i never said he sucks, you fucking numbnuts.
what's tennessee's rank right now? oh that's right, they're outside the top 25. just outside the top 10 my ass. tennessee isn't even receiving any votes in the coaches' poll (40 in the ap). interesting how the media likes tennessee, but pearl's peers haven't given him even one vote. yet, they give schools like vermont, marist, and virginia commomwealth some votes. media likes pearl, but other coaches apparently don't think he's all that. kinda like how amato was treated.
pearl broke the top 10 last year, but quickly went on a losing streak. gee, that sounds familiar too. pearl made it to the 2nd round of the tourney last year. that's about equal to amato's gator bowl win.
pearl's team has had it's share of arrests amongst the players as well, like the two guys being caught with crack. then, there's the major wingate thing. pearl lets the dude back ont the team after being kicked off for drug possession, and then he gets rekicked for drug possesion again. atleast chuck never did something as stupid as that.
as for his 300+ career wins, the mofo was at southern indiana, a fucking div-ii school, for over half his career. those don't count towards "most wins", which is typically in reference to division-i wins. stop trying to spin that shit, shannon. he still has a respectable div-ia though. and so does amato, after his first head coaching gig.
basically, both are flashy, high-spirited, super recruiters. pearl is just starting out at tennessee, but so far, his results are similar to amato in that the team has a streak of success, then flounders. tennessee beats a top 10 team here and there, and amato made fsu his bitch. pearl has never won a championship on the div-1a level, and amato hasn't as a head coach.
i bet shannon agrees. right, bitch?!:

difference is Pearl had been a good head coach elsewhere with less talent (and not just division II) beforehand and had more of a consistant track record before getting to a major school whereas with Amato it appears more and more that he just got lucky with having Philip there from the beginning and once he was gone the "true" Amato came out (great recruiter, but not a great had coach) 2/28/2007 3:43:30 PM |

no has ever said amato is a great head coach. he also wasn't a bad one. despite never winning a championship, he was able to accomplish much more than any other previous coach. and pearl certainly isn't great himself. he may be one day, but he isn't right now. 2/28/2007 5:50:09 PM |
