The ACC is a great conference top to bottom...any given day
also since DaveOT's post was #49 and this is page 2 I will quote him since he basically pwnt some of the naysayers
Quote : | "Hey look, the 12th seed team just upset the 5th seed.
There's just such a huge dropoff between those teams that Miami shouldn't even be in the tournament.

^^and its bad enough that we only got to play Duke and some other teams once
i heard something even more fucked up about the big east...did you know that Louisville plays West Virginia tonight in the Big East tournament? Well that doesnt seem out of the ordinary since they are both Big East teams and its the Big East tournament...but did you know that West Virginia and Louisville didnt play each other ONCE this season???? How screwed up is that...you cant even play every team in your conference...and this is basketball, not football where there just arent enough games to play everyone

yeah what a ridiculous notion that all 12 teams shouldnt make it.
If you left out FSU this year they wouldnt have had a chance to beat Clemson and they might not make the NCAA tournament.
Stupid, Stupid, Stupid
Im looking forward to the game tonight. Probably wouldnt be too excited if we werent in the tournament 3/8/2007 5:06:41 PM |

^^ they fixed that at least. Next year they are going to an 18 game schedule with each team playing each other once and then 3 teams playing each other twice. 3/8/2007 5:12:51 PM |

if we had 18 like the big east and pac 10, we could play every one once and 7 teams twice
we could play the other 3 NC schools twice every year so thats 14 games ( 2 vs Duke, Wake, and UNC and 1 vs everyone else)
then break the other 8 teams into 2 groups of 4 and switch off every year the teams we play twice
the ones north of NC (BC, Maryland, Virginia, and VT) and the ones south of N (Clemson, GT, FSU and Miami)
this would be the best case scenario 3/8/2007 11:13:03 PM |

tudor is eating some crow right now.
#9, 10, 11, 12 all win on the first day haha
so much for having just the top 8 teams... even if they all lose tomorrow, today showed why the acc tournament should include all 12 teams.
i wonder if tudor is writing a follow-up?? probably not. 3/9/2007 1:16:25 AM |

Quote : | "Mr. Tudor,
You wrote an article in recent weeks stating that the ACC tournament should only invite 8 teams: http://www.newsobserver.com/769/story/547720.html
As a student at NC State, seeded 10th, I objected to that notion with an obvious bias although I don't expect us to be in the bottom 4 in years to come.
I was just curious if your opinion on this matter has changed at all, or if you planned on writing a follow-up in light of the fact that each of the 9-12 seeded teams won close games in the first round.
While none of these four teams are expected to win 3 more games and take the ACC tournament crown, they have kept that possibility alive. Additionally, FSU probably clinched an NCAA bid with their win, and NC State has likely clinched an NIT bid. With an 8 team ACC Tournament, neither of these schools would have had that chance.
I also think you need to take the ratings you referenced with a grain of salt. Sure, the opening round games probably aren't as captivating to tv viewers, but this is largely exaggerated by the fact that most people have jobs and can't watch the thursday and friday games when they normally would have.
I've always respected writers that will acknowledge when they are proven wrong. It's quite possible that you don't believe that today's outcomes have proven anything and your stance remains the same. Either way, it would be nice to hear your opinion." |
i figured he'd get plenty of the 9-12 team fans sending him hate mail so i stuck with something more likely to get a response, if it even gets read at all.
