just got back from the sneak. it wasn't as good as the first one. this movie is very very gory. no character development. the only likable character gets killed off early. there are some familiar themes from the first film such as the innocent not being able to trust their military protectors. also they reused some of the music from the first film and while it worked great in the first film it loses its charm this time around. there is pretty much no climax, quite possibly the most anti-climatic ending ive ever seen. the first 20 minutes or so are the most entertaining part of the entire film.

[begin spoilers]

-there is an extremely gory scene where an army of zombies is completely mutilated by a helicopter rotor.
-i cringed near the end when the main characters literally come to a light at the end of a tunnel. yay for symbolism!

[end spoilers]

this movie was pathetic.

I thought it was pretty sweet.

Started out awesome and ended up being pretty decent.

But yeah.. the first 15 minutes were insane.

^^ I don't think they used 35 mm or whatever like they did last time.

I kinda wish they would have though.

most of the first one was filmed on an XL1, which added to the look, and helped them greatly in meeting time constraints for filming

the helicopter scene made the movie imho.

I leaned over to the person next to me (that i saw it with) and said "wtf, they could definitely use the helicopter to chop up those zombies" then 15-20 seconds later they did and I gave props to the directors

i got sick and blacked out when the kid hid in the warehouse with the guy. i don't know what the fuck caused it. i'm starting to suspect it's SOUND that really gets me (that loud, repeating helicopter thump and general gurgling)... the blood wasn't faint-worthy (but it was good), so WTF MATE?!

needless to say, i'll have to try to see it again later. i couldn't go back in the movie after blacking out while walking to the bathroom, and plowing into a fucking wall.

It was a different movie than 28 Days Later. I was a little upset about this at first, as Days was about character development and morality and such, while Weeks was mostly just a zombie/gore flick. But I really did enjoy it after getting past that fact.

I guess there is really no other way to end it and leave it open for a 3rd movie. For me, the first movie is better largely because it has somewhat a happy ending.

All for nothing it seems.

BUT ITS OK, THE US IS SURROUNDED BY WATER!

this was fucking horrible. Liked the first movie a bit but this was really really really dumbed down.

I knew it would be bad from the beginning when they said that it doesnt spread across species yet thats exactly how it started in the first movie.

And the dad being a somewhat "rational zombie" was stupid. And why would he poke the moms eyes out? did not fit ANYTHING that other infected did in either movie. Same thing with killing the chick at the end, he used something to pummel her with, pretty sure it was the gun, but no other infected ever used a "tool" to kill.

^ Well, it's pure rage, so they're going to be going crrrrraaaazy. And I think the eye-poking was just an homage to the In the House/In a Heartbeat scene in 28 Days Later when Jim does it to the last dude.

I got pretty much what I wanted out of the movie, could have used a bit more character development, but overall I was satisfied.

^^ Yeah that was a mistake, but in their defense the population of apes in Britain would be just about zero. I'm sure what she meant was that it had not infected dogs, cats, and birds...since these would be the most common animals to come into contact with humans. Not a big enough plot hole to ruin the movie.

i thought the movie was amazing

it was very gory, very violent, and very good

I agree.

I dont even remember how the thing ends thats how terrible it was, i mean i knew there would be room for the third but just completely makes it stupid if you ask me.

It really wasnt that gory i mean it had alot of blood but that wasnt too gory to me, coulda used more actually to keep me into it...

I just got into the whole horror thing, girl I just met has introduced me to a tonnn of films that are 500 times better than this.

there was NO PLOT except RUN AWAY RUN AWAY

but the snipers were cool as hell.

AND??? I ask again, what does that have to do with anything. No one claimed AIDS could or couldnt spread across species, that has nothing to do with the movie. THE MOVIE said "it cannot move across species" so are you saying that humans and chimps are the same exact species?

^^ yup, fucking horrible. Why did the dad all of sudden be the ONLY semi-rational zombie? And dont give me some bullshit about the infection being different because it came from the mom... the dad spread it to everyone else and they were just mindless fucks, but he, he kept showing up, he would pause dramatically, hide etc. but NO other infected did anyhting like that in the first movie or the rest of this one.

minor spoiler

i really enjoyed the movie, but it annoyed me how easily the kids got out of the "high security" district 1 and went to their house (thus fucking over all of the rebuilding efforts). granted the one guy did see the kids leave, but why the hell did they let them get so far instead of just stopping them? the military seemed pretty hardcore, with their "kill everyone" rule....you would think they would have been a little more on edge about people leaving.

kind of wish the movie ended with the helicopter shot, and not the paris shot.

Umm, I believe the jist of the plot was set up in the first movie, and this movie assumes you have seen the first. It then builds on that.

I don't see why everyone hates it. Is it just because of that cross-species comment? Did you guys hate Dawn of the Dead as well?

I can't wait until they make "cell" from King into a movie. Talk about a great zombie story. Eventhough the ending was odd.

I thought it was excellent

I LOVE horror movies and thought this one followed the previous one nicely. I also like the similar shots from the first movie (walking around London, running down the stairs in the subway).

Presumably, none of the characters in either movie had any idea where the disease came from, seeing as none of the scientists from the original experiments made it out alive.

As such, it is quite likely that none of the scientists had any idea that chimps could be carriers, unless while experimenting to find a cure they infected some chimps.

The opening scene in this film was incredibly well done. It scared the shit out of me.

The rest of the movie was okay.

I thought the first one was really good. I'm really not a big zombie movie type guy either. The first one just had great camera work, and I thought the use of color and music really made the film.

The second one was mediocre at best, I agree with whoever said there was NO character development. There really wasn't much of anything besides running from zombies and killing stuff.

The guy getting shot in the mellon as he's up against the glass was pretty cool though

This movie kicked ass!! I felt there was no need for that much character development in this one. The first one didn't really have any, so why should this one? The whole movie had me on the edge of my seat. Its just something about those aggressive zombies that work for me.

The early scene where the father was being chased through the country side was surreal. I could only imagine experiencing a horror like that. Overral, I guess the movie worked for me because I could see something like that happening (catastrophic outbreak--not zombies/demons necessarily but something close).
