Audi’s RS6 will get more than 571 hp
Quote : | "We recently reported that leaked vehicle chassis codes for the new Audi RS6 specced the output from its twin-turbo V10 engine at 571hp (426kW). Recent information from a source at Audi, however, has put this figure in doubt. The reliable source claims that the 571 hp will only be the specified figure Audi will market the car with. True output will be upwards of 600 hp, with 610 hp (455kW) pegged as the most likely figure. It looks like Audi is taking no chances with the ultimate “wolf in sheep’s clothing” model and even BMW’s excellent V10 motor will struggle to compete with this kind of power output.
To give you an idea of just how high this figure is, the RS6 will churn out more horses than the Corvette Z06, BMW M6, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Aston Martin DBS, Porsche 911 GT2, and even Mercedes’ epic bi-turbo V12 CL65 AMG. " |

MTM R888

Crazy eights! MTM builds an 888-hp Audi R8
888 hp 610 lb-ft 0-60 mph in 3 sec 223 mph > $400,000
Quote : | "MTM, those crazy Germans who built the twin-engine, 740-hp Audi TT Bimoto, brought their own version of the R8 to the Dubai Motor Show. Although visually subtle, a turbocharger system has been added to the 4.2-liter V8 for a total of 888 bhp and 610 lb-ft torque. 0-60 mph can be achieved in 3.0 seconds flat, and top speed is limited to 223 mph. MTM built the car, fittingly named the R888, as a one-off for a European customer, but they will gladly build more of them for a mere €280,000 each. " |

HOT DAMN... you guys remember the rumored to be higher powered "RS8" that caught fire and burnt to a crisp? See http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/02/so-sad-audi-r8-mysteriously-burns/
Well, it was a 580-HP twin-turbo V10
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/27/mysteriously-burnt-audi-revealed-to-be-v10-rs8/
Quote : | "The phrase "580-HP twin-turbo V10" is hot enough to raise the temperature of any sports car enthusiast. And as sad photos of flambeed Audis have attested, without glacial cooling it's also hot enough to turn Audi RS8 test mules into fireworks.
When we first wrote about the burned out Audi R8 in the picture above, we mentioned scuttlebutt saying it was a test mule. Now, Quattro GmbH director Werner Frowein reveals that it was indeed an RS8 test mule, and that the problem was specifically due to the turbos of its V10 powerplant getting too hot in the mid-engined layout. Based on the best translation we can find of the Dutch article, Frowein says (or at least we think he says) that putting the twin-turbo V10 in the R8 is out of the question, and that they are instead working on a normally-aspirated V10 with a little more than 500 HP." |
So the RS8 will come with a 500 hp NA V10, instead of the 580 hp TT V10 found in the RS6
Damn, I bet with a 580 hp engine it would have kicked the asses of cars 2-5 times its price.

While impressive, the Corvette Z06 beats that performance and returns almost 30mpg on the highway.
Thats not to say I don't LOVE the R8, but I'm wondering about this move to their V12 TDI engine. I've heard that engine is heavy as shit, and the R8 isn't exactly a lightweight to start out.

BTW, in China:

according to Winding Road they aim to put it into production, hopefully by mid 2009.
and they recorded mileage up to 29 mpg
and by the time production starts the weight will only be slightly above the standard R8 weight.

its not amazing its a motor well tuned with tons of torque at low rpms dropped in light aerodynamic cars
how is that amazing ??
Chevy just puts enough of an overdrive in thier cars to make it so their 1500rpm v8 sucks in a much air as a 3000rpm 4 banger...
I mean how many rpm does your s2000 turn on the interstate? ? 4/26/2008 10:47:02 AM |

It's amazing when you consider it gets better gas mileage when babied than any econobox without a Honda or Toyota logo on it. Go drive a nissan sentra for a few weeks. Maybe thats poor engineering and this is mediocre ; Irregardless I find it impressive.
To name a few cars that do worse : Rx8, 350z, m3 , s2000, evo , sti, etc.. 30mpg tanks are not common in ANY of these vehicles.
I believe ~4000rpms. 4/26/2008 10:53:13 AM |
