eh i guess that can be said about a lot of bands. but part of the point of seeing a band live is the total experience. i had a good experience seeing them. i guess if you like a band it is probably worth it on some level to go to a show.
unless you like cat power. you will immediately regret a decision to see her live. 2/28/2008 1:33:20 PM |

I saw Wilco in 2005 at
http://www.wilcobase.com/event.php?event_key=827
that show, and it was incredible. Right after Ghost is Born, but it was the current lineup and it FUCKING ROCKED. They even had the opening band play horns on "Monday" and "I'm the Man."
I hate throwing them under the bus... I really do. And a commercial isn't the worst thing ever... I love Of Montreal and don't mind and maybe (kinda) love that Outback jingle.
But I've been listening to Being There, AM, and Summerteeth since I was in the 7th or 8th grade, right around 1998-99... they were my first non-then-106.1/mainstream rock obsession; them and every Uncle Tupelo album. They occupy a huge part of my music fanhood, I'm just thinking of waiting on another album before paying to see them again or giving a fuck.
And I didn't think Ghost was a step back from YHF, just a positive step sideways. Sky Blue Sky sounds like safe 101.5 Dad-rock to me. Nothing challenging musically or lyrically.
It just feels like since that 05 show, they've been taking baby steps backward.. even the 2 chapel hill shows I went to in 06 were just kinda OK.

yea i think she played at cats cradle last fall. i'm too scared to invest/time money in attempting to see her again though. i'm to scarred from my previous attempts. still makes me shudder.
and i'm sad i missed jeff tweedy solo too.

i was going to say it sounded like adult contemporary music haha. i saw them in '05 too, loved the show. didn't make it to either of the c-hill shows, but what i heard of them is exactly what you're saying. that they weren't incredible just ok.
[Edited on February 28, 2008 at 2:03 PM. Reason : oh just kidding i saw them in 04. wow time flies.]2/28/2008 1:56:02 PM |

ehh, that whole snl thing is pretty bad. 2/28/2008 5:01:09 PM |

...so I'm thinking they'll play "Walken" and "Impossible Germany." (not that I'll watch, har-har) if they had any stones, we'd hear Via Chicago and Sunken Treasure or Radio Cure.
anyone think Jay Bennett might be an issue for this band? It is finally completely Tweedy's band, and a Ghost is Born was crazy, but he was on drugs and listening to Crazy Horse all the time.
Sky Blue Sky is the first album where Tweedy isn't being pushed/stressed either creatively or personally... and while that's better for him, the result isn't an interesting listen. 2/29/2008 9:20:59 AM |

The songs seem a lot more fun live than they do on SBS, I enjoyed the performances. But wtf white suit and wtf I didn't recognize Glen Kotche at first.

I love those songs, but they wouldn't make for a very exciting introduction to a national audience.

Ha, he's spent years trying to sound like Neil Young, nows he's starting to look like Neil Young.

review or no review, that album blows
wilco is dreadfully boring live these days - what a waste of money that was 3/2/2008 5:23:20 PM |

^^ I haven't read any reviews that did anything except praise the album. That's just my opinion.
I say dad-rock/101.5 because my dad really likes the album, much the same as he likes Jackson Browne or James Taylor. Not that it sounds like either of those guys, but the point is that there's nothing interesting going on. My dad likes country music; doesn't like Van Lear Rose, doesn't like Being There, doesn't too much like Jacksonville City Nights. Keyword... safe.
also, I know they wouldn't have played something as awesome as Sunken Treasure, but that's the point. Walken? Awwwful representation of everything this band has been. 3/3/2008 1:47:25 AM |

if you all would be reasonable
you would readily admit that wilco never made a good album after A.M. 4/28/2008 2:21:32 PM |

If you would be reasonable, you would realize that A.M. was really just an Uncle Tupelo album. 4/28/2008 2:36:36 PM |
