"try and rip off boondock saints a little more plz"

as previously pointed out, the two aren't that similar

the boondock saints was about people on a religious quest to kill bad people. the bad people did happen to be italian mobsters.

the black donnellys is about an irish family that gets into organized crime, a far cry from being "shepherds for the lord"

that one scene at the end where he stabbed the security guy and then shot the other 2, although the details were different, the overall idea made me think of the scene from Boondock Saints where he killed the 2 bodyguards and hit the guy in the head with a baseball

I fell asleep last night so I guess I'll watch it on the internets.

My dad said the characters are too stereotypical and stupid for him to enjoy it.

I'ma still watch.

I like the idea of having a show devoted to criminals on television acting a fool that aren't Italian or black.

Sure, the show borrows/steals familiar themes, situations, etc. from other sources, but it's delightfully violent and beats the shit out of most of network TV, so I'm on board.

I definitely see a strong parallel between Tommy Donnely, the "good kid" who is forced into a crime family leader a la Michael Corleone in The Godfather part 1. While I don't see much in the way of plot similarities with boondock saints, a lot of the cinematography is very similar which may be why some folks were reminded of that movie (aside from the whole black irish thing).

Maybe I have an unhealthy obsession with all things organized crime, but I dig this show.

so the narrator of the show, is he really in on all these things like he says he is? he just kind of appears in scenes at the end of them and it makes me wonder.

yeah i thought that was dumb. is he making it up as he goes? or just putting himself in the story so the cops will believe him?

it will last. it's cheaper for them to make than studio 60 is, so if it just does as well as studio 60 did (or close to it) they'd keep this one.

It shouldn't be hard to do as well as S60 considering their ratings are almost not existant.

^^^he's the tag-along of all the brothers and is also trying to keep them out of trouble...so some of the things he inserts himself to look like he's "in" with them (scenes where he appears right at the end) and others he has a disclaimer like "i heard from somebody" which is just to keep his brothers out of trouble.

that's how i see it at least...

The characters in mob movies/television lately are getting pretty stale. Most of them are a bunch of recycled over-the-top mooks.

the whole joey ice cream thing is really dumb, and the show would be better if it were just the story of the brothers.

i mean, its going to tie in somehow in the end, like the brothers are all dead or something, and the police are trying to figure out why... hence why in the first ep they asked JIC where the bodies were.. but they werent talking about the bodies of the ones the brother shot in the basement of the resturaunt. and we havent seen any of the brothers in the timeframe that JIC is talking to his lawyer and police.

The fact that the girl told him that she couldnt be with him after making moves on him was pretty silly.

tons of holes with the crimes, specifically with trying to cover them up

but then again, it's entertaining.

and jesus christ, when the brother was bashing the body with the sledge hammer, that dude is fucking ripped.

obviously i cant remember the names of who each one is

^Yeah.

I thought it was really silly for them to take their clothes off for that. If I'm at risk of getting blood splattered all of me, I'd rather have my clothes on to protect myself.

you got to remember they had just stolen those clothes because they had blood all over the other ones from murdering the mob...they are trying to think ahead if anyone ask for their clothing they were wearing that night

that was in the web episode. they cover it enough in the flashbacks of broadcast episode 3 that you can get what happened, but they go into a lot more detail in the web episode (which is a full length episode)

There are 4 episodes in total.
Broadcast Episode 1, "Pilot"
Broadcast Episode 2, "A Stone of the Heart"
Web Episode, "God is a Comedian" (watch it here)
Broadcast Episode 3, "The World Will Break Your Heart" (technically episode 4 overall)
