I'm sure they would love to have me as well, but I'm neither racist nor a supporter of the KKK. I love the way you and so many other people twist things around so that anybody who doesn't support your agenda can be labelled as evil. It's very Bush like.

I learned a long time ago that you will never change a person by putting them down or making them an outcast. If anything you'll just strengthen their resolve. If you really want to be a force for change you should set a good example and appeal to people's logic and emotions. Appeal being the key word there.

Okay, the time for talk is over. Let's brain-storm some actual ideas, like you all have suggested.

I stand by my suggestion in another thread that we could use some sort of language filter. Whenever you make a post, the post will be scanned for any words that could be considered too offensive, such as "nigger." It will then replace that word with asterisks. So "nigger" becomes "n***r," for example. It would also do this automatically, so no work on the part of the moderators is required. You don't even have to do this for just racist words, you could do this for any sort of swear word or whatever word you think would be too offensive. You could have this feature turned off for premie users; having to pay to be offensive, so to speak. And maybe if they start to abuse the privilege, it'd be possible for the mods or admins to turn it off.

To be realistic, this sort of suggestion won't end racism or anything like that. It won't even necessarily clean up people's language on here; at best it will only make posts appear to be less offensive. But imo it's a step in the right direction. It says to people, mature and n00b alike, that this type of language is unacceptable and not tolerated. And minus the effort necessary to install this feature, it requires absolutely no intervention from the mods. It would be applied to everyone equally, so there's no way that a) mods could abuse the power to censor someone (since they don't control it anyway), and b) everyone gets censored without bias.

The only other suggestions that I can think of would require time and effort on the part of us older posters. We need to start leading by example, as it were. If we stand any chance of preventing the newer crowd from turning tww into a further shitfest, we too need to stop doing things that turn it into a shitfest. If we agree that certain behaviors on here are not tolerated, then we need to quit doing them ourselves (such as useless parody threads in anything other than chit chat). Of course, this would also require that the mods start caring more about their jobs.

Speaking of mods, here's an idea; don't keep the same ones for such a long time. Rotate them out every, say, two months or so. Shit, maybe have two or more people campaign to be a moderator and let the rest of t-dub have a poll and vote. I have no idea how well that'd work, for all I know people would just wind up picking the shittiest mod because that's who will let them do whatever they want. But at the very least, there should be strict requirements to be a mod. One should be a post count of at least 5000 or so. That ensures that they've been on t-dub long enough and are comfortably familiar with how things run on here. But switching them out frequently also ensures that they're not moderator for so long that they get bored with it and stop caring. It would also cut back on the amount of time that shitty mods have to abuse their status.

That's my brain's diarreaha for the moment. What do other people have to say?

some version of a reputation system. so at least when trolls or racists make tww look like garbage, their reputation will be quantifiable and people will know they are not representative of the community as a whole

I had said I wasn't gonna post here anymore, but I now have something else to add.

From where I sit, the issue isn't totally about racism on here. The issue seems to be establishing the criteria for acceptable language. You all seem to think that it is ok to call someone a "fucking cocksucking faggot", but if you call that individual a "nigger" then it is a hate crime that must be punished. How do you establish the standards of what is acceptable? This is what the FCC has been debating since Janet Jackson flashed her titty at the Super Bowl.

Personally, I think it is wrong to call someone a nigger on here, but if we continuously try and set limits on what can't be said then we will wonder what is supposed to go next? Do you terminate people that call others "fat", "stupid", and "dumb"?

There's nothing to say that any of my ideas are feasible, so I was hoping that others might get some of their own ideas going as well.

If you have something to contribute, then by all means do so. But don't try to accuse me of pushing my own agenda. The suggestions I listed are things that I think will genuinely help t-dub. If you want to help, then tell us what you think should be done. But if all you're going to do is spew more finger-pointing and flaming, then get the hell out.
