have you been to when O'Cain was here? Shoot, when we had Sheridan and going to bowls we had trouble selling out in a then 50K stadium. Yes, Amato got it done attendance wise, but rest assured, people aren't going to be made a full of twice, if TOB isn't above .500 next season, I'm taking cover from some of our angry fans

I was 14 when O'Cain coached his last game...I dont really recall attendance back then...probably because I wasnt a huge college football fan until my junior year in high school. I just think that we've been bad at football for a good 3 years now and we still have good attendance numbers...and we're pretty bad at basketball this year and we're still drawing 15000 a game.

95% of the country doesn't even know State is one of UNC's rivals.

you say it as if it's fact. it's not like we have a certificate of rivalry w/ carolina, it's not some made up pro league "rivalry." it's just that we hate carolina, and when we're not in the shits, carolina hates us. sometimes people take this rivalry business way too officially, if that makes any sense. it's like how ecu just showed up and tried to create this intense "rivalry" with us, just for the sake of ticket sales. it's stupid shit, the only reason anyone dislikes ecu is b/c they did that... so i guess the ploy worked.

it's like in ncaa football, where fsu and clemson are "rivalry games," that shit's lame, the only way to keep it real is to keep it unofficial. when we pack the rbc and beat #3 carolina with 7 players, that's rivalry, not what espn plugs for ratings.

i love how NC State lore is created

we played 7 players against Carolina.

in a year or two, the story will be that it was just Fells, McCauley and Atsur going against 1,000 7-foot tall lottery picks

NCSUMEB...I believe the word you were looking for was "fool" not "full".

Not that I have toured the facilities, but I have a room mate that works with the NCSU football team and some family members that are high up in the Rams Club. Everyone will agree that UNC's facilities have gotten better, but are still not as good as ours. Ole' Chucky did like one thing...new toys...we got the facilities under him.

As for the NCSU fuzball vs. UNC fuzball...just ask him how long Butchy boy plans to stay? Cause I think that TOB will be here for a while and it will be a prosperous relationship for both. I can't say the same with Butchy

Haha my friend just made this long ass note post on Facebook because he was so upset from what I said to him last night.

Quote :
"For years I have debated with people (mostly State fans and those who hate Carolina) about which in-state football program is better, UNC or NCSU? Often I am told that NC State hands down is a better football program than North Carolina due to their recent "success" and their ability to produce better players than their Tobacco Road rivals. Not only did this naturally upset me, but it also got me thinking and researching the situation to get a better understanding of the matter as a whole.

First of all, North Carolina State loves to think about Carolina. All the time in fact. Never have I seen so many people who despise (or deep down envy) a school more than NC State does Carolina. I mean come on, they have a website devoted soley to the topic of bashing Carolina (http://www.CarolinaSucks.com) and all that takes place in Chapel Hill. Can you say, insecure? NCSU fans are also bitter to the point they actually take time out of their schedules to root against UNC in hope they
might witness a Tarheel loss they can post about on The Wolf Web (http://www.TheWolfWeb.com). Add to the fact State considers the Tarheels as their primary rival and you've got yourself an all-out UNC fascination. Or should I say fantasy? Either way, after all the homophobic jokes and neoconservative remarks are ignored and laughed at, there is history behind these two programs and that my friends is what I am getting to.

As far as recent "success" is concerned, neither NCSU or UNC have been very impressive this century. NC State, from 2000-2006 has a combined record of 49 wins and 37 loses (0.569, five winning seasons) with five bowl apperances and four victories. Not a bad bowl record, but look a little closer and you'll notice that two of those four victories came against teams with or below a .500 record, including a victory against the mighty 6-7 Jayhawks of Kansas in 2003. Also in that seven season span, out of State's 49 wins only 18 came against an opponent with a winning record. The Pack also had five first round draft picks during the period (#9 '01, #4 '04, #1 #22 #26 '06).

The Tarheels have struggled moreso on the grid iron from 2000-2006, compiling only 33 victories and 50 loses (0.397, one winning season) with two bowl apperances and one win against the 7-5 Auburn Tigers in 2001. 13 of the Tarheels 33 wins came against above .500 teams. UNC drafted two players in the first round (#2 #6 '02).

According to NC State fans, the stats above qualify them to be the best team in North Carolina history. Obviously they had a better record and more first round draft picks than their nemisis. So how did they fare head to head against the Heels during this time? The Wolfpack lost four out of seven games including two at home. Most Pack fans claim that head to head matchups don't really matter in the overall scheme of things (yea, I was baffled by that statement too). State had teams that were skilled enough to make it to bowl games and players who were good enough to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, but for some reason they couldn't beat a rival team that had more losses. I don't know about you, but to me in order to be considered the best team in the state you have to be able to beat the teams around you, not just non-conference and out of state foes. But that's just a non-NC State point of view there.

Now for the fun part. In every single conversation I have had about the subject of North Carolina football dominance (the state, not the school), the conversation ends once history is brought into play. History? Who cares about history? I mean, does it really matter that UNC has a better all-time conference record than State (UNC: 290-222-22, 0.583; NCSU: 243-276-23, 0.524)? There are claims that NC State has won more conference titles than UNC. State does in fact hold seven ACC titles while the Heels own five, but before the ACC was a conference, UNC won four conference titles in both the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Southern Conferences (teams included: Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, G. Tech, Kentucky, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi, Miss. State, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, and South Carolina). Aside from more conference titles, does an overwhelming advantage in the head to head department mean anything either (since their first meeting in 1902, UNC holds a 55-27-5 advantage over the Pack)? If you go to State, or pull for NC State, then I'm sure you're too bull headed to see any correlation here and your answer is obviously no.

Maybe a little more evidence will do. How about UNC's all-time record compared to NC State? The Tarheels are 627-470-54 (0.568) and have the 45th best winning percentage of all Division I-A schools and 25th most wins of all-time. NC State, however, is 518-506-55 (0.506) with the 79th rated WP of all-time and 58th most wins. The Tarheels have also posted seven top ten finishes in the Associated Press end of season polls. NC State on the other hand has zero top ten finishes, coming in at number eleven in 1974 as their highest finish.

As far as draft picks are concerned, since 1982 UNC has drafted 85 players into the NFL and NC State only 58. Wait a second here. I thought NC State produced better players year in and year out? According to the data, that's another NC State dream.

Now call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure that every credential mentioned thusfar has gone in the Tarheels favor. With the excpetion of the past few season (even then, in 2004 UNC beat an AP top 5 team and State has yet to do that), UNC is absolutely the better football school in North Carolina. No matter what angle an NC State fan tries to take, the numbers and data do not lie and there really is no comparisson in terms of who is the better team. With Butch Davis in town (some State fan please make a comment on the recruiting "issue" that's going on right now to prove my point here) it looks like the future is getting brighter and brighter in Chapel Hill and as far as State goes, maybe Tom O'Brien can do better than his predecesor Chuck and beat some teams other than Florida State. Either way, you be the judge on who is the better North Carolina football program since that's the only sport we can debate with them about. Don't even get us started on basketball....I don't think we'll have to worry about that one though."

I don't recall too many empty seats when Sheridan was coaching. Maybe a few years under O'Cain when State would play FSU and nobody would show up.

I agree.

When I talk to football fans down here in South Florida or when I was in California, NC State is much more respected in football than UNC, regardless of statistics. Real sports fans who keep up with football know about NC State's NFL players (Mario, Rivers, Holt, Wilson, etc). They also know that NC State was pretty good a few years ago with an underachieving coach who wore funny glasses and silly red shoes and a running back named TA who couldn't hold on to the football. The only thing these people know about Carolina is that Peppers went there and they just hired Butch.

I'm not from Oregon, but I know that Oregon and Oregon State is a fierce rivalry. I'm not form Boston, but I know that BC and BU is a huge rivalry especially in hockey. I've never even been to Texas, but I know that Texas, TAMU, and TT are usually all hotly played games, whether the teams are doing good or bad. GTFO of here with that "hardly anyone in the nation knows who we are and are rivals with UNC" shit. Normal sports fans (the people that matter when talking about sports) know who we are. Every fucking March Madness they show Valvano and the 83 team along with Jordan and Worthy in 82. I don't care what some wigger from Cal State Long Beach wearing a UNC hat, or some emo kid from Northern Arizona thinks of State. And I sure as hell don't care about the opinion of all the Wal-Mart UNC fans around the nation just b/c Jordan went there think of State. At least if you are from North Carolina you might be able to claim them as your team, but I'm not going to take someone seriously that claims to be a UNC fan that's never even driven past the Chapel Hill exit on I-40, let alone even been to the state of North Carolina.
