Ruf set to launch Cayman-based CTR3 supercar
$400,000 3.8 litre TT 700 hp 656 lb-ft 224 mph
Quote : | "Get thee to the UAE. Later today, the Porsche tweakers at RUF will introduce the company's new Porsche Cayman tuner, the CT3, at RUF's new plant in the United Arab Emirates state of Bahrain. The CT3 gets its new lightness from aluminum and carbon-fiber body panels, and employs the same powerplant as RUF's 911 RT12 rocketship -- that is a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo flat six producing 700 hp and 656 lb-ft of torque. Word is, the a seven-speed sequential automatic will put power to road. Top speed is projected to be in the fleeting neighborhood of 224 mph. What price madness? Figure €300,000 all told. We'll know more soon, but click through to see the invite VIPs got. – Mike Spinelli " |
haha, UAE and Bahrain are two different countries, Mike nitwit!
it is actually being unveiled in Bahrain.

Here is the GT3 RS's off road cousin:
Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia Revealed
it is a stripped out cayenne s with several mods for long distance rally racing.
read details here:
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/15/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-factory-built-rally-goodness/ http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm/country/gcf/newsID/2070416.003/porsche/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-revealed
Quote : | "The 4.8L V8 makes 385 horsepower and is connected to a six-speed Tiptronic S with a 4.11 final drive ratio. Rally car-specific modifications include:
Reinforced A and B pillars Bolted-in safety cage Stronger underbody protection Installation of a handbrake in lieu of the standard, foot-operated parking brake Rerouted electrical system Passenger-operated navigation computer Lightweight sport exhaust Offroad tires Roof lights Front-mounted winch Stripped interior, with dual spare wheels & tires and two reserve fuel cannisters in place of the rear seat
It should be noted that while the car's passenger compartment has been pared down to the essentials, it isn't exactly spartan, as evidenced by its leather seats, orange fabric door latch pulls, and diamond-plate steel flooring are also fitted, as seen in the attached gallery photo. Outside, the Cayennes are finished in black or silver, and trimmed in a contrasting orange, a la the 911 GT3 RS." |

eBay find of the day: Wrecked Carrera GT from "Redline"
Quote : | "Up for auction on eBay is a Carrera GT the seller claims was damaged while the filming the movie. Now, this isn't the GT that is seen going off a cliff, but instead is a GT once owned by the producer that was used and damaged during filming. Damage is confined to the left front, and the car still runs. It's just not drivable due to a busted front axle. The auctioneers warn that the repairs would cost much more than most new cars. Heck, an oil change on one of those probably cost more than some new cars.
Bidding starts at $100,000 (about $340k less than a new, undamaged GT)" |

So the girl I'm with last night says a guy that frequents her coffee shop shows up in an "ugly porsche with orange and black accents, and tries to brag and get everyone to look at it," and tells me how she would never get a car like that. It took almost all of me from not slapping her after she confirmed it had GT3 RS on the side.

SPY PHOTOS: Porsche’s New GT Coupe
Quote : | "What kind of monster is Porsche developing? We have seen this Porsche Cayenne-based mule before, and every time we ask ourselves: What can it be? A Lamborghini SUV? A Bentley SUV?
We still don’t know for sure, but this prototype is hammering around the “Ring” with a speed that makes even Michael Schumacher jealous. It is actually one of the fastest cars around the Nürburgring, and the noise it makes is so evil, it makes the hair on your neck stand. At first, Porsche only had two of these mules, but now you can get them in almost every color. We have seen it in gold, black, blue, green and red. Also, we now know a little more than before:
First, these mules are rear-wheel-drive only.
Second, they are built as light weight cars with no power windows and central-looking, plastic windows in the rear doors and backwards.
Third, in normal cases the tires of a SUV are as wide in the front as in the back. But on this mule we can clearly see that’s not the case. The rear tires are much wider.
So, is it going to be a Cayenne RS? Is it a project that Porsche is developing for another brand? Or could it be a new front engine sports car from Porsche based on the new Panamera platform? A 2 door coupe aiming at the BMW 6-series, Maserati GranTurismo and Mercedes CL disguised under a Cayenne body just to make sure we won’t notice? Hopefully, we will get an answer to all these questions in a near future, and till then we will keep on speculating and enjoy pictures of airborne Porsches.
The photos are showing one of the test cars airborn at Nürburgring. It is the only car that is so fast in this spot on the ring that it gets all four tires off the ground, and when it accelerates it visibly burns rubber in a big dark cloud trailing behind. Photo 3 is an artist impression of how an upcoming Porsche GT Coupe could look like." |

Quote : | "The bored out, 3.8-liter powerplant buried at the midst of the flares, wings and flashes punches out 385bhp and 330lb/ft of torque, which is more than a match for the base Carrera in a body that weighs less than 3000lbs.
This car would take a 911, almost any 911, to pieces on the right road just because it is the proverbial knife in a corner. Porsche hobbled the original Cayman to keep the natural order and the 911 at the top of the food chain. It’s amazing how little it takes to reverse that process and create a real gem of a car.
It’s a near blueprint perfect sportscar. Mid-engined as they should be, rear drive but held on rails by a raft of downforce, mechanical grip from oversized tyres and natural chassis composure." |

The clearest pics of the Panamera so far. Head and taillights clearly visible, and pay attention to the back door window... makes it look like a coupe.
Quote : | "But the most interesting detail is how Porsche managed to incorporate the rear quarter panel glass shape of the current 911 model into the rear door of the Panamera. As a result, it gives the Panamera a stealthier fastback appearance instead of a more mundane four-door saloon configuration. If you look at the side profile photo long enough you start to forget there's a rear door there." |

Porsche GT3 RSR
http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080213.010/porsche-gt3-rsr-updated
Quote : | "Porsche’s race-thriller, the GT3 RSR has become the most powerful racebred car based on the 911. Thanks to its 3.8-litre boxer engine, GT3 RSR delivers the same 465 bhp (342kW) at 8,000rpm, with maximum torque sitting at 430Nm at 7,250rpm. Screams like a horror movie then, doesn’t it? And so it should!
Changes to the old look include the front end, additional spoilers or “flicks” and new side air outlets that generate more downforce and reduce drag. And here I was thinking “drag” would be the operative word for this Porsche track monster.
It’s always telling when one of the most successful race car manufacturers in history fits sequential gearboxes into their track challenger. Ominous may be the description for road cars as days of the manual/ stick shift look to be coming to an abrupt halt. Why Porsche itself claims the 911 Turbo Tiptronic reaches 100km/h from naught quicker than the manual version.
The price of the GT3 RSR is €349,800 plus VAT." |
