I don't think Lowe would leave us. Not after one year. He has a chance to change us from a darkhorse to a power in the ACC

I think you have them switched...there was a recent article in USA Today and I thought Sid was just under $1 mil

one thing it did mention in that article was that his contract says he automatically gets a say in the hiring of the next athletic director if he is still coaching here when it happens

We can raise sid upwards of $2+ mil

The question is

1) is he worth it
2) Does he legitly have an offer to leave us for an NBA team that would make us raise his pay to that much.

Right now it doesn't seem he has a concrete offer(s)....they're just trying to entice him

[Edited on March 14, 2007 at 1:11 PM. Reason : and yes...as said...he makes around $900k per year now]

Sid makes about $900k... way too low for a promising ACC coach.

Oh, and the "rumor" is from THE most reliable source on PackPride.

i dont think we need to give him $2mil after one year

especially b/c we'll have no room to go higher down the line. i think we should just bump him up to like $1.3 or even $1.5 mil.

that's a big difference from 900k and it is a sign of good faith from the school. a nice "thank you" in the language everybody understands.

i want to say that in the end herb was making $1.3 mil. we had bumped him up to that a few years ago, maybe after the COY season.

^^ totally agree

Just saying...if they offered him 3 (which is what Bickerstaff reportedly made at Charlotte), we could possibly go to about 2.

He wouldn't deserve that at this point, and at some point it comes down to loyalty to the fanbase and the school. We shouldn't have to outbid someone for him....which theres no way State can outbid the NBA

If he likes the college lifestyle, we'll pay him enough. If he wants money or misses the NBA, he'll leave

Hmm...I thought that's about what he makes at ASU. Didn't he get a raise in pay when he went there? For some reason I thought he only was making like 1.2 mil there? (Can't google it, I'm at work )

$1.3-$1.5 mill sounds about right for Sid. We got an absolute bargain this year.

Never realized he made that much. I thought that range was only after incentives/endorsements.

^^I think it will come down to which experience he would prefer to have. The NBA lifestyle for NBA money or the ACC lifestyle for college money. I think, at least for now, he would probably stay.

so im not sure why my thread got locked...i wasnt trolling

any of you thinking that this couldnt/wouldnt happen are dead wrong. trust me. ive heard from a couple of places and initially laughed it off...now, im worried.

he makes 900k here. NBA coaches salaries are anywhere from 1-8 million.

for the record, i am a huge nc state fan. it would kill me to see it happen.

^you could be right about it being after endorsements.

herb is making somewhere like $1.3-$1.5 at ASU

all these are rough estimates based entirely from memory, so if anyone finds any actual sources or numbers that were printed then feel free to chime in.

^At the same time, you can spend your entire life never making it up to being a head coach, let alone at a school that pays you that much. Or you could suck really bad and just not get jobs other than hs level.

i dont really expect them to win the tourney, but he definitely deserves a hefty raise either way.

Just wanted to note that Bickerstaff was the head coach AND General Manager so i dont know if Charlotte would be prepared to offer $3 mil

im sure that Charlotte offered enough to make him stop dead in his tracks. that is from the horses mouth.

i dont think he wants to leave...but a raise that is 3 or 4x the amount you currently make is hard for anyone to ignore.

don't forget bob is a tight ass too, so anywhere near 3 mil for a less than successful NBA coach (historically) is not gonna happen.

sidney took the team picked last in the acc to the top (and would be headed to atlanta were not for a little injury. with herb we werent at the bottom BUT WE MIGHT AS WELL HAVE BEEN. we were the laughingstock of major college basketball. we were that cute little princeton team that might win a few games here and there if you're not prepared but we were never a THREAT

now we are a threat and we are exciting to watch and have the respect of the nation. in those regards we did GO FROM THE BOTTOM TOTHE TOP THIS SEASON

no i remember when we were terrible but theres a difference between being terrible and being the laughingstock.

we actually had talent but everybody knew we couldnt compete with duke and carolina (and many around the country said we never will) so we were just kind of hanging around there with a constraint on how good we could be. No matter how good we got we were always viewed with the "aww loot at the cute little princeton offense. they could make the sweet 16" but EVERRRRYBODY knew we would never do anything big.

we were like an ivy league team in the acc with. we were "smart" we made our fts. we were "fundamentally sound" we were like the little toy poodle at the dog show.

when you're good and nobody takes you serious=laughingstock

we were picked to finish 12th...and we finished 10th! lifetime contract at $10mil/year!!!

i'm proud of what we did in the acc tourney but lets not get ahead of ourselves...he had a nice season...dont act like our great acc tourney games were how we played all season...we still went 0-1 vs miami, 0-1 vs florida state, 0-2 vs maryland, 1-2 vs unc, 1-2 vs virginia, etc

This is great news for Wolfpack nation
Quit freaking out and look at it like this:
The proof that we now have the best coach in the ACC is in the fact that he has coached in the NBA and after one season where we barely had a winning record, he was so impressive that NBA teams want him back enough to throw millions at him.
THANKS NBA FOR HELPING US PROVE THAT WE ARE BACK! It also helps us with :
NCSU Basketball recruiting ++
NCSU positive media attention ++ (we have been sorely lacking this for too long)
NCSU hyped up preseason bball ranking a la UNC/Duke (means more tourneys because we wont have to work as hard to get in the top 50 teams no matter who our players are)
NCSU street cred +++ (generates $$$ & popularity and helps all of the previous areas)

We will get Sid the $$ he deserves. We have the $$ to make that happen, so dont worry. There is no way an NBA team throws top NBA dollars at him given his previous NBA record.

But perhaps the most important part:
Sid won't want to leave after just one year at his alma mater, and he wont leave us hanging out to dry. I could see him leaving only after he takes us to the next level (championships). He also wont leave us until he knows we will land another great coach to replace him; making sure his alma mater stays at the top.

He is one of us, never forget that because he wont!
He is our savior and he will not stop short of saving the present and future of our bball program!

Have a little faith in Saint Sidney, would ya?

i just have a feeling that nobody outside of the raleigh area is even following this story and it will probably go away as soon as we lose a game...or even if we win the NIT

^yeah they're two totally different games...Larry Brown is the only coach to win a title on each level, and he coached in the NBA and college both for quite awhile

I mean Spurrier helped get South Carolina back on the map...I guess NFL teams will be throwing money at him!

Theres no way he would just up and leave us right now....
Think about all his friends who have sacrificed to come here and support him ...
(i.e. Monte Towe left everything he had built at UofNO to come here)

He has suffered as we have suffered. He is not old yet and has plenty of years to prove himself in the NBA after he finishes the job here. He is one of us and ya gotta think that jobs and money are things he has already been exposed to. This time its personal.

That is why he has come to lead us back to the promised land that that Valvano foretold of oh-so-any years ago!
